Yesterday's condo

Atlas has stopped eating and drinking. I syringed him 9cc's of A/D and 6cc's of tuna water at +9. He is still sneezing blood this morning, is very grumpy about being handled at all. I have isolated him in the bedroom from the other cats.

He seems actually worse this morning...

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394

Wow...he seems to be slipping into decline this morning...

I sure hope we get some test results today...

Not having a good feeling about this, he is very lethargic this morning. Grumpy enough to complain about what I am doing for him...to weak to take a swipe/bite at me.

This is happening pretty fast... nailbite_smile

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394

((((Beth)))) All my best wishes for Atlas and you, and for the vet to come up with an answer.

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394

Oh beth .. I had no idea atlas was so sick .. (((Hugs))) I'm glad there was no indication of cancer, but the wonder of what else it could be must be making you so worried .. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers ..

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, heading back to vet

We're headed back to vet for a 3pm appt.

He is not keeping his food down... :?

The coagulation panal was normal...

We're still waiting on results from the nasal swabs.

So, Attie is being loaded up with me as I have several pet sit stops to make on our way...

I need to clone myself...

Beth, we are thinking very positively and hoping that this is not a serious issue. Sending lots and lots of healing vines to Attie.

Hugs,

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, heading back to vet

hope to hear good news from the vet soon. How very worrying. Poor Attie! I'm sure they'll find something and nothing... something that's causing it, that's really a nothing and is easy to fix.

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, heading back to vet

Beth I hope everything is okay and he beats what ever is hitting him. Sending you and Attie big hugs. Hang in there Attie.

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, heading back to vet

Atlas has acute pancreatitis and a heart arythmia.

He was given fluids, pain shot, and naseau shot. He is to get no solid food or fatty foods. He can have chicken broth or tuna water for now, if he wants it. No force feeding etc.

He is getting a potassium suppliment for the heart.

We still do not know what caused or is causing the nose bleeds, those results should be in tommorow.

We return to the vet tommorow for follow-up more sub-Q's, pain meds, and naseau....

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, vet update

Oh, Beth, so sorry to hear that diagnosis. I hope that all the meds will help and that Attie will be feeling better soon. It looks like you caught it early.

Sending lots of healing vines Attie's way, and strength vines to you.

Hugs,
Ella & Rusty

Re: 4/11 Atlas AMPS 394, vet update

Sending prayers for your special boy, Atlas, and just wanted to let you know that Mishka had an Acute pancreatitis also and did pull through. Pain meds were a big help. Poor baby....through so much and now this. Thinking of you both and sending many, many prayers.

Thank you everyone for visiting our condo and the get well wishes...

It means so much to us to here from all of you.

Thank you Hope for your example of success. Our paws are crossed and Dr. Nappier feels we can get Atlas through this too. It will just take some time, patience, and attention.

Beth --

What's the vet's rationale for no solid food? If I'm remembering, this is "old school" thinking with regard to treating pancreatitis. Ditto on the fatty food issue. The latter is more the case with dogs, than cats. I think there's a risk with respect to hepatic lipidosis if you're not feeding.

I'm attaching a clinical roundtable discussion on pancreatitis from experts in the field. It does have a section on diet (see p. 11) that you and your vet may be interested in. They pretty clearly state that withholding food is no longer recommended since HL is a complication of p'titis. I'm also linking a post from Jojo on managing pancreatitis.

I'm concerned about the food instruction. FHL can hit in a few days. Holding back food is outdated information for pancreatitis. The people on FDMB are very knowledgeable on pancreatitis and there is a great yahoo board if you are up to joining it.

Sending hugs for you and Attie.

Oh Beth! So sorry Attie is sick. Tarragon had acute pancreatitis last Sept. He was fine went I left for work and was unconscious when I got home 9 hours later. It happens sooo fast. He was in the hospital for 3 days and ended up with DKA as well. I definitely know how you feel but Tarragon is proof that they can come through just fine. He hasn't had any more issues with it since. Hugs to you my friend. Hang in there! ((((Beth)))). Healing vines for Attie and his tummy.

Sending Attie healing vines. Did they give you vupe to take home and administer for pain and also fluids? A one time dose of pain meds and fluids is not enough.

I'm with Sienne and Karrie...that is very old school to " rest" the pancreas by not feeding. Hopefully you can get some ondansetron for nausea and hell feel like eating.

Bless his heart! I've had pancreatitis and it was no fun at all. I hope he gets his appetite back soon. I'm continuing to send him my strongest get-better thoughts. :YMHUG:

I'm so very sorry, Beth, that Atlas is ill. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and sending feel-better vines to Atlas. :YMHUG:

glad to hear a diagnosis - sending you and attie many "be strong, fight, be well" wishes - and hugs too. it's hard having your little one be sick.

I don't know if people saw the info on Facebood page. I believe Venita posted on Beth's behalf:

Atlas has been DX with Feline Distemper. It is likely he contracted it from a foster cat that was in Beth's house a couple weeks ago that died from unknown causes. That foster cat also had nosebleeds. We just found out that Atlas never received his Distemper booster.

Atlas will be at his local vet's office, on Tamiflu and IV fluids and other supportive care, daily for as long as it takes. Atlas has a 50/50 chance of surviving the Feline Distemper. The vet said we should know within a couple of days which way Atlas is going to go. The vet's internal medicine consultant has not seen Feline Distemper in an adult cat in her 20+ years of practice.

Beth's other cats are adequately vaccinated, so contagion is not considered problematic in her home.

I am so very sorry for Beth and Atlas. Their story has been such a Cinderella story. Atlas landed so softly, and Beth absolutely adores him. Please pray for Atlas; send good thoughts. Please donate to his chip-in if you can. http://fdmb-cin.blogspot.com/2010/09/atlas-in-berea-ohio.html. If you already have donated, thank you so much.

Thank you Sienne for letting us know about Attie.

Sending lots of prayers, healing vines, snowflakes for our sweet Attie.

We are thinking of you today Beth....Please keep us posted.

((((((Beth)))))))

hugs,
tena
