I did a spaceout today and went to work, forgetting that I had switched days with someone else and was off today. ohmygod_smile Luckily, work is only a 7 minute drive from home.

Looking at your spreadsheet and I'm not sure the 0.25U is working for Cleo. If you do manage to get out early, that +9 would be helpful.

I am having such a hard time "catching" her to test during the day. As soon as she sees that she has no where else to run to, she stops, stiffens, and urinates (in a spray position.) I know she is doing it out of fear, I don't yell at her, and I gently pick her up and go test. I give her food after (she likes NO LC treats, or people food), and a brushing (which she does like). Then I let her go whereever she wants. But, this spraying is getting bad. She is even doing it in the litter boxes. She gets in the litter box, and instead of pointing her bum down, she stays standing and pees some against the side of the box, but half out of the box, on the floor, walls, etc. She never was a digger and coverer, always just stepped in, did her business, and stepped out.

This is driving my hubby (and me) crazy. I have four different litter boxes out right now, and I am going to the store to look for a "different" kind. Just to try something. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. The spraying seems to be getting worse the more she does it :sad:

Ugh on the spraying. That is beyond annoying. We buy plastic storage boxes, the big kind with high sides, then cut a slot out of the end to get in and out. Doesn't have to be very wide and you can leave it pretty high there too. The high sides will catch everything, unless she's pointing out the opening. The cheaper plastic are better because the litter doesn't stick to it. Try to avoid the grooves in the bottom too.

ETA: The other thing we do is line the area around the litter box with plastic sheeting, like painters use. We also have a plastic mat with a lip at the opening that catches any pee.

You can get a plastic type rug.... something like astro turf to put under the cat box .... it catches litter.... would protect the surrounding floor and can be taken outside and rinsed
or just a good shaking for getting litter off....

Have you tried every kind of treat/reward or just a few?
If you could just find that one thing that gets her attention so she would come to you instead of freezing and peeing...

Was she previously a dry addict?
that might be worth the one kibble as a treat if she liked that.....

that would indeed be so frustrating....
and if the only time you approach her is test time....
it might help if you mix in a few non test times to catch her and brush her or just reward her ..... no stress events....

Thanks for all the suggestions ~ we already use rubbermaid type tubs for our regular litter boxes. But, she steps in and pees, right along the edge. That is okay, except now she is lifting her butt up - so most of the time, most of it is outside the box. I tried putting down some wee wee pads just around the litterbox, but she just peed near them, wouldn't step on them. So, bought a regular kitty litter box, with the lip on top, maybe she will like that. Tomorrow morning will tell for sure.

Cleo was never a cat who hung out with the family. So for me to pet, massage her extra, I still have to go find her. And try to get her to come to me. It is just hard.

I wish there was a magic food she loved, but there is not. No people food, she likes crunchie treats, but she will not come for them. She sits on the counter when she is hungry and stares at me if there is no food out. The thing that can sometimes bring her out is the pop of the can opening.

When I get her to test, she is good. I don't have to hold her down, she stays fairly still, and then waits for her food. I know the process doesn't hurt her, she is in no rush to get away. She gets along good with all the others, 2 boy kitties & 2 large dogs. She is the dominant cat, never runs from the boys, and they maul each other, but know to not annoy her. She is the only pet who has never slept in our bedroom. She sleeps in the spare room under a rocking chair. She sometimes jumps on the arm of the chair for a rub while you are watching tv, but will never relax on you.

So, she has always been my little loner. And it was okay until her diagnosis. Thanks for listening, just needed to vent today~

It sounds like she's associating your catching her with something bad. Cats typically don't react well to being cornered and I think that's what you may be seeing. She's either spraying out of fear or to exert dominance. What would happen if you went to get her some of the time and all you did was brush her? If you can get her to associate your getting her in a position where there's no outlet with something she likes, it's possible that the behavior will decrease especially if she can't figure out whether you're going to brush her or test her.

Will Cleo come when you call her? Will she respond to a toy? If she'll chase after a toy, that may be a way to get her to come for a test.

It looks like there's been enough time to gauge whether Cleo's numbers were a bounce vs. the dose reduction not working. I'd suggest increasing back up to 0.5u at your AMPS.

Yes, Sienne, I will increase her to .5 in the am.

I will try "catching" her at non-shot times, to see if that helps. So far,she has used the new litter box 2 times,and all pee has stayed inside the box! Yippee!
