Hi everyone. Calvin, 11 years old, was diagnosed in early December 2002 after we brought him in with the usual symptoms (thirst, peeing all the time, weight loss, but mostly he looked and acted sick and not himself. Started with glipizide which proved inefeective after several weeks, then NPH insulin U-100, 1 unit a day for about four days. Just started (Feb 25th 2003)on one shot each morning (1 unit) of beef-pork PZI which the vet ordered. The bottle is U-40 so he gets 2.5 units in our U-100
sryinges. The PZI is made by IDEXX.
Calvin is a great cat, very loving, mellow, fearless (mostly, and to a fault), and tolerant. He lets us (with our encouragement) test his glucose with an ear stick, though that has taken a few weeks for all of us to get used to. Giving him his shot is nothing compared to that, and we wish (with hindsight)that we had started insulin earlier.
