Racci seems to be in a good mood today. I think she needed that day off yesterday. She was hoping for another today & tried getting away with food before tests, sitting pretty at her food spot looking up at me with those pretty eyes, but mean mom only allowed the 7am when I couldn't see yet & was still stumbling before I wbtb after only 3 hours sleep.

I tried giving the Epicure as treats for her test and I think just that little bit might have brought her bgs up. She loved them though. I'll have to see what's on the treat list that I might not have tried.

I hope all is well today and all sick kitties feel better, as well as their beans.

Melanie & Racci

Nice to see Racci in blue today, Melanie!

I give Gracie the Whole Life freeze dried chicken treats. I order them online in the 21oz bag....expensive but it lasts a long time and is cheaper that way. She didn't like the Purebites.

Hi Marje,

Racci doesn't like the freeze dried anymore. She did for a while and then just stopped eating them. I have to find something new that isn't freeze dried. She's very fickle. I'd be afraid to buy any in a large quantity. Her last favorites were the Goodlife Recipe but they're just loaded with carbs. She got tired of all the healthy ones. She hasn't had them for a while though so maybe I'll try some of her old favorites again. She used to like the Halo have a heart. Maybe she'll like that again. Sorry this took so long. I thought I sent it and it's been sitting here.

You have forgotten yestreday's link, and just when I want to know why she had a day off, will check in again later...

Hi Serynn,

Sorry, I guess I forgot to explain also! Am I absentminded lately, or what! Racci has been really cranky about getting brushed and in general looking at me like I''m going to do something to her again every time I went over to her lately, so I wanted to spend a quality day with her with just the important tests done. I couldn't believe she actually scratched me the other day and Racci never in her life did that!

So we just played and cuddled and napped together and I let her nap uninterrupted except for meals which she didn't mind. I didn't even brush her, which I'm paying for today in matts, but she's much more relaxed today and didn't even complain a s much when brushed so it did work. I guess she just needs some time off here and there. She's an old lady.

Thanks, Roni. I try. I feel so bad for her some days. She has bad days when she limps and everything hurts her, her syringe will hurt and her test will hurt and brushing will hurt and she won't want me to touch her near her legs. Then other days she does so well. Like right now, she wants me to play with her so I'm going to give her a little time playing with her new toy ball that came with her new litter box. She likes the bell in it but really isn't into chasing it any more. Now her favorite toys are the soft ones so she can use them as pillows after playing with them. I'll have to try to get a picture of that. It's so cute but she usually does it in the bedroom where there isn't good light. I can't decide if her bad days are worth the risk of giving pain meds

We cuddle, nap and play together every day but since her legs got so bad she can't get on the bed anymore so can't sleep with me. Now her bed is right next to mine and I had to extend it with towels on the carpet so feels bigger and encompasses her play area & goes right up to the bed. If I lift her up to sleep with me I'm afraid she'll get hurt getting down to use the litter box during the night. She only comes up with me to read, play or nap.

Moonie does really great. She doesn't have a pink anywhere on her sheet! She's almost always blue or green and the worst she is is yellow. You're really doing a great job. I don't know how you do it! I wish I knew the secret.

I'm pretty sure she does. It hasn't been dx'd though. She's never had pain meds before & the one time she had valium she didn't seem to like that. Nsaids do so much damage that I'm afraid to give them to her. What is Bupe that everyone gives for pancreatitis? Is that an opiate or an nsaid? What is the full name? Is that a very strong medicine that's too strong for the purpose?

I'm thinking of having her tested but hate the idea of putting her under anesthesia.

Bupe is an opiate and I wouldn't think the first choice for arthritis, a lot of people seem to use cosequin, adequan and/or acupuncture. I haven't used any of the above but my understanding is that side effects are minimal. On that basis I would think that a vet would give you cosequin/adequan to try and see if it helps her without insisting on an anaesthetic to diagnose conclusively.

What a lovely girl appreciating her day off and being all sweet for you today. Vyktor has never let me brush him before but (after the hip matts incident) my DM bought him a furminator which he tolerates really well, he even seems to enjoy it sometimes and might stretch out a leg or angle his neck so I can brush him better but once we get to about the 5 minute mark that's the end of it and it's time to play bite the mumbean

While Vyktor's matt incident was going on he wasn't able to jump up onto the bed either (I thought it was arthritis at the time) so I put a box next to the bed for him and he managed nicely with that but if Racci is sore she might prefer sleeping in her own space anyway :?:

Hi Serynn,

Thanks for the info! Adequan is the one I thought might be good for her. The cosequin is pretty mild stuff. it's just cartiledge builder and takes forever to start helping. The hip matts are fairly new while the hip pain isn't, which is why I think it's arthritis. I'm going to call the vet and ask for the Adequan.

Racci always let me brush her before. I've been brushing her once a day all her life until just recently when she started fighting it especially in her rear legs and hips. All of a sudden she's even getting nasty about it, something unheard of for her. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the matts are hurting. I'm going to have to take her in for a shave again. They started with the infection in the anal area when she wouldn't let me brush anywhere near there. She matts in one day of not brushing. She has a big one on her chest from the wet food too now.

I haven't tried the furminator but if you had such good results maybe I will. Thanks! Poor Racci hasn't been able to jump on the bed for a long time. I bought her stairs but she couldn't get the hang of them and boxes but still no go. When it's time to go down she still tries to jump and gets hurt.
