Sorry for the late posting -- had to transfer B from emerg to the regular vet today then get straight to work, and busy day there.

B is doing quite well. She isn't super-energetic, but feels well enough to be cranky. Her PMPS was quite nice at 212. The vet said she debated, then decided to start B on 0.5 units to be conservative while we transition her from fast-acting + Lantus to just back on the Lantus. Her ketones were negative as of late afternoon, so that's fantastic!

She is home for the night with me monitoring, but back to the vet tomorrow so they can keep a little more of an eye on her, including supplementing with fast-acting if necessary.

We are going to start giving her some metamucil for potential constipation, after having had two enemas recently (poor thing!) -- I am concerned the Evo is contributing to this, although I think the first time was after she was at emerg for her DKA, and she was on a/d there. (Maybe the ketones are contributing?) Hopefully the metamucil won't affect her BG too much, probably better than other fibre sources.

And we are going to try some extra vitamin B12 for her anaemia. I've been trying to get my head around Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents (ESAs), they seem pretty complex and a serious thing to add to the mix of other stuff going on with her. If anyone has experience with this, I'd be glad to hear it.

It's really great to have her home, although at the same time I am really anxious about her...I am so hoping we can get her to a stable place soon.

I can't offer any advice, but I am so happy for you and B that she got to come home for the night! Lower numbers and no ketones!
Great news,
Carl

I'm so glad to hear she is doing so well! I'm glad the ketones are negative.

How anemic is she? If you use B12, you must also use a multiB complex. My Gus has CKD and we've been able to hold him pretty steady out of anemia just by using methylB12 and Jarrows B Right complex. I'm not sure how effective they are if kitty is already anemic. It depends on whether it is regenerative or nonregenerative.

If she needs something more for the anemia, check into Aranasp over erythropoietin.

It's great that B is home. You might also ask your vet about Miralax/Restoralax vs. Metamucil. They are both helpful for constipation and Miralax doesn't involve fiber. It's very gentle.

Just doing some comparisons on the anemia, and it seems to have gotten quite a bit worse in the last couple weeks -- from 25 to 17. Boo. We started her on a B complex, but without the extra boost of B12 vitamin I think is recommended.

Thanks, Marje -- I was looking at Aranesp. They still seem a bit tricky, but we are almost there -- unless it has gone down because she isn't feeling well? I think I need to talk to my vet about this a bit more.

Incidentally, I get much of my CRF information from Tanya's site at www.felinecrf.org . Her referencing of the original medical sources, published and not, impresses me tremendously.

I will ask about Mirilax, Sienne -- thank you!

UPDATE: Her BG is going the wrong way, now at 281...but I'm guessing this might also be the Toronto wearing off. Will keep watching, but probably not a lot of hypo risk tonight. Hope she starts going down instead of up, though.
