Happy New Year everyone in LantusLand!!! I seriously did NOT think Champ and I would still be here after all this time. I thought if I did everything right and put all my time and effort, and a crapload of test strips, into this, I would have Champ in remission in no time...yeah, right!!! What's the saying about the best laid plans? Unfortunately, Champ isn't one of the lucky one's who, with a change of diet and a little bit of time, goes into remission. Because I was neglecting my work (and jeopardizing my income in the process), and neglecting myself, I decided to back off a bit. I've learned to feel very good about blues and low yellows with the once-a-day pink that Champ seems to think is necessary. Champ seems pretty healthy and extremely happy with it all. I still test him four to six times a day, but that's a huge decrease because I was a diehard testaholic!!! I actually get to spend more time with him, poke free time, than I did before. I concentrate on work during working hours and that leaves me with free time in the evenings to sit on the couch with Champ, letting him know every bit of him is important, not just his ears!!! Actually, the raw diet I started him on a few months ago seems to have made the biggest improvement in him. He's more active and playful with the added bonus that he never turns his nose up at what I serve him because he loves it so much!! I plan on taking him to the vet for a check up in a couple of weeks, get some blood work and get him started on the Adequan.

I'm extremely thankful for all of you here at FDMB. Deep down to the bone, I honestly believe I would not have been able to do this without all of the guidance, support, and friendship I've found here. You've all kept me sane. I hope to start posting a condo for Champ on a more consistent basis again. I've missed you all so much!!! My wish for you all is that you have a healthy, happy, prosperous year!!!

Patty, your post is beautiful and very heartfelt. I too, thought Simon would be one of the kitties that would go into remission after a few months. Boy, did he ever have a change in plans for me. But I agree with you, I have had to change my mindset and just go with the flow and not get so hung up on the numbers every day. As long as our boys are happy and feel good, that is what matters. This whole diabetes thing has made us put our patience pants on which is not such a bad thing.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

What a great attitude you have developed! I especially like the part about every bit of him being important :-D May the new year bring all the best to you and yours.

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

Patty, it's always good to see your condo, and I appreciate all the support you've given me and Maggie. It all makes a lot of sense what you're saying about Champ and how you're now testing him and keeping him happy and enjoy the time and quality of life with him. I feel the same way with Maggie in that I don't think she'll return to the Falls a second time. I wish you and Champ a Happy New Year today and hope this year will bring you good things. Have a wonderful day.

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

Patty, it's good to see a Champ condo to start out the new year. What a pretty blue he had to start the New Year.

We all think that our kits can't end up being long term insulin dependent. but the fact is there and we do have to accept it. i know what you mean about enjoying things as they are. The care we give them does make a difference and the bond between us grows ever closer. I seems like sacrilege to give up hope of OTJ, but it is a fact of life. And it can be a good life too! :-D

Best wishes for you and Champ for the coming year.

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

such wisdom for a new year . . . you know, after a while giving insulin and catching a mid-cycle test just doesn't seem like much of a big deal, does it? i have no idea if punkin will eventually go off or not, but after a year, while i hope he does, if he doesn't, it's sure no big deal. i might like having the extra $$ though!

so glad to see you and champ and hear such a great report on him. Bev posted yesterday and said she's going to start posting daily for Gus again too. i miss you guys!

thanks for checking in on my punkin! :YMHUG:

It's so good to see a Champ condo and to hear how well he's doing!! I completely understand how you can hope to see remission only to be buying more strips and insulin! FD does teach us patience among it's many lessons.

Thank you for your very kind words in Gabby's condo. And I'm very happy that Champ is a raw food junkie!!

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

Awww what a great Champer condo, so nice to hear he's doing well and his momma has been spending lots of quality time with him.

I hear ya on our kitties being OnTJ for forever. My parents and i had a conversation about it just yesterday, i said to them that there is a really good chance Leo will forever need insulin, and to my surprise they didn't care! If that's what he needs then that is what we will do for him.

I hope 2012 brings you and Champ the best of everything!!

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

Hi guys .. what a nice update on Champ .. I'm so glad you've found quality time to spend with him, and not just poking time .. I'm sure he's happy about that as well! Sounds like all is well in your household and I hope it lasts throughout the new year!

Happy New Year Patty, Champ, and Danielle!!!

What a great WCR and a tribute to "it is what it is". I read a quote lately..."if you can't fix it, you just gotta stand it".  Major kudos to you for looking at the big picture.

So happy to hear that Champ is doing so awesome!

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

What a great condo today! I too have come to that realization and have become more calm and at peace with all of it. Tarragon, with his other issues, will most likely never be OTJ but he is happy and that's all I focus on now.

Too bad Danielle had to miss her party but bonus for you! I am thankful every time Mason is here because I know he has his own life and won't always have that opportunity.

Yay!!! Can't wait to see you! Send me a message when you get a chance.

Have a wonderful 2012!!

Re: 1/1 Champ AMPS 198, +3 256

What a BEAUTIFUL post, Patty...

and it opens an opportunity for me to speak the words I don't think I have actually EVER shared here...
I was somewhat the opposite of most...I never actually believed Binks would go OTJ.
I began to hope for it...but truly felt that it was due to LL and FDMB...
I still feel like Binks (who was actually horribly ill when we stumbled onto this site)...
beat the odds and won the FD lottery.

And you spoke the profound truth...healthy and happy is the true gift!

Happy New Year!!

Yay - a Champ Condo...and a beautiful one at that!!! Yep, we know exactly how you felt at the beginning of this dance. Heck, even my vet thought Trix was headed for the "R" word - and said she's never seen a cat go in that direction so quickly. Yet, here we still are! I know I've learned a LOT from all of this...I just wish Trix didn't have to be diabetic for me to wake up to the world around me. But, if she wasn't diabetic, we wouldn't have the honor of knowing you and the rest of LantusLand...we're all here for a reason - we belong together.

Happy New Year to you ...we're thrilled to have you has part of our lives!

it's like Monk says in his tv show - it's a blessing and a curse. but often the best things are some of both.

before you completely give up hope, however, let me point out that mr tinkles went OTJ recently after 21 months on insulin. these things happen. :YMHUG:
