Yesterday: Purple at both AM & PM preshot. Blue at AM nadir & finished with a yellow at PM+4

Today: A beautiful Monday. Althought we're in the busy city central, still can hear some hungry sparrows around. My cats will get so excited whenever they hear or see the shadow of a bird flying by. Poor city cats! I live behind bars to avoid flying cat. Any non kitty friend visting are so shocked with the way I had grill installed on all windows. And, not to mention the double door! Of course you'd understand! Who would like to live behind bars? :sad:

AMPS 443 gave canned breakfast & 1u (new canned flavour: Australian Ziwipeak lamb!)
This is the 14th cycle on the 1u dose. I guess this ugly red canbe caused by a bounce off the 3.7 on June 2nd.

:?: Since my cats are not on free feeding, they are without food after Rosy's PMPS. Rosy & some of them do have additional canned supper at around PM+3 or +4 but after that, nothing. I am worried about Rosy going too low after that. Yesterday, I tried the auto feeder with a tsp of food set at +6 & +7 for Rosy. She is confined to the corridor where she usually sleep.
My feeding schedule for Rosy is AMPS, +2, +4.5, +8.5, PMPS, +2, +4, +6, +7 Each feeding will be around 2 spoonful of canned, other than the steamed chicken at PMPS.
My question is will she became a porky with the additional food? She has aleady gained a bit of weight which is a good for her but also not that great on her weak rear leg.

If you are breaking out Rosy's feedings, you want to divide up her total daily allotment of food into those meals. You shouldn't be giving Rosy additional food.

FWIW, Gabby gets her food broken into meals at pre-shot, +1 and +2. She doesn't get fed after that unless her numbers are running low and I need to feed to keep her numbers up. That's the only time that she may get additional food.

Hi Helen,
I know that many of the beans using Lantus will not give any food after nadir (with the possible exception of a small snack at +9, to keep a kitty from dropping). They divide up the cycle's food allotment and feed at PS, +1, +2, +3 [+9].

Rusty pretty much free-feeds, but he is used to that and he is on Levemir, not Lantus. He eats about 6 or 7 ounces of food in a 24-hour period. The nadir is later on Lev., so I put out food at AMPS, +5 (lunch), a small snack at +9. In the evening cycle I feed at PMPS and bedtime (+4.5: 11 P.M. here on the East Coast). Rusty never eats all of his bedtime food at bedtime, but it is always gone by morning.

I think that if you put something in the auto feeder for PMPS +9, you would not have to give anything at PMPS +6 and +7. This might be best if you do not want Rosy to gain weight! Just my thoughts, since I have not studied feeding plans.

Thanks for the input! The reason for my feeding with the autofeeder after PM+3 or +4 is because I'm afraid Rosy might be getting very low at those odd hrs w/o food. Usually I test at PM+3 or +4 depending on her number, if 'risky' I'll set alarm for further test , if not than I'll call it a night. Rosy is getting more unpredictable these days that's why I am determined to set the feeder. I doubt if a tsp of LC food is "enought" to bring her up if in a low number of "40s, but still better than no food... Or is it a useless feeding those tsp of LC in an auto feeder to protect her against a possible hypo?

It depends on how carb sensitive Rosy is. Jill's Alex gets a rise in BG from freeze dried chicken. If Rosy is not carb sensitive, then the LC may not help her come up from the 40s but it seems you would know if she's headed that
way by the time you go to bed???? If she is coming down by +2, you could leave a MC food out for her.

I hope you can figure it out. I would suggest not feeding after nadir if you can get by with it but if she's hungry or you are worried about her numbers, then you know her best.

Oh, Rosy, that red is ugly. Let's find a lower floor, what do you think? Good luck figuring out the feeding schedule. We use an auto feeder at night so that he won't go more than a few hours without food. Zener had a couple of scarf-and-barfs in the morning before we started using the auto feeder. He's also had trouble maintaining his weight so we feed him just about as much as he'll eat. I don't think he would eat when he goes low like some cats seem to. Will Rosy do that?

Thanks Marjorie. Rosy is not very carb sensitive. I had a difficult time pulling her up when she was in the low of 40 range. She's such a diver. The +2 does not give any indication of where she's heading. I just have to make a judgement call by the PM+3 or sometimes +4; which is already a 2:30am :roll:

Thanks Liz! Rosy listened to you & go an extra step. She dived!
She always has a good appy & finish off all her food or any food she can find dropped on the floor. I have to be very careful as a few of them are still having dry knibbles. She can eat anytime of her high or low!

AM+5 68! Can you imagine, such a dive! Gave scheduled canned lunch.

AM+7 47 gave LC + gravy chunks of salmon. This is 2 hrs after lunch. I thought her bg would have raised at this time...OK, recducie on the way!

Wow, I see what you mean with Rosy and the drops and lc. That's tough when they're not carb sensitive. Mags is very carb sensitive, so I'm lucky. I'm just catching up on yur condo. Good catch with the 47 and congrats on the reducie. You are doing great with Rosy.

Thanks Ann for your visit! Sure Rosy made me so confused as to her trend & nadir. Ive delayed her last earned reduction by 7 cycle. Sure this PM she'll have her reduction

PMPS 140 gave steamed chicken & shaved dose to s1u (approx 0.9u)

PM+2.5 310 gave canned supper set up the autofeeder for Rosy for +4/ +6

congratulations on the reduction, It's hard when they like to dive like that, but she will eventually.

I'm with the others on stretching out the food before nadir. W/ Tess, like Rusty, being on Levemir that is just later than most cats on Lantus. So we feed at preshot, +3 and +6. I like having more than an hour between feedings to get a cleaner test before each one.

If you are worried about her weight, look at the calories you are feeding her not the weight. Each food is a little different too. If the kcal are not listed on the can you can check on the food charts. Most cat need between 20 and 30 kcal per pound (ideal weight) per day.
