Just back from the vet.

Attie had a full blood CBC, fungal, and toxoplasmosis drawn. He also got a hit on the bronchodiolator too. If we can't figure this out or we don't get a hit on the cause, we'll start steroids and he is off to see a specialist. Vet didn't want to start them today as Attie is a diabetic and we're still not sure what we're dealing with. We know his lungs are filling with fluid, but we don't seem to have a culprit to treat. No fever too boot...?

We're now using clavamox and clinimydicin(sp). We started the clini in the off chance this might be toxoplasmosis as Attie gets a true raw rabbit diet normally. Plus this gives us a wider spectrum of treatment.

Test results should be back on Friday (hopefully) and by Monday (definately). But he didn't want to wait for the results over the weekend.

Oh and they trimmed up all four sets of daggers.

Keeping Attie in our prayers and hoping all is ok with him. Please keep us posted. (((Attie and Beth)))

I've been sick and haven't been on much but did they do an echo to check his heart?

NO the radiologist said it looks like a lung issue. He said he didn't see indications of a heart issue or cancer. Also Attie got pretty stressed out when they did the X-rays and started panting and foaming at the mouth... His gums etc. turned bright pink and showed no blueing. Nor tonight did they show any blue when he got stressed. Vet says that if it were heart related then as bad as he sounds we would have seen some cyanosis.

I hate feeling so helpless for him....he continues to decline and with now two antibiotics... nailbite_smile ...I may call and see about getting to the specialist tomorrow or Saturday ....

Sort of trying to come to terms that we may not make it.... nailbite_smile

((((Beth, Attie))))

We hope that you'll be able to see the specialist and that Attie will rally. Many positive thoughts heading your way tonight.

My dog has severe heart disease and has been fighting CHF for a year a half. She has never had the blue gums or tongue even with fluid in her lungs and her heart is to blame. Did the vet instruct you on measuring resting respiration rates? Maybe things are different in cats. I would ask for a syringe of lasix to have at home in case of a crisis. It will give you time to get to the vets. If the fluid is due to an issue like this and not pneumonia/toxoplasmosis or what ever is suspected. Hugs.

Well he decided to eat a bit on his own again...

I tried doing the humidifier with him in the carrier and he was none to happy about that. Although with a towel over the front of the carrier & humidier and open on the back vents it had a nice draw across him. He tolerated that for about 10 minutes, but it was a lot more humid than the bathroom. I kept checking it wasn't too warm either.

You are a more direct & braver soul than I am, Beth.
I take a "Stealth Approach" to impending loss.
In response to our dreading the agony we know will come, I sneak up on it with
"proactive grieving"...beginning the process before the worst happens.. I ache for the
pain, ailment, or changes/ declining health issues they are experiencing now.
I think we can never fully prepare...but i find it eases the process to cope with
overwhelming emotion in stages. i call it "exorcising the demons before we face the devil"

and I'm not quite sure why i felt the need to share that..perhaps because your journey with Attie-man
has always been such an amazing path...holding you and he very closely in my heart...
and hoping to see you two overcome the odds yet again.

So, Attie-man...

Beth...sorry, I just had to ask about the heart and make sure they checked that out.

Keeping you in our prayers...please, Attie....turn around.
