Well it has been quite an eventful day. Sam's other bean (my hubby, diabetic 40 yrs) decided to go down big time. Heading to our convention he pulls over & says he's not feeling right so better check. He had that gray look so I'm thinking uh-oh. Sure enough his bg is 49...way too low for a bean. He takes two glucose tabs & I drive. I know him well & could see he was really starting to drop so I kept trying to get him to take more. Well, he was already past the thinking stage and wouldn't. Said he was ok, but I knew different. Anyhoo, just went downhill from there. He doesn't remember anything after that till about an hour later when his brain started functioning just a bit. We got to the convention parking lot & I re-checked. 29!! He was beyond allowing me to give him anything, had no idea what was going on. Our daughter came out and tried. No go. Soooo....called 911. It was only after 3 paramedics worked on him and stuck an IV in him that he started asking questions. What's going on? Where am I? That's the short version. Pretty stressful as he was seriously out of it, slurring, conking out, all that. When he "thought" he was finally thinking ok he asked what had happened. By the end of the afternoon I think I had told him all the details at least 5 or 6 times. He's back among the living and I have a serious headache. However, our friends were there to support and boy did they! We have the best friends ever!! Gonna have a stiff drink tonight!

On a good note, I get the award for "best deal finder" today!!! I had been thinking about an auto feeder & was looking at the catmate 50 (I think that's what it's called). But $65 on Amazon was making me really think twice. So last night for some reason I thought, hey why not check Craig's list. Hadn't even thought of looking before. Low and behold, only one was listed and it was exactly what I was looking for! Here's the best part...only $15 and it's like brand new!! I am so excited and so thankful I thought of looking. I deserve another drink for that, don't you think?! ...no worries, I'm not an alchi, just havin a very crazy day! @-) Hope all of you had a much more peaceful and normal day. Thanks for letting me spill!

As for Sammie, do you think he's just trying to fill his shed? Can't figure any other reason he's gone higher into the blues.

OMG, Donna, Your DH is really lucky that he was with you when he had his hypo! How scary! I hope that all is fine now and that you and he will have a restful evening.

Great news on the automat! We have the CatMate C-20 (the 2-compartment one) and just love it. Rusty eats all of his meals out of it (when it's not in use as an automat, we use it with the lids open as a "table"; so he is really used to eating out of it and always finds his food when we have to be out).

Hope you lost your headache now that DH is "with" us again!

oh my gosh, talk about horrible. wow. what a good thing that you were with your husband to be able to help him. it's a good example of how difficult diabetes is to manage even when you're talking about a person who is able to think and analyze what they are feeling.

good job taking care of him, donna. i'm glad this day had a happy ending!

and wahoo on the great find! that's a super deal!

Yeah, I'm so glad he is better too! I forgot to mention that the parameds got him to 115 before they left. We had to go straight home. In that short period of time (less than an hr, he had already dropped again 30 pts by the time we got home!!) That is when I really got stressed. I could see him starting to lose his brains again and this time I didn't have my friends around. Makes you really appreciate such great friends!! Fortunately he was still aware enough to help me, help him, through it. Of course now he is battling the highs. Poor guy. Still don't know what caused it. He is very good about taking care of himself, but after 40 yrs anything can happen. Unfortunately he has brittle diabetes, which means he can go all over the place sometimes w/o a real reason. Terrible, terrible disease for both beans and furry friends! Thanks for your support!

(((Donna)))....I'm so sorry for your day and I'm glad your DH is ok. You must have been scared out of your mind but sounds like you were calm and did what you needed to. I hope he feels much better tomorrow.

I looked at Sam's SS. NDW usually only lasts about 24 hours but I have found that sometimes it takes several cycles for a kitty to "settle in" to a dosecrease. I think he still looks great so I'd just give him a little more time for the PSs to come down.
