Hi LL Friends,

Racci went from not wanting to eat all day & evening yesterday to being ravenous in the wee hours and this morning, back to needing coaxing again at +5. She isn't pooping as much as usual though her last stool was softer than usual and she is not struggling so I'm not quite sure what's going on with her except that I know she's very tired & a little cranky. I think it's all because of Jr. being here so many days last week but he starts pre-school tomorrow and hopefully that will go well and I should have him only 1 day a week from now on unless he's sick at school & I have to pick him up or school is closed. That will be much easier on Racci and on me. I hope she snaps back alright before he comes again on wdnesday.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my last batch of test strips for the Bayer Contour. If I move them even slightly while they are sipping, they have an error! I've wound up using up to 4 strips for 1test sometimes! Its ridiculous! I have to stick that poor baby morre than once even though she had a nice blood spot. I never used the control solution before. How does that work? I wound up using her Relion Ultima for the last test as I wasn't going to stick that poor girl again. At least with that meter, if it doIesn't get enough blood you can keep adding to it, whereas the bayer immediately gives an error whether you are finished or not. So at any rate, it may not be exactly what it should be in comparison to the other numbers before it. It could be higher probably than it would be if it was Bayer since Bayer is usually a little lower. I figure if it had been the Bayer it might have been about 69 but there's really no way of telling so I put the number it read. I'll be using the relion for a while and seeing if I like it better again. I know I didn't because it took a lot of blood but it's still taking less pokes if I can take more time getting the blood. I have arthritis in my fingers among my list of ills and I just can't always grip properly and move quickly.

I hope everyone in LL is having a good day today. It's been raining and gray all day here today so I took the chance to do paperwork and pay bills while DH did the same with his paper mess and Racci slept most of the day away. I just found this unposted after napping on the couch watching tv! Sorry.

Glad that Ricci is having nice green figures.
Argh! The Bayer Contour giving you trouble with the test trips! I am using the Bayer Breeze2 for over 3mths already. So far it's easy to use. At that time when I was shopping for a glucometer, I read from our local consumer research that there was a recall on Bayer Contour meter & test strips. This was half a yr ago. I dont know if any of those faulty batches got leacked out to the market or not.
I liked the Bayer Breeze2 is because 10 testing strips are foil sealed in a disc like advice & inserted inside the meter. Each time I use, there is no need to take out an individual strip & stick into the meter for testing. It does not require a lot of blood for the test. Maybe you can look up the Bayer Breeze 2 site for the detail. The testing strips are a bit more expansive than the Contour ones but I think there will be less wasteage if we can use each one of it.
Have a nice day Melaine!

Hi Helen,

I bet I got one of those bad strip containers! I didn't hear about that recall. What a drag. Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to call Hocks and have them send me new ones and credit these. I'll check out the breeze. That sounds good if it only needs a little blood and holds 10 strips! Is it easy to refill again? Have you ever used the contour ? I was wondering if you could tell me if it uses less blood than the contour does? I'll definitely look it over. I never liked the contour or the relion ultima. I haven't been able to find one I like since the freestyle lite.

Thanks, Helen! I hope all is well with Rosy and the rest of your gang today.

I got you the web page on the Breeze2 here
http://www.bayercontour.com/Blood-Gluco ... ing/Breeze

I dont know if it require less blood than the contour or not since Ive not used the contour before. But so far my experience with it is good as it is simple to use, no need to insert the strips everytime. So far no problem with the amount of blood, other than when I first start with the lack of experience on the poking 2 mths ago. I believe the strips is a bit more expansive than the contour but if there is no wastage in use, it's justified. And because all the strips are enclosed & sealed inside the foil disc, I dont think moisture or our inappropriate handling will spoil it.
