Hi everyone,

Sid (and I) had a very rough night last night. He did not want to eat so I had to feed him through his feeding tube so I luckily didn't have trouble getting food into him. I also gave him some famotidine (pepcid) because he kept licking his lips and his stomach made a lot of gurgling noises. I did not have any cerenia or ondensetran. Throughout the night he just laid in a box and didn't really move, staring off into space. So of course I think we're at the end. Around 11 pm I gave him some buprenex and laid him on a heat pad. In addition, his bg is dropping like crazy. he dropped about 300 points at +3. So when he dropped from 105 to 46 in 1 hour, I gave him some karo syrup in his mouth and 30 mls of food in his feeding tube. That brought his level back up. When I went to bed, he was around 80.

Of course I never know what I'm going to find when I wake up, but this morning Sid was the perkiest I've seen him in awhile. He ate 1/2 can of food all on his own! Of course he was feeling so energetic that I'm pretty sure he got a fur shot because he jumped away from me. I dropped him off at the vet for monitoring and he was HI at every check so at noon they gave him a unit of R. That brought him down. Tonight it looks like we are headed in the same direction as last night based on how he is acting... We're hanging in there. While at the vet, they changed the bandage on his feeding tube and gave him a heart

Sid you have been keeping us all hanging on by our toenails but I think it's time to give Lydia a break now and get better once and for all, okay?

(((((Lydia))))) and (((((Sid))))). What a cute heart! Hope he continues to improve. Thinking of you and sending healing energy.

Hi Lydia & Sid,
Sid, we're glad you had a better day today and hope that the better day will lead into a better night tonight. Lydia, he's a brave kitty and you are a wonderful mamabean. I hope that his numbers will settle down this evening and that both of you will have a restful night.
That's a wonderful heart!

Lots of hugs, and lots more healing vines on the way this evening. Thanks for the update. We are thinking of you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Thanks for the update. I'm glad he had some better and perkier times today.
I'm continuing to send the strongest of get better and feel better vines to Sid. (((Hugs to you, Lydia))

Glad he perked up - he's telling you he's not ready. Keep up with the pepcid - one hour before feedings. The bupe for sure. The cerenia is a must if Sid is still vomiting. It won't help general nausea, adding ondansetron to this will probably help him feel better over all along with everything. You will find some cats may not be able to handle a full feeding at a certain time. You get to know your cat. So if he vomits up the evening feeding start with ten mls, then go back ten minutes later and try another ten mls. He may be only able to take 10 or 20 mls at a certain feeding. Doing Pepcid twice a day may help. Remember with Cerenia you need to have a break at the five day mark as it builds up in their system.

Keep it up Sid.

How is his breathing? I was told if Maverick's breathing was around the 40 bpm mark while resting to bring him in. Maverick had asthma and the surgeries were so hard on him, we almost lost him twice. I could hear his breathing from across the room. If you need an emotional boost on FAF under links - you will find a folder called success stories. No diabetic cats yet, but they gave my heart a much needed lift when my spirits were down. It is emotional - especially the first week.

Sending more hugs.

I LOVE Sid's heart...
and his heart bandage too!

I hope this makes you smile...
I'm working a temp job at a mental health facility this evening (where the administrator said "you are a perfect fit for our culture" :? )
and when they asked if I wanted to take a break, i told them I wanted to check on a friend and her kitty online...
and they didn't bat an eyelash- said "Well, of course!" and let me fire up my laptop to check on Sid!
Maybe that confirms the "crazy cat lady" stereotype...but it works for me. :-D

so happy to hear he's rallying, and sending all forces we can muster for his continued improvement.

Love ya, Sidster!

Awww thank you everyone. The vines and good thoughts are keeping us going. Sid sends you all a cyber head butt and some purrs. Celi, you made us smile.

Thank you Karrie for the advice too. Sid ate pretty well today on his own and I did not use the tube at all for feedings, just medicine. He ate 1.5 cans - the most he's eaten in awhile. He has *so far* not vomited at all. tonight the nausea seems better - no licking of the lips or gurgly burby noises. However his glucose is Hi again - maybe I gave another fur shot? I'm not sure what is going on. I was positive I got it in tonight too but maybe I didn't. Now I will be worried all night about the high level.
The specialist called me at 9pm and I missed the call!! He has the results and will call tomorrow. So I will be able to provide an update. At least tomorrow we can get started on the treatment.

Thinking of you and Sid! I hope you both get some much needed rest tonight. Healing vines coming your way for your sweet boy. ((((HUGS))))

Thanks for posting a pic of Sid with his heart bandage. You are taking such good, loving care of him, Lydia. Try to get some rest tonight. Hugs to you and Sid.

Thanks for stopping by my condo today to say hi, Sid. I know you don't feel good. Believe me, I do know exactly how you feel. I hated being sick. But that tube thing helps a lot, it helps our Mama Beans help us eat until we can eat on our own good, and then we feel better. You look so handsome in your heart! I am sending healing vines and snowflakes to you from my heart. Love, Tawny

Lydia....you are just amazing....Sid is so lucky to have you. I'm thrilled to hear he perked up today and I hope each day will get better for him. It's very promising that he ate on his own. Maybe he is just pooped by bedtime but each day he'll get stronger.

Sending prayers and healing vines.

oh i'm so glad to see a Sid condo - i'd looked earlier and not seen you. great news on the little guy eating tonight!! i hope he just keeps on getting better.

hugs to both of you! :YMHUG:
