I am trying a better feeding schedule. Sienne wrote the other day
For many cats, it's best to not feed after nadir since that's when the effect of the insulin is beginning to wane. Feeding during that time may cause numbers to rise since there's less insulin available to offest the effect of food.

His nadir seems to be close to +6 which is 5pm and 5am. If I should not feed after nadir how soon before nadir and after nadir should I wait to feed him next? Honestly my civies can go all day without eating but not Mikey. He looks for food constantly.

You can feed Mikey until +6 or so -- you don't have to be rigid about it. You should definitely not feed 2 hour prior to shot time, though.

Mikey is probably hungry a lot of the time because he's not yet well regulated. Once he starts spending more time in the blues, his appetite should slow down -- unless he was a hoover before he became a diabetic.

He has lost some of his appetite since I got him and drinks A LOT LESS. So that's good. It's a combination or when he eats vs when my civies eat. I'm trying to feed them the same time I feed Mikey so he doesn't get "hungry" just because he hears/smells them eating. I don't feed him 2 hours prior to shot time. Someone mentioned that a while back. I tried to feed him +1/+2/+3/+4 today and just gave him a small piece of a wellness treat with his +6 test. I know I have read that when you test to reward him if it's close to shot time I give him catnip.

Since the past 2 weeks we have been in and out I have kept him with the timer food every 2-3 hours because I was fearful he would get too hungry. Once the new year is here I will be able to be back on a better routine with him, no long days/nights out. Luckily, I am able to make sure I am here for his shot. It's hard that it's at 11pm but at least I know I can be home. Around here if you miss a train or get stuck in traffic it can be hours to get where you need to be.
