    10/7 thread

    Good morning! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

My, oh my. Change the carbs around a bit and down he comes! Of course the carbs may have had nothing to do with it since he does seem to be on a seesaw ride (up...down...up...down).

Amy, I think Poopy and Trixie have been conspiring when we're not looking.
Deborah, yeah...consistent he is...until he changes things around on me!
Rhiannon, I think he listened to you and poopedpopped down two floors. :D (edited to fix Freudian slip)

Since the carb offerings I have are 0-1%, 8-9% and the dreaded 11-12%, think I'll mix a can of the 0-1% with the 8-9% for the two wells today. Make my own 4-5%. :D

Have a great day in Lantus Land! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Thank you, Carla and Jane. I, too, am hoping he will learn to hang ten and am interested to see what the 4-5% carbs will do for Poopy.

BB in about 15 minutes after the AM BG test.

    15 minutes later..116.

My concerns - I should be leaving for work in 10 minutes..but can stall a bit. I won't be home to monitor, but can pop by every few hours (on breaks).

Are you able to stall? (Don't feed.) This looks like a dropping number.

I am stalling, only giving Poopy his raw chicken chunks at testing.

Wiil do. I already let work know I'm running late and why.

    And, thank you, Sienne. :YMHUG:

It looks like numbers may be rising. Are you able to monitor him at all this morning?

I would probably re-test in another 15 -20 min. to make sure numbers are heading up.

I'll re-test in 20. Am already late for work and will wait until reasonably sure Poopy will be ok. Thankfully my boss is really cool and understands.

    135. He seems to be creeping upward, but not by much.

That's OK. It's an upward trend. I think you're OK to shoot. However, I'm just concerned about your getting a +1 and +2 and any other tests in order to monitor.

That's my concern, too. Poopy doesn't always head upward in +1 or +2.

I'm going to re-test in about 5 min. Then will probably feed and shoot. If I leave for work (which I can put off until we think it's safe) I can't test every hour. More like every 3.

    164 at +13.33

Fed and shot usual dose. Mixed 0% and 9% carbs for AM food cycle.

Sienne, should I wait an hour to test again?

Mixing 0% and 9% gives you 9% food!!

I would expect a food spike. If you can leave more food and go to work and be back by +3, I think you'll be OK. Will that be possible?

Also, can you change your subject line? The 164 is your AMPS.

~Sigh I would have thought mixing would have lowered the 9%.

Sienne, thanks for being here. Even though I read through the sticky "Shooting low" I just wasn't comfortable doing this on my own. It's scary. I know he wasn't close to hypo...but being so unsure of what/when/if to shoot....you know what I mean, I'm sure.

Yes, if I head out to work I can come back in a couple hours to check on him.

    Hi Teresa...

It is scary to shoot low the first time... and every time ;-) I am glad that your boss is so understanding, and that you live close enough to drop by on your breaks to check on the Poopster.

Poopy surf along in the blue lagoon while your momma is at work, you hear?

    Have a good day Teresa,
    Kathie

I see Poopy belongs to the "never a dull moment” crew also. Good job Teresa. I know how you feel about these lower numbers. You want to see them, but learning this dance on PZI, then switching to one of the the L’s messes with your brain a bit.

Hope more nice blues are headed your way!

Why not? If you mix the same caloric amounts of 0% and 9%, then the resulting % calories from carbs should be around 4.5%. The carb calories from the 9% portion are "spread" in the larger volume of food. Am I missing something?

Thank you all for the "good job" praises but I really think they go to Sienne for helping me out. While I wasn't running around the house tearing out my hair, it was really hard for me to focus or know what to do (other than stall and ask for help). The "Shoot low" sticky deals with almost hypo lows so I was at a loss. If it had been a weekend, I don't think I would have paniced....as much.

The thanks, including my heartfelt, huge THANK YOU!, goes to those who have walked these halls, been through the trials and tribulations and have stuck around to share with others. We "newbies" may drive you, those with experience, nuts from time to time, (or even, heck, on a dialy basis!) but we will learn...and hopefully be able to pass it on when our time comes.

    Once again...THANK YOU! :YMHUG:

    You're welcome!

It looks like Poopy decided that a bounce was in order.

It may help if you think about the shooting low sticky more in terms of accumulating data to be data ready to shoot greens. You shot at 164 today. Next time, you'll be able to shoot lower and even lower the time after. The same rules apply until you're comfortable with shooting low. I was frightened the first time, too. Now, I hardly even think about it.

Hey Poopy. Giving momma a hard time today.

I also thought that mixing LC and HC made MC...at least that is what I've been doing.

I totally get your hesitation about shooting the low numbers. My first couple lows caused me to stay up all night (with Jane and Marje, what blessings they were) as they walked me through my fears and the 15-30 min tests.

You are doing great! How nice you can adjust your work schedule a bit to accommodate for this.

I thought I had been here already today.

I'm happy to see that Sienne said that about the food.
I had asked my DH that question about mixing foods and he had told me that mixing a 5 % and a 10 % just means you have
a portion ( whatever amount you use) of each of the 5% and 10 % .
Mixing them together doesn't take anything away from the 10% , it's still 10 %, just a smaller portion.

Glad you were able to shoot today. It does get easier. Poopy just doesn't always pick the predictable path...
    Hope tonite's going well.

Teresa and Poopy - sorry to hijack your thread! Great job with Poopy on that number - it's hard to shoot lower and lower numbers nailbite_smile

The carb % question is a good one and it drove me to Dr. Lisa's list and I did some math to figure it out. Mixing different foods will give you a % carb value somewhere in the middle. I put a discussion with the math in my condo today. If I misunderstood this discussion, or something isn't clear, please do let me know. I got curious about this myself since I was doing the same shortcut of averaging the numbers and suddenly wondered if I was screwing up Leo's food even more  .
