Yesterday am started well, then into a flat stinkus pinkus bounce. Today started pinkus but has shifted to yellow. :-D
Paws crossed this bounce won't be a hard, long lasting one like the last bounce.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Looking good in yellow today, Zener! Tell your liver that blue is actually a good thing!!

How does Zener feel about the snow?

Cycle 2 of the latest bounce. Sure not the direction we want to be going in.
Today
12/2/11 Zener Alpha Trak
AMPS 373, 14th cycle @s1.25, 1.2oz 8%
+1.5 387, 1.05oz 8%, negative ketones
+2.5 321, 0.7oz 11%
+5 289, 0.6oz 8%
+10 400, 4PP with Zobaline & pepcid, FDCK, ketones negative

Zener got into Tillie's 11% FF chicken florentine shortly before we got his +10 test, so not sure if that could have had an effect on his numbers. He's been feeling pretty frisky this afternoon, but definitely more PU.

@Devon - so far about 6 inches from storm #1 and more on the way tonight and tomorrow. We are very prepared for snow here, so all is good. :-D

@Melissa - we've decided Zener's liver is a drama queen! The kitties don't mind the snow too much, as long as they have paths shoveled! ;-)

@Celi - sure wish we had some BG numbers down! :o What a great pic!

@Linda - it sure seems like feast or famine here - dive to greens and blues, then bounce to the heavens for 6 cycles. Paws are crossed the bounces start to get a little shorter one of these days.

We're about to get his PMPS.

I was wondering where Zener and Liz were this morning! Seems like lots of crazy beans in LL today! Well, the brief yellow was nice, too bad about the spike. Hopefully Zener starts to listen to all his auntie beans soon!!!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365 ATrak

It's always a good thing go back and read stickies and other information over and over again. Each and every time I go back and re-read, I learn something new and often say to myself "good grief, I've been doing what"? ohmygod_smile

Liz and I were looking at Zener's numbers and studying his SS today after the jump to 400 at +10 and noticed an upward trend around the time we discovered pill pockets. Liz has been wondering over and over again what was in them that might be spiking his BG. These little jewels were almost too good to be true. Then, I re-read Dr Lisa's pilling a cat information, and read the pockets are better than dry pilling but the ingredients aren't all that great and are high in carbs - and we've been giving him 4 a day! So, it was too good to be true! Dr Lisa recommends breaking one pill pocket up in 4 or 5 pieces and making a little dough ball with the pill rolled up in it. It was another one of those "good grief, I've been doing what?" moments. :o

Here's the morning summary and the latest.
12/2/11 Zener Alpha Trak
AMPS 373, 14th cycle @s1.25, 1.2oz 8%
+1.5 387, 1.05oz 8%, negative ketones
+2.5 321, 0.7oz 11%
+5 289, 0.6oz 8%
+9 4PP with Zobaline & pepcid, FDCK, ketones negative
+10 400, FDCK@poke
PMPS 365, 15th cycle @s1.25u, 1.05oz 8%

There is always something new to learn (or old to learn again)!

@Jaq - it does seem like it's been a crazy time for beans lately, maybe it's just that time of year! ;-) Zener usually listens to his LL aunties, and now that we won't be loading him up with carb laden pill pockets, perhaps we'll break this bounce.

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365 ATrak

Oh Zener! You are a bouncy boy. I hope the pill pockets are the culprit. I dry pill Tarragon. He isn't fooled by pill pockets and won't have anything to do with it. I do break them up for Turnup when she needs meds though.

How much snow are you getting? Your snow is going to be our rain tomorrow. Sorry I haven't been around much this week but have been thinking about you. Hope your having a great Friday!

We hope so too! Isn't there an old saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably is [too good to be true]"? We would dry pill Zener until we got the pill pockets, and it was pretty stressful - for him and us. It was such a relief to do something that he looked forward to, rather than dreading each evening having to give him a pill. An experiment may be in order on BG post-pill pockets! The good news is - Zener has a very efficient liver! :-D

Well, the first storm was a bit disappointing. The first wave that is through now, dropped 6 inches but 1-2 feet was predicted. The next one is starting tonight and by the time it moves through Sunday another 6 inches to a foot could accumulate. This may be enough to open our ski area up on the mountain and perhaps enough where we live (7000 feet) for some snow shoeing in the national forest! :-D

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365 ATrak

Good grief that is a huge pile of snow! I was just reading about you putting chains on your tires!! :o wow!

I asked about pill pockets last week I was home (Leo gets the chicken ones) and Julia and Bandit told me she did some research on them and they were mostly sugar instead of carbs. She said the good thing about sugar is it's quick to leave the system, whereas carbs aren't. I figure the PP are worth it, much better than me fighting with Leo trying to stuff a pill down his throat.

I hope Zener clears this bounce ASAP! Have a great evening.

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365 ATrak

wow on the snow, and more wow on the 7000 feet location for you. That must be nice! and near mountains?? awesome!

my goodness on the pill pockets... i used to dry pill Mannie - he does ok with them. thought I am sure that pill pockets would be more to his liking. Interesting comment by Tracy.

I hope Zener clears the bounce soon... right Zener? you'll be yellow by nightfall? Right?

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365+1 339 ATrak

I remember reading somewhere on this board that it depends which flavor of PP you use. One was LC and the other wasn't.

Wow on your snow. I try to avoid the stuff at all costs. Glad Liz got the chains figured out in time not to need them anymore. Ready for next time at least!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;+2 254 ATrak

Zener has jumped from the trampoline to the express train!

PMPS 365, 15th cycle @s1.25u, 1.05oz 8%
+1 339, 1.0oz 10%
+2.5 254, 0.6oz 11%

We've added a bit more carbs since he's had over 100 point drop since PMPS. He seems to be feeling pretty good this evening, though he is not having a picnic tonight on his back porch because it's cold and snowy!

@Tracy - thanks for this! We read somewhere here that the non-allergenic duck pill pockets were the best for diabetic cats, so that's what we've been using. We agree it's much better than using the pill gun, less traumatic on Zener and beans! We're thinking we should try smaller bits of the pill pocket pieces rather than 4 whole ones. We'll see, time for another experiment! ;-) We're very accustomed to the snow, so don't worry!

@Michelle - Zener has followed your excellent suggestion and is now yellow, nearing blue. We are near mountains, the tallest ones in Arizona, called the San Franciso Peaks - an old exploded volcano much like Mt St Helens, altitude over 12,000 feet. That is where the ski area is. We live about 90 minutes from the south rim of Grand Canyon. We love it here!

@Jaq - Liz is a whiz at the chaining up of the tires! We live in a very arid climate with lots of potential for forest fires in the summer, so when we get a little tired of the snow we re-focus to appreciate how it helps us have less severe fire season!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;+2 254 ATrak

Just popping in to say "hi". Good catch on the drop and you do so well knowing WHAT to do with it!!! Masters!!!!

Hope he clears this and gives you a lovely surf!!!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;+2 254 ATrak

Gosh thanks Marje! We feel more like the masters of disasters.

About to get a +3, we'll see if board shorts are coming out!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;+2 254 ATrak

we're using the duck and pea pill pockets because people on here said they were ok for diabetics. think i need to go look them up!

wow on zener's stinkus pinkus! and a *snicker* on celi's poster! made me chuckle! all right, enough drama zener! get to work and pull those numbers down!

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;~2 254;~3 213 ATrak

Still going down and into blue (on the AT meter)! :-D
PMPS 365, 15th cycle @s1.25u, 1.05oz 8%
+1 339, 1.0oz 10%
+2.5 254, 0.6oz 11%
+3.5 213, 0.9oz 10%

@Julie - those are the ones we've been using with Zener too. Perhaps in small amounts, they aren't so bad, but we were reading on Dr Lisa's page that breaking one pocket into smaller pieces and wrapping them around the pill, like a little dough ball, was better than giving several whole pill pockets. We've been giving him 4 to 5 every day for several weeks. Looks like we have more research to do!

Zener is following everyone's directions and working to bring those numbers down - pink, yellow, blue - in cycle 3 of this bounce.

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;~2 254;~3 213 ATrak

punkin's getting 2 pill pockets/day now - i asked the vet today if the chinese herbs could be raising his BG - but maybe it's the pill pockets with the herbs. idk, we've used them before. hard to know because BG changes all the time anyway.

Re: 12/2 Zener PMPS 365;+1 339;~2 254;~3 213 ATrak

@Julie - gosh, isn't that the truth? So many factors, it's hard to identify what might cause what! We are definitely going to cut back on the number of pill pockets but it is so much easier to get him to take his pills with these. It becomes treat time and not trauma time! Not sure what would be worse, a bit of sugar or stress.

Oh my goodness, we are liking this cycle - pink to yellow to blue! :-D

PMPS 365, 15th cycle @s1.25u, 1.05oz 8%
+1 339, 1.0oz 10%
+2.5 254, 0.6oz 11%
+3.5 213, 0.9oz 10%
+5 187, 0.5oz 7%

Looks more like a slow blue slide now, so will be heading to bed soon. Ni Ni LL! I-)
