Good Morning LL

Checkers ate good breffis of Friskies, alongside Tux.
When Tux walked away, Checks ran to see if he had scored better fuds
Clancy, as usual, waits until he's starving, before eating the dreaded wet stuff.

Everyone's finally napping, giving the bean a chance to get something done around here, without tripping over furblobs.

QUESTION
I agonize over this every month or so.

How does one know to fatten the dose, or start a new pen? This is only day 35, and it looks good

Thank you.

Re: 1/14 Checkers amps 311 +2/348

I hope Checkers comes down for you today. It is the same here with the food. Lucky is always trying to get to the other kitties' dishes. They must have something better.

Hi Barb, what a family drama with the fuds and tripping over the Furblobs. I love hearing about their breffifs. I hope Checkers comes down to the blue floor.
It was 39 degrees this morning!

Oh goody, Checks is hanging out in yellow instead of pink, finally.
He puked again this morning. Mostly water, bits of food.
Checkers has been having too much soft poos, and throwing up.

Clancy is a habitual puker, on Friskies...when he finally eats it.
I've started hanging labels on fridge, as I get a sick cat. Friskies isn't working out too well.
Gotta eliminate all problem flavors. What a pain!
Clancy also gets soft doodoo....on his long hair britches. *sigh*

I'm thinking everyone is going to be eating the costly Fancy Feast.
I can't find it for less than around $14, for a case of 24 online......it's $15 something around here.

Re: 1/14 Checkers pmps 260-- Q in first post

Hi guys we use FF too and the kitties like it and it seems to not cause any problems with them. Do you have petsmart near you? I try to go there since they are always the cheapest but I do buy it on sale at the grocery store too. Walmart & Target tend to be cheaper too. Nice to see Checkers in the lower numbers. I use the pens until they are gone unless I see a change in his numbers. As long as the insulin is still clear and no particles it is usually fine. I am sure others have different opinions. Hope you have a great night!

Re: 1/14 Checkers pmps 260-- Q in first post

Barb:

The 15oz cans of Wellness end up being cheaper than FF. Since you're feeding three cats, that may work.

Usually if the insulin is bad, you get inconsistent/wonky numbers. I tend to think you take your time with dose increases.

Re: 1/14 Checkers pmps 260-- Q in first post

Ah, fuds challenges...I hear ya.

Trix and Frankie both eat Fancy Feast...my Wegman's often has it at 50 cents a can, and Target is usually 55 cents a can. I also feed Purina One chicken pate and Turkey pate - but those are both 89 cents for a teeny can! From what I've found, though, these are the fuds that work best with Trix's numbers...Wellness tends to spike her, for whatever reason, and she doesn't like the Friskies...

Have a great evening!!!

Aha, thanks Sienne.....reading between the lines, I'm thinking this is a hint to raise in the morning.

Unless told to do something different, I'm going to fatten the 0.5

Thank you Sienne and Michelle
Checks doesn't like Wellness Turkey or Chicken....I keep trying....and wasting.

No Petsmart nearby.....Walmart is 25 miles....not worth the drive to save a dime on a can.

Re: 1/14 Checkers pmps 260-- Q in first post

Hi Barb,

The fuds dilemma is always with us, it seems! Sienne's suggestion to buy the large cans of Wellness might very well work out for you with 3 cats eating the same food. It's ingredients are certainly better looking than the ones on the Friskies labels. Wellness also seems to have "staying power" (Rusty will eat it every day, even when he might prefer to have all FF T&G.) (Since his pancreatitis flare I always put a little FF T&G into his bowl along with the Wellness as a little added treat.)

I would keep using the Lev. until it really seems to be losing its efficacy. It is "rated" for 42 days, after all (and that is 42 days at "room" temperature--for humans). Since Checks gets a pretty low dose and since you keep it in the fridge, it should stay good a long time (I have read that when the vial or pen is about 3/4 empty, it is time to be watchful, and I interpret this to mean that the less insulin in the vial or pen, the less effective it is). However, I read in a post of Jill's once that she uses a Levemir pen until she has to hold it sideways to get the last few drops out of it. Personally, I keep a pen going for about 50 days (but Rusty is on a larger dose than Checkers, so the level goes down faster).

Have a good evening. I hope that the slush in your backyard freezes soon. But if it does, wear your Yak-trax or mini spikes!

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

I pay 65cents a can at Kroger for ff... You've got my store beat.
Some of the brands I buy are twice that much.... :o

Hope Checkers slides down out of that yellow and into some blues...

I hear ya with the fuds issue, wouldn't it be nice if our cats liked to eat the same food everyday (like Rusty!) Maybe next time you make a run to the 'big city' you can stock up on FF.

Good luck with the increase and work that extra juice Checkers!!

Good luck on the increase, it's time to get that boy back down to earth!

Sheesh, i could have sworn that i had posted earlier. i see Sienne already suggested Wellness and you said it's a no go, so ignore what I meant to say but apparently didn't. I will say though that it took me a year of trying off and on before I got Tess to eat Wellness. Now she eats it every day.

Thanks for your support re DM.
