any time limits on using metoclopramide (pepsid/reglan)?

Danny is puking less now that he's on regular doses of metoclopramide for the last week or so. Is there any problem to continuing its use indefinitely? If so, what are the signals to stop its use?

He gets 2.5mg every 8 hrs. He weighs 11 lbs.

Is there any conclusion I should draw from the fact that the meto seems to be helping, in terms of what might be the actual cause of the vomiting?

Danny had an endoscopy last Tues which looked good. Still waiting for biopsies to come back. (Danny has lymphoma and takes biweekly chemo.)

thanks,
laur

I don't know the answer, except that Maggie has been on reglan for 6-9 months with no problem. I think she is on it for as long as it helps. The only change we've made is to give it BID by dividing the dose in half (.25 + .25 = .5). Doing that has really helped with the 6am barfing.

Metoclopramide is the generic name for Reglan and is a antinausea drug. Pepcid AC id an anacid. A rpoblem with lonnterm use of an anacid is a vitamine B12 deficiency since an acid evirornment is needed for proper absorbsion of B12 from the diet.

B12 absorption - timing B12 pill around reglan dose?

I do give Danny methyl B12, 3mg BID -- is there a way I can 'time' his B12 so as to maximize absorption? Say 1/2 hour before the reglan?

thanks so much Larry!
