I first thought something might be wrong about a month before the 17th. He just didn't look right to me. A few weeks later my little 20 pound piglet felt a little bit lighter. When he started drinking alot on the 15th,I thought he had CRF. But I gave him a day just to see how he'd act in case I was just being uptight(I'm a mom that's my job!). I was thrilled later that night when he started to pee and pee. I knew it was probably, hopefully.... Diabetes and it was something treatable.

My uncle (The Vet) saw him the next morning. He looked at him, thought he looked skinny. He had lost 7lbs!! He did blood work and did BG testing right then. He said it would at least tell us if Diabetes was the problem and that we would wait for the blood test to come back to find out if anything else was going on . He BG was 528. He told us to go buy a glucometer and started him on 2 units PZI before we left. He gave us some Science Diet Growth/Kitten (the name changed) he told me not to feed him to much and to feed 6hrs. after injection but no instructions on the amount.

When the blood work came back everything was normal except his BG was really 730 (he said BG level would be higher when done in a lab) and that one of his liver enzymes was slightly elevated, but that it was nothing to worry about. I don't know if I believe that. I can't even get a good night's sleep because I wake up through out the night just to see if he's breathing. For the moment he's on 5 units of compounded PZI.We started at 2 units and have gone up over time. I have questions and I'm a basket case but that's why I'm here. I am so greatful I found this site.
