Hi, my name is Amanda. I currently have 6 cats. I'll tell you a bit about them.
Morgan--DSH--age 10. I rescued her as a kitten from an unwanted litter that was going to be sent to the pound.
Sidney--All White DSH--age 5. rescued as an under developed kitten dumped out of a car in a parking lot by a woman who apparently didnt want her cat's kittens.
Jezebel--All Black DSH--age 3. Took Jezzie in at 1 1/2 from a shelter in Manassas. She was underweight with ear mites and an upper respiratory infection...now fat and happy.
Cordelia and Harmony-- grey tiger stripped DSH's, sisters--age 4 months. Rescued them from The Homless cat shelter at which I volunteer and foster.
And now our current foster
Salem--Havana Brown--we think 1 1/2. Took her from a woman who had declawed her, then dumped her outside to live. I got her 3 weeks ago. She weighed 2 pounds, had ear mites and heavy lacerations on her neck and paws, and was starving. First week went ok, but she was slow, sluggish, and did not interact. But she ate like a horse and consumed an unbelievable amount of water. After a while her paw swelled up to 5X it's size and she never moved, sleeping with her head in her food dish, near her water. was still eating and drinking a lot. So I decided to take her to my vet. They immediately discovered she was diabetic and anemic. My question is, she spent a month in the Vet before I took her home...why did they never catch this? So, I had to leave salem for the weekend so she could get an IV treatment. Now her blood is normal, no crystals, and she is on 2 units of insulin and DM cat food. Vet has not been overly sharing with information, So we look forward to all tips and suggestions to make Salems life as normal and happy as possible. Also, if anyone is interested in adopting her, please let me know before I get too attached. She is incredibly sweet and loving, attention hungry and calm.
Salem is on 2 units of Humulin L twice a day, and eating 1/4 a can of prescription wet DM 3 times a day.

Salem has no ketones, average bg of 220...we'll know more after next week's curve.
