Hello all - I'm here because of Clyde. I thought I had created a profile a long time ago but it's not listed, not sure why. Here is the information suggested that I include.

1. What kind of insulin does your cat get? He gets PZI. I think it's BR but the label now says idexx. It's U40

2. What is your cats insulin dose? Up until recently he was 6U 2x a day but we've had other issues lately so now it's 1 - 2U & not always every day.

3. When was your cat diagnosed? 2 years ago

Had your cat been given steroids for ANY reason prior to diabetes diagnosis? No

4. Recent blood glucose numbers - currently they are all over the place - from 100 - 500+. He's going through something right now that I am researching your message board for & if I don't see anything like it I will post. But prior to all of this, his numbers were about 150 - 300 depending on the time of day. I don't know about the ketones.

5. If you are hometesting, what meter are you using, and how often are you hometesting? Accucheck Advantage with the comfort curve strips. I was testing 1-2x a week when things were going well. As of late it seems that I'm testing around shot time.

6. Does your cat have any other health problems? Currently yes but this only began about 2 months ago. He started sneezing. As in the past his kidney levels were a little high but also his liver levels I think were up. Vet said retest in a month once he's better. We're nearing the month but he's not better. Clavamox was no good, amoxy was ok but now he's back to not eating/drinking enough.

7. Does your cat have any hind leg weakness (neuropathy)? Initially this is what got me to the vet. Once he started getting insulin it went away. Long story short, it comes & goes. When he's doing well, he looks good & can jump on the sink. When he's not, he looks thin & won't jump (or tries & falls).

8. What food, and how much, is your cat eating now? How much food before shot time? He's never been big on canned food so he mostly just eats dry. I never measured it but I keep a good close watch on the level of the bowl as I leave it out all day. If it looks like he hasn't eaten much, I would test him. He eats KD now but he was on DM for a year. Vet switched him over about a year ago (if that).

It's all pretty complicated these days. We were definately on the way to being more regulated after a year & a half. A new bottle of PZI was much more potent so he'd only need about 4U 2x a day. Then 2 weeks later we'd go to 5U & then 2 weeks later 6U. We might have even gotten to 7U but then all the complications started. Now he's not getting a lot of insulin because his readings are coming out low but he looks like he needs it.
