I got her eating more wet than dry right now!

Even though Clara has been happily chomping on her EVO/DM mixture (yes, I still need a gas mask when I clean the box), I continue to feed her wet food at injection time in the hopes she'll get more interested in it (I can see Dr. Lisa shaking her head up and down and saying "yes ... very good ... very good" smiling smiley ). I bought a big package of chicken cut up, took off the skin, wrapped each piece in foil and baked them. When they were done, I took the chicken out of its foil and saved the broth (yes, I'm sure there was probably an easier way to do this but understand I'm "culinary challenged"). When I've given Clara her shot and her wet food, I've been heating a couple tablespoons of the broth and pouring it over the wet food and instead of eating 1/8th of it, she's eating more like 7/8ths of it. Meanwhile, I have lots of chicken to compliment my South Beach Diet salads. The question remains though - is it just a passing fancy or the start of a new trend .......

btw - the EVO has put almost a pound on her. I'm not complaining because she seemed too boney to me lately, just don't want her up to 17 pounds again (she's 11 lbs right now and it's an ideal weight for her at her age and limited activity level).

Good going Chef Chet!

Congratulations on persuading her to eat more wet. Hope the poops "lighten up"! Frankly it is the same here, and he doesn't even eat EVO yet.

That's great Chet, but keep an eye on her glucose levels. You may need to reduce the insulin dose.

This is great news, Chet. And what a beauty ClaraKitty is! There's a canned food that my Lionel just can't seem to get enough of. It's Nature's Variety Venison diet. He's totally addicted, and it's very healthy food, but sooooo expensive, like $2.25 per 6 oz. can!

I'm sure you could order it from a website at a discount. It might help get ClaraKitty totally off the dry, but it sounds like you're already doing a pretty good job of that yourself.

Good work!

I've bought the Nature's Variety venison for her (believe me when I say she has had every kind of wet cat food ever made!) and yes, I paid over $2.00 a can for it, and the stinker turned up her nose and didn't even give it her usual two smacks. She doesn't care for any of the Nature's Variety wet foods (I've bought them all - meanwhile daddy eats rice because he's broke) which disappoints me because they are so good. Too bad we aren't neighbors - you wouldn't have had to buy wet food for Lionel in over two years - I could have just brought you over the 7/8ths of the can Clara didn't touch. Hopefully the chicken broth will keep her interested to keep her eating more wet than dry.
Sounds like ClaraKitty needs an attitude adjustment smiling smiley

That could be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Without the Nature's variety, at least now you'll be able to afford to eat some beans with that rice. It sounds like you're having some success weaning her off the dry though. Keep up the good work.

I'd suggest something else, but it sounds like you've tried everything on earth already. ClaraKitty sounds very very special. I'm sure she has a throne somewhere in the house. smiling smiley

I know --- considering what kind of attitude she lays out you'd think she'd gravitate more toward the better quality wet food, but instead, she prefers the "lower shelf" brands. I try not to look at the ingredient labels too closely (by-products - ugh) and recant Dr. Lisa's analysis of low-end wet food versus high-end dry food as the cans go clinkity clink into the grocery cart.

Somehow it seemed not so bad to be feeding him Bambi, but not bunnies. He somewhat likes the lamb, but he LOVES the venison. Go figure. Of course it does figure that the venison is one of the most expensive flavors!

Obviously has good taste - unlike "Miss Bottom Shelf Brand" here.
