Good morning, everyone,

Rusty is higher again this morning and I think that his dose of skinny 1.5U on the Monoject syringes was actually much closer to a 1.5U or even to a fat 1.5U. Last night we used a Terumo syringe and I measured what ought to have been close to a "real" skinny 1.5U. The Terumos are indeed more accurate and their lack of a "cone" makes it much easier to measure a dose accurately. We'll see what happens today (Rusty may still be bouncing off his trip), but it seems to me that the bg of 210 this morning may reflect not enough insulin. In retrospect, what I thought were "bumps" on the plunger last night were really two identical, symetrically placed bubbles, so last night's shot may have been short. I will give Rusty a few more cycles on this dose as measured with the calipers on the Terumos before I decide to do some tweaking.

We have just had a downpour and the temperature has cooled off quite a bit from yesterday's highs. The wind has shifted to the North, always a good sign. Rusty enjoyed some time outdoors, playing with a small worm. Not as much fun as a chipmunk, but better than nothing!

Wishing you all a good day with cool temperatures, good health, etc. etc. for your kitties and you. Continuing to send swift-recovery vines to Barbara (Tuffy), good-luck at CSU to Neko, and healing vines to all kitties and beans who need some.

bbl,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 8/5 Rusty AMPS 210

Morning!! Rusty has been in different places lately or maybe he's a llittle fussy. or upset, bored,
Or Just Being A Cat!!!   Moonie was 209 when we came home from hamptons last night!!
But she came down really nicely--Hope Rusty does the same--Missed you--Hugs & Love from us!

Re: 8/5 Rusty AMPS 210

Hi Ella, it sounds like the Terumos will be working out much better than the MJ's, just taking some time and getting used to them. I bet the lower temperatures feel good. Enjoy your Sunday.

Re: 8/5 Rusty AMPS 210, +5.5 82

Hi again,
Rusty is back at the lagoon. This is a typical number for him at +5, and Edward told me this morning that Rusty was eating his nighttime food at dawn, so the morning's bg was probably food-influenced (in addition to reflecting Rusty's getting settled in at home again and adjusting to what may be a somewhat different dose).

The cooler weather of the morning has turned HOT and HUMID. That downpour switched the wind around to the south. We are dripping!! Rusty has settled into his basket in the stream of the fan and is taking his afternoon "down time". The beans are going to venture out on a walk.

Sir Rusty - you look SO nice in that green!!! Wish you could convince KT to come on down....

Enjoy your walk but stay cool...we're having a 'cold front' come thru today, it's only 98 but it's also only 1pm...we hit our highs about 5pm.

BIG HUG!!!

Re: 8/5 Rusty +5.5 82, +9.5 91, PMPS 137 pt. fur

Hi again,
Rusty zoomed up at PMPS and then I compounded the zoom by giving a partial fur shot. The Terumo syringes have a "hair trigger". You really have to stay away from the plunger until the last minute. I knew this, but Rusty wasn't cooperating and by the time I got the syringe near his scruff, some of the insulin leaked out on his fur. I think it was only a big drop, but this complicates our transition to the Terumos. It was certainly a short shot!

We just had a big thunderstorm, which cooled things off a bit. Hopefully the weather is getting set to get cooler.

Off to visit condos. Everyone enjoy the evening.

Re: 8/5 Rusty +5.5 82, +9.5 91, PMPS 137 pt. fur

Hi Ella. We had the same weather. Hot, humid, thunderstorm, then cooler, but still horribly uncomfortable humidity.
I had the ac on for a while, just to dehumidify the house.

I was curious about how you manage to change syringe brands. Do you go to the vet for a new script, or were you ready for a new one anyway? Since we can no longer get syringes online w/o prescription, it would mean going back to vet to ask for new script, just to try new ones.
The hair trigger you mention intrigues me. The syringes I am using, don't glide easily, even though I push plunger up and down to spread the lubricant inside, before drawing up insulin.

Well, look at fur shot as a chance to sleep tonight, Ella. :-D

Ella

Nice cycle this morning!!

I so understand about the hair trigger on the Terumos. I think I did the same thing tonight and Gracie gets so little insulin that her fur doesn't get too wet nor does it overly smell of insulin.
But it just seemed that after I inserted the needle that the plunger had already been pushed. Divine intervention I guess    You gotta keep your fingers away from that plunger
until the syringe is safely in the cat.

So....we may both get a good night's sleep!! And your other best boy is doing great.

Sorry for the late post. I hope you guys have had a good day.

Not too sure on your weather! We have been getting updates on the T-Storms hitting the East coast - looks rather severe. :-D

Sorry for the partial shot - I hope Rusty recovers quickly.

and goodluck - enjoy! your upcoming hike!

Well, it sure looks like a nice fur shot! I'm glad I haven't lost my skill

Tomorrow I will open a new cartridge of Lev., since today was day 43 on this cartridge and the cartridge is almost empty in any event.

Ni ni all,

Ella & Rusty
