Due to being exhausted, I overslept this morning. Spock's readings today are looking really normal. He's been on 1 drop for 64 cycles and has had variable readings. I tried an OTJ trial when he was on .1u but his numbers went up, so I started him on 1 drop. Before Jesse went OTJ the 1st time the insulin was making his numbers go up - I'm wondering if that's what's going on with Spock. I started him on 2.5mg Prozac for his feistiness on Jan 3rd - not sure if that has an effect.

Does anyone disagree that an OTJ trial is in order?

Thanks for the input

Re: 1/15 Spock +17/111, +22/98-otj trial?

his numbers look a little high for OTJ. Usually we try to get them under 120 all the time before removing insulin. Can you get some mid cycle tests on a few cycles to see what is going on?

Hi Carolyn

It sounds like Spock is doing very well. Hoping the prozac helps him.

Just some info to pass your way. Prozac can increase glucose numbers in people. However, not sure about kitties.

When Curry was dealing w/intercat aggression issues w/her civvie last year, the vet behaviorist didn't want to put Curry on any medication due to her diabetes. As it turned out, Curry was able to reintegrate into the household after 4 long months without meds. But she was dealing with a different issue than Spock. So it sounds like he is needing a little help w/medication.

I'm wondering then if prozac can impact a cat's glucose as well. If it can, you may want to consider holding off on the OTJ trial until the prozac gets into Spock's system a little more and you can see if its impacting the glucose. I think it can take up to 6 weeks or so for prozac to have a full effect in beans...not sure about kitties.

You may ask your vet about this and also wait to hear from more experienced folks here.

On the other hand, you could just give it a whirl and see what happens.

Good luck with Spock's behavioral issues and the OTJ trial.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll hold him at 1 drop for now.
Mid-cycle daytime tests are not possible because of work. But, hey, once I get moved I can actually go home at lunch :-D (takes 4 minutes)
