Meh....maybe I spoke too soon last night. Patience Pants are engaged.

I will never forget the night I had a blackout for 3 hours with Vyktor in low numbers and needing testing every half hour - I can not imagine trying to do that with five other cats sticking their noses in!!

P.S. I have been feeling sad for you today - I can't imagine not being able to eat cashews...

Yikes...testing that often without power can't be fun. We lost power for 23 hours last October (freak blizzard); now, any time it even flickers, I start shaking. Overall, the herd did pretty well yesterday morning, all things considered. I know others here have lost it for much longer than that, so I consider myself "lucky!"

I've gotten used to the cashew thing, although it does get tricky sometimes. I've got some fabulous vegan ice cream recipes that I can't make, because they all use cashew butter. I'm just suspicious of the allergy; it's not confirmed. I get mouth ulcers, and cashews seem to make them about a million times worse...

Many thoughts and prayers going out to Tena, Sweet Angel Curry, and Syd this morning...

Amy

Well those aren't Trix numbers but they still look pretty darn good to me, cmon down from up there Trixie!!!

It must be a vegan/vegetarian thing you girls are talking about, you're allergic to cashews Amy?

Yep...sort of. Serryn had given me a salad recipe (one that anyone could eat ;-) ), but it called for cashews. I swapped almonds for the cashews, because I suspect cashews seriously exacerbate my mouth ulcer problems. I'm not quite sure if I'd call that an actual "allergy", but it's painful enough for me to avoid cashews like the plague. The thing about mouth ulcers is no one knows what causes them, no one knows a cure or a treatment, so us victims are left flailing about, trying all sorts of remedies and eliminations by trial and error. My problem really went crazy when I started making vegan ice cream that used cashew butter for the base...

Nice blues there Trixie! Glad your patience pants are cinched up.

Yes on the nut thing. I am deathly allergic to peanuts and all nuts, with even the smell sending me into anaphylactic shock. It's a bummer but you definitely get used to it. You really have to read the labels very carefully though, because a lot of manufacturers used particles.

Have a great day Amy!

Re: 4/10 Trixie AMPS 147 +2 144

Hi Amy, if Trix remains flat all day, that can be a good thing and some action ahead. Are you a vegan? I have a vegan friend, and it's interesting hearing what she eats. I saw on one of the TV programs that Bruce Springsteen at one of his concerts enticed his Mom up on the stage, and they were dancing together to his music, so sweet. Did you happen to see - it was a recent concert after yours. Have a nice day.

Re: 4/10 Trixie AMPS 147 +2 144

Oh I didn't know you were a vegan, perhaps there is something else you can use in place of cashew butter? It's frustrating when you have allergies.
Trixie let's see a bit of action today, show us some greens!

Hi guys .. I agree with tracy, while they aren't trixie numbers, they are still very nice! Bummer on the mouth problems when eating cashews .. I can eat a whole jar without realizing it  have a great day guys!

Re: 4/10 Trixie AMPS 147 +2 144

Oh Amy I can't believe we even have mouth ulcers in common. What a thing to have to have that in common. I could never find an answer to my mouth ulcers. I ask my Drs. if its the meds I'm on, but they don't know. But also, the cashew butter, I found out just these last two years it makes my rosacea bad, by accident. And of course being vegetarian makes it even harder to find things to give us protein. I also can't drink milk without getting a horrid headache. I went on an elimination diet two years ago to fix a bladder issue, the alternative way, and I did, but also it showed me things I was allergic/sensitive to… and the new things I cut out of my diet cured or put my rosacea in a remission.

Hey, Trixie, don't think I'm distracted about this diet issue, and I don't see your numbers, I'm watching you Trixie, so bring those numbers down OK?

Patience, patience, patience!

Ann - Bruce danced on stage with his mom at the show we were at....link below! In the very beginning, where he does the knee slide, you can see me being a goofball, throwing my hands up in the iar. It is VERY sweet to watch him with his mom. I've seen him pull her up on stage at more than one show.

Bruce dancing with his Mom

Iorwen - Yep, DH and I are vegan. I've learned to live without cashew butter. I don't think anything else would work well in the vegan ice cream recipes I've got, but that's OK...there are some really good vegan ice creams on the market now that I don't have to make  !

Barb - I'm sorry you're a fellow sufferer. My ulcers were in remission for many years, but came back with a vengeance in 2003. I've tried eliminating all sorts of things, and the best I've managed so far is figuring out a few things that make them worse, but nothing that will completely eliminate them. My Dad and brother suffer as well...although after MANY years of ulcers, my Dad stopped getting them after he retired!!! I'm sure stress is a huge factor for me, but there's not much more I can do about that. Docs are pretty much useless when it comes to mouth ulcers. I even use special toothpaste...it's really mild, so it makes brushing my teeth easier during a flare, but didn't eliminate them as I hoped it would. Maybe someday I'll find the answer...

Amy, thanks for the video! :-D That was so sweet of Bruce Springsteen; she is quite a dancer, and I thought I heard him say she was almost 90 years young! She looks great; amazing!

I like Trixie's +4, nice low blue!

Amy I do know that when I was on my low/no acid diet for IC (interstitial Cystitis), my ulcers were much better and I also have gum problems and they pretty much disappeared when I was strictly on the diet. I have added many food back now, and the ulcers and gum problems came back again. I can help you with that diet, but you may decide you rather have the ulcers then be on the diet. It was very hard and I was on it for a year and a half, after I did the elimination diet. Giving up my coffee was the worst. I now drink it, but add this powder to take the acid out. There is also something on the market called PreLief and there is a study that is being done right now with it for its use as a mouth sore treatment. I can go into it more when or if you want, I did a ton of research on this.

Hi guys,
Trixie, nice cycle today! Amy, sorry about the cashews. I thought cashews were beans, not nuts. Can you eat pecans? You might try your ice cream recipe with pecan butter (hey, that's "butter pecan ice cream"!!). Maybe hazelnut butter. Lots of central European recipes use hazelnut creme fillings in cookies and cakes and I have eaten hazelnut gelatto in Italy.
I'm getting hungry. We only had grapes for dessert.

Enjoy the evening,

Ella & Rusty

...and the "meh" continues.

I'm pretty sure you're right, Ella...cashews are a "legume" and not a nut. For whatever reason, they seem to make my ulcer problem worse - but are obviously not the only trigger.

I've tried various levels of an "elimination diet"...even without going in too deep with the process, it was no fun. I like food way too much...

Have you ever tried this stuff for mouth ulcers?

"Ligustrum Vulgare is a remedy that facilitates drainage. Together with its complementary remedy, Juglans Regia, it is effective in cases of chronic inflammation, collagenosis, hepatic ailments, and dermatosis. This remedy is indicated for conditions such as general healing, chronic intestinal problems, ulcerations, intestinal and uterine bleeding, tonsillitis, bronchitis, mouth ulcers, bed sores, vaginal discharges and colitis."

Celi: that picture is kind of creepy.

Serryn: when you wrote "blackout" I kept thinking you were passed out and I was trying to figure out how you were testing Vyktor. Then a light bulb came on...

And Trixie, come down from there!
Liz

Gee this sounds like The =Doctors! All you veggies out there, it great that you do it, I did for a while, but my cravings got the best of me nailbite_smile
