I wish I had a better report. Things seemed to have improved for Sid, but I just got back from visiting Sid in the hospital. He is worse than I've ever seen him. Despite the fact that his blood ph is such that he shouldn't have ketones, he still does have a moderate amount and the doctor said that is not good. He is also not responding to the insulin as well as he should in the hospital and is still running from low bg to Hi bg. The only hope is that he will start responding to the increased chlorambucil and prednisolone. But judging from the way he looked tonight, I think that will take a miracle.

I've been absent for a while but been keeping Sid in my prayers daily....i wished i could offer advise but all i have to offer are my prayers.....

Are they feeding him when they give him the pred? from giving it to Rocket now for a year i know it has to be given with food otherwise he declines oh so quickly.....any form of steroid med taken by human or four-legged does make you feel like crap in case you didn't know....so perhaps he seems weak due to not having a good cushion in his tummy when the pred is given....just a thought....

praying for Sid and for you

((( Lydia )))

I hope Sid is feeling better today. Cats are tough, resilient creatures and Sid has us all in his court.
Sending cyber hugs and prayers.

Lydia - someone sent me an email from the FAF site tonight to recommend that you check for cushings. She said that her angel fuzzy had diabetes the last 5 of his 20 years. She said it took the vets over a week to find the problem but they weren't able to figure it out in time. I don't know the signs of cushings in cats, but the dog heart forum suggested I do this for Nike to rule out addisons - the opposite of cushings. Might be worth asking your vet about or maybe someone here knows more.

Marvista says this of cushings:

he classical screening test findings seen in the dog are not typically seen in the cat. Most cats with Cushing's disease do not have a stress leukogram as described above. They do not have elevations in cholesterol or liver enzymes and their thyroid levels tend to run in the normal range. Most cats with Cushing's disease are diabetic and have findings referable to that. Classically the cat with Cushing's disease has especially intractable diabetes mellitus and diabetic control seems to require very high insulin doses if it can be controlled at all.

And that addisons is very rare in cats.
