No 50s. He has usually peaked by +4. That's okay. I need to get a lot done anyway.

Hi Dale, Nice numbers for Max today, though it looks like he may have some excitement planned for you! Have a great rest of the day!

Re: 9/6 Max AMPS 100 +3.5 69 PMPS 93

Hello, everyone.

Max was at 99 at +11.25. He spent nearly the entire day either in the bathtub or on the cedar chest at the foot of the bed. He went outside only once for a little while, but I'm not worried. He's having good LB activity, he's eating just about exactly the right amount of food, and he seems quite alert and happy when I interact with him. He's not drinking much water.

I think he spends so much time upstairs to get away from Emma. She's learning to be more gentle but she bugs him when he tries to eat or drink. I put his food in the hallway and shut the doors to let him eat in peace.

I saw a woman in the parking lot of Target who apparently brought her cat into the store in the cart. She was putting the cart in one of those places in the parking lot where they should go, and I couldn't believe it was a cat, not a dog. We said hello, and Emma patted her cat -- a beautiful calico. If Emma holds her finger up to Max's mouth he will lick it. He will also lick our toes. This cat, of course didn't lick her finger, but she wasn't too disappointed. Amazing that the cat can be taken around like a dog.

I hope everyone is doing all right tonight. I'm sorry to hear that a few kitties are feeling bad or having a high numbers. I'm rooting for you even if I don't post on your condos. Hope things start looking up soon!

Re: 9/6 Max AMPS 100 PMPS 93 +5.25 122 +6.5 84 +9.5 88 Quest

Hello, Max is acting strangely in an entirely different way now. He woke me up twice last night to feed him. The first time he sat by my head and purred loudly. It was at +5.25. I tested him and he was at 122! I was shocked. He hadn't been very low at +2.25 (80), and although he didn't get a food spike at +1, I didn't expect any action. I wondered if he had gone low and had a liver panic.

I got up and went downstairs with him, but he didn't demand fresh food. He hungrily ate what was there. He could have gone to do this by himself, but he wanted me there -- this is not unusual, but he usually wants a fresh dollop.

Fast forward an hour and 15 minutes -- that's all. At +6.5 Max sat on me and purred loudly. The baby was crying, and I tested Max before we went downstairs. He was at 84! This is strange as his nadir is usually around +4 or before. He should have had some uptick in his numbers from the food at +5.25. He was back down, and this made me think that the 122 was a mistake by the meter except that he had been hungry and was now hungry again. Downstairs, same thing -- ate what was in the bowl. I went to get the baby, and I carried her toward the kitchen. He had followed me, and was trying to lead me back to the kitchen. I put a dollop of fresh food on his bowl although there was enough there all ready, and he ate again.

He slept with us for a while, and then moved to the cedar chest. At +10.5 (EDITED from +9.5) he woke me up again with loud purring in my face. I went down, and he ate what was in the bowl. (I didn't want to let him eat, but I felt bad taking it away if there is something wrong.) Then he drank some water. He drank water again at +11 (EDITED from +10). He has a fairly good poo in his LB and two pees. (I cleaned it yesterday at about +2 in the daytime.) I'm relieved he's not eliminating inappropriately. He's using the LB again now -- peeing.

Anyone have any ideas? Do you think his BG plummeted last night between +2.25 and +5? What does it mean that he was at only 84 at +6.5? We have an hour to wait for the AMPS BG reading.

(I will probably not be able to get DH to post at AMPS. I have to leave about 15 minutes before that. I'll check the board from my phone, and try to update based on a phone call from DH, but I don't know how successful I'll be at getting that done this morning. Please post anyway, so that I can check with my phone at around +2 at the latest.)

Hi Dale, Rhiannon pointed your question out to me. (Thanks, Rhiannon!)

I've looked over Max's SS. He has had some early drops to mid-range greens (5th Sept. AM-cycle is the most recent example), so he *may* have dropped just a bit lower than his liver was easy-going about. Or there may have been a meter error (do you remember: was the blood roplet unusual in size, bigger/smaller than normal?). Or he may have gotten into contraband (any possibilities here? Can he go into the kitchen whenever he wants? Can there have been something forbidden for him to get at?). Or he may have freaked out about something or been stressed/irritated about something. Lots of options!

Whatever the answer - with the exception of that 122 in mid-cycle, he has had a flat flat flat green Cycle of Perfection! The AM-cycle on the 5th is actual quite similar (next pre-shot pending, of course - with the feeding at +10.5, you're probably looking at a blue, food-pushed PS). So what I think the green flatness means? In a word: Progress!

Hope that helps! If others see other things, I'm sure they'll pipe in!
Hugs
Jane

Re: 9/6 Max AMPS 100 PMPS 93 +5.25 122 amps 87 +2 102 ?

Thank you, Jane and thanks Rhiannon. I'm waiting to hear from my husband about the Amps and the +2. I'll post when I know. Oh, this just in: 87 at amps, ate again an hour ago, +2 102. DH will check at + 3. There is no contraband available to him. Maybe the coyotes got close or particularly loud.

Re: 9/6 Max AMPS 100 PMPS 93 +5.25 122 +6.5 84 +9.5 88 Quest

How about this?
There was food in the bowl. He ate some a few minutes before the 122, which boosted his BG... then he woke you up and munched some more. At +6.5, woke you up again, tested at 84? How about his pancreas kicked in during that hour and a half, and pushed his BG down - like nature intended? Maybe all the wake ups were Max saying "hey Mom, watch what I can do on my own?"

Carl

ETA- this could also be why you not seeing food spikes at +1. His insulin needs have gone way down, right? Not because it is working better, but because his body is healing and able to regulate itself to some extent. I'm not really sure how quickly a non-diabetic self-regulates, but I would think it's fairly instantaneous if everything internal is operating correctly? This is one of those times where it'd be awesome to have a constant BG measuring device to monitor the ups and downs at meal time...

Thank you Jane And Carl! He might be doing it on his own! If so will e
That would be awesome!

At +4.5 he's at 94. I'll have to post a new thread when I get home.

I like Carl's idea about the food spike before you tested Max but I have another thought too. It could also be that he's changing his nadir. Racci confused me when she did that. I couldn't figure out what was going on until she did it a couple of times. All of a sudden out of the blue she changed from 3 to 6 for weeks than changed back again and has since done it several times.

Re: 9/6 Max AMPS 100 PMPS 93 +5.25 122 +6.5 84 +9.5 88 Quest

Ooh, Melanie, I hope not! :-D I don't need a later nadir! :-D

So, he did something similar today. However, we did get a food spike this time. My husband says he ate at about +1. I assume he ate when he was given his shot, too; hope so!

At +6.25 he was at 119 whereas last night he was at 122 at +5.25. This isn't an inverted curve is it? If it is, what does that mean? (Please respond on my new thread? at http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=78679

In any event he appears to be well. He's sitting on the balcony with us very interested in all the things we can't see going on in the yard. I picked him up out of the bathtub, his favorite place these days and took him out there with us. He doesn't seem to be interested in going back inside. When I got up out of my chair to get the testing supplies, he jumped into it. He is ALWAYS waiting for someone to leave his chair so that he can cuddle into the warm spot that is left!

Have a wonderful night everyone.

Dale
