Pocus is a 10 year old neutered male Siamese. He is gracious enough to allow us to live in his house, near Atlanta, GA.

His litter-mate, Hocus, died in Dec 2002 from renal failure, but Pocus has never been sick until Jan 2004, when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Pocus is a pistol... you never know when he might turn from being a lovable, purring lapkitty to a blood-drawing, biting, hissing demon. When we pet him we just make sure we're looking at him; he gets mad if he doesn't have our full attention. I think he just likes to catch us offguard. I was always thankful that he was so healthy because I didn't know how I would ever be able to medicate him in any way due to his attitude.

Pocus, aka Pokieman, gets 3.0 units of Humulin L BID.

Mar 2004, Pocus has been back at the vet more than he's been home. My regular vet is on vacation or something, and the substitute vet has raised his dose to 5.0 over the course of about 2 1/2 days. From the info I've read and the fabulous supportive people here, I've decided to bring him back home and lower the dose, as well as start hometesting, which I hadn't done before. He seems to be rebounding, since with all that insulin his bg is still over 600 at the vet's.

One week later, he is now doing better, but I've quit trying to prick that mean cat's ear. I'm lucky to get his insulin in him and it's obvious that he feels better since he's more feisty and active. I would love to know his bg but I'm not going to lose fingers to get it.

This pic is of Hocus and Pocus in healthier days. Pocus is the lilac colored kitty.
