Agreed... 1 spot--no need for al that stress of poking her all over--they will go where they need to go.
The way that is right to give them to her is what is right for you and her. Rico likes to be in my lap he nuzzles his face in my arm. No fuss just me talking to him as he gets a full tank of 100sih --Drevon likes to sit on his "throne" as I stroke his chin and sing to him. I sit on the floor with each of them and have the bag up high as it runs on gravity... the higher it is and the lower you are the faster it runs.
    You got this Mogs

Hooray for eating!!!! Every bite is a small step forward. Put enough of those together, and you'll be at the finish line in no time! I have no doubt that you and Saoirse are going to get through this together, and you'll be close and stronger than ever.

Hi, Mogs, I haven't been here much the last day or so and am just getting caught up. What a terrible couple of days you have been through! I was so happy when you said Saoirse had eaten on her own with no help!!! I pray with all my heart that she continues to eat and improve steadily now. She is indeed a little fighter, and she's still got a lot of fight in her. I hope your friend is able to come over and keep an eye on Saoirse while you catch a little sleep, you being beyond exhausted isn't good for either you or Saoirse. I wish I was nearby, I'd come over in a heartbeat. But since I can't, I am sending all prayers and healing vines, and everything good that we can send to you and Saoirse.

    Love, hugs and gentle scritches,

    Hi all,

It's so good to hear from you all and to have at least some good news to report (anti-jinx, anti-jinx).

    :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

The anti-nausea meds seemed to get some purchase yesterday afternoon and I think the water I managed to syringe into Saoirse's mouth in the morning helped too despite it being tough going on both of us. Saoirse kept nibbling away through the afternoon with less and less coaxing.

Saoirse ate 3 pouchfuls of Hill's i/d between 10:45am Sunday and 04:00 Monday but I just checked her mid-cycle BG and it's a rotten 20.1 on Alphatrak (don't even want to think about what it is in mg/dL) up from a pre-shot of 14.8 (and I was 3 hours late giving her insulin because I had passed out and I slept straight through the alarm). :banghead: :( Saoirse was in really good form at PM+1 - I had her snuggled up beside me on the sofa for a while, giving her scritches and fusses. She was purring happily and looked relaxed. Yesterday afternoon she was snoozing comfortably in her kitty hotel. I sat and listened to her gentle, contented little snores. Magic. :)

Following @Meya14's recommendation I gave Saoirse a 0.9ml dose of metoclopramide this morning. A few hours later she produced a large quantity of stool - first bit small and dry but the rest were larger and softer (almost too soft with the most recently digested stuff). She just produced another fairly loose tannish stool at 05:00 so fingers and paws crossed that it's just the motility boost that sent the food through the gut a bit too fast and not anything else. I think it did make her a bit runny the last time she was on it.

Saoirse's blood beta-ketone readings yesterday were 0.3 and 0.2. Today's AM and PM readings were both 0.1.

I managed to eat a bit yesterday and at lunchtime today, and I'm getting some bit of sleep (not much choice - body is taking the legs out from under me). The meds the doctor prescribed for me have helped a bit.

Saoirse's UTI is still an issue with more frequent, smaller pees. I managed to get her to drink a couple of tablespoonfuls of water flavoured with chicken broth and I've been adding a little bit of water to her food (not as much as I'd like but if I add too much she won't eat the food). There's a long way to go but we'll keep on keeping on. Again borrowing @granadilla's mantra: one foot, one paw. (Thank you for teaching me this, Shane. It helps me to keep moving through the exhaustion. :bighug:)

Still absolutely wiped. About to pass out again. My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to you all for everything you're doing to help Saoirse and myself through this. I'm so grateful.

I hope you manage to get in some rest today/tonight. Sending much love and many prayers your way, I am starting a Novena for our cats tonight.

Heavenly Father, our human ties with our friends of other species is wonderful and special gift from You. We now ask You to grant our special animal companions your Fatherly care and healing power to take away any suffering they have. Give us, their human friends, new understanding of our responsibilities to these creatures of Yours. They have trust in us as we have in You; our souls and theirs are on this earth together to give one another friendship, affection, and caring. Take our heartfelt prayers and fill Your ill or suffering animals with healing Light and strength to overcome whatever weakness of body they have.

(Here mention the names of the animals needing prayer).

Your goodness is turned upon every living thing and Your grace flows to all Your creatures. From our souls to theirs goodness flows, touching each of us with the reflection of Your love. Grant to our special animal companions long and healthy lives. Give them good relationships with us, and if You see fit to take them from us, help us to understand that they are not gone from us, but only drawing closer to You. Grant our prayer through the intercession of good St. Francis of Assisi, who honored You through all Your creatures. Give him the power to watch over our animal friends until they are safely with You in eternity, where we someday hope to join them in giving You honor forever. Amen.

(You can make this a Novena for a sick pet, by praying this prayer for nine consecutive days)

Mogs, I'm glad to hear that things are going somewhat better. You've been through so much in the last little while...but I know that Saoirse is benefiting from your love and care! I admire you so...you've worked through so much and you're still doing it. You're an inspiration.

I want to thank you also for all the love, care, and info you've given me lately! With everything you're going through, that you took the time to talk me down, and give me such detailed info to help me out is just amazing to me. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means a lot.

Know that even as I obsessively watch Oreo and follow him around the house when he isn't sleeping near me, I'm still sending purrs and healing vines across the pond for you and Saoirse! Please make sure you're caring for yourself, too, Mogs. Eat a little something (doesn't need to be much...just make sure you're getting something into yourself each day) and drink something (tea, water, coffee...whatever works). :bighug::bighug:

Hooray! Wonderful that Saoirse is continuing to eat a little more, and seems well and content with herself, a great sign, in my book! Keep up the good work, Mogs, you are just the best Kitty Mama I know, and please do take care of yourself, too!

All prayers, healing vines, and goodness from us to you! :) Hugs to you and gentle scritches to Saoirse!

Hey Mogs....I'm so happy to hear the uplifting news. :) (Anti-jinx :) )

You were most kind to me when I first started in here and all along so, of course, I'm pulling for you both, knowing the challenges you, yourself face with issues with anxiety and understanding them. (Was that the longest run-on sentence ever? LOL)

Sending you both hugs, hope, continued prayers, well wishes, healing thoughts and everything else that I can pack in! :)

    Hi people,

I really should start another condo but I'm just too tired tonight.

Thank you all for checking in on us. I appreciate it so much, and you all really do help me to keep going. Today has been very up and down. The UTI means she won't drink in spite of the high numbers and she has been feeling fairly carp most of this evening. :( Between that and the latest antibiotic injection Saoirse's not eating as well today. Had to syringe a little water into her mouth earlier but at least it's a top-up, not a fill-up. Very grateful for any small mercies I can get.

Lúnasa finally decided that i/d isn't quite the worst thing in the world and she ate a bit better today (another running battle I've been fighting behind the scenes). Unfortunately she had diarrhoea again later. :( (Not sure whether the dose of Advocate she had earlier might have been at the root of the latest round of intestinal wobblies.)

Saoirse's BG is the worst it has been since she was first diagnosed (into the 20s on Alphatrak :( ).

Not exactly a red letter day in the Shire. I hope that everyone else and their kitties are doing better than us right now. (And I am so frelling tired. :( )

    Blessings and scritches,

    :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am so happy for you--the fact that she is snuggling is so great !!!!
She wouldn't do that if she wasn't feeling better ;)
is she still on AB for UTI?
sending lots of peace love hugs and prayers form all of us
    Mogggggggs...
    You need a vacation!
I certainly do not want to add to your stress but is there any way you can give your girl some SQ fluids? I wish you lived by me I would come do it for you!!
It could really improve her overall "feeling" --again I know you are exhausted... do you have someone that S. likes that can come help you?

Mogs, I'm sorry to hear things aren't as awesome as you and the kitties deserve. But as you said, the water was a top off, not a fill up. That's a bright side. I know it's tough (I know how much you've been through). You do need a vacation! I wish we lived nearby. If nothing else, we could take turns crying on each other's shoulders! Just know that we're here for you!!

I am relieved to hear that things are looking up in the Shire, Mogs!

Sorry I have been AOL for a day... I had to crash and burn for health reasons. Except for caring for Dottie & Gizmo, I pretty much vegged out.

Soo Saoirse is eating again? WONDERFUL! And Lùnasa too? That make everything double-wowser! Now if we can only get YOU feeling human again, we'll all breath a sigh of relief. How have the three of you been doing this Tuesday?

Today Dottie managed a few bites of solid food! I am beginning to think most of her mouth problems come from the very back of the mouth where the joint of upper and lower jaws come together. The vet may have overstretched her mouth during surgery and done some muscle damage . The rest of her misery misery come from her having to relearn how to manipulate her food... No teeth means her tongue flops around and gets pinched during her attempts to swallow... Creating muscle spasms.

At any rate... She's not flinching when I feed her. She'finally beginniing to purr again tooo! We havent heard that for weeks.

Mogs, is Saoirse being allowed short jaunts about your home yet? Exercise will help her whole body heal. Total bed rest complicates our own human recovery, and the same holds true for kitties too. Don't let Saoirse's other muscles atrophy..she needs to move about in order to heal, as do you,or a secondary affliction like lung problems, may begin to lurk in the background.

Here's to the health of your babies, as well as your own well-being! By the time you read this it will be early evening in the Shire. Have you eaten today? Where's that cabbie? If you are tired can you get some grub through him? Something nice and hot, to top off your day.

Right now as I type this Dottie is on my lap, snoring . Another good sign.. She's in deep sleep, healing sleep. Is Saoirse sleeping deeply?

As always here is a big fat hug for you and yours! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Moggy, hope all is well with you and Saoirse. I found this picture of The Comforting Kitty and it made me think of you, going through all that you have lately, and all that you go through every day. comforting kitty.gif At first I thought the kitty was all black, but if you ignore the faint stripes on it's back it could still be Saoirse! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Saoirse must be feeling better, I hope you are too Mogs. Goof has a bladder infection and the liquid anti b's don't work well as he spits most of it out. So now I'm giving him pills and that seems to working better. I bought a pill pusher that uses water, works MUCH better! Goof doesn't like it AT ALL, but it gets the job done.

I got it on eBay. Under the "pet supplies" category, type in "water pill gun".

Boy, they're a LOT cheaper now than when I bought mine!

    Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for your messages. I've not been able to post an update till now because Saoirse, while better than she was, still has a ways to go and I'm afraid if I write anything positive I'll jinx things. It has been a really scary time. I'm still scared, to tell you nothing but the truth. After such a roller coaster I'm extremely worried about my girl all the time. For example she was very good yesterday but tonight she was constipated and threw up when trying to go to the loo. I need to ring the vet about it in the morning. I hope he can pop out to the house to examine her: I really, really don't want her to have the stress of another visit to the practice.

I've managed to get Saoirse back onto a regular insulin dosing schedule again and her BG is currently sitting just above the normal range.

I hope you'll all keep Saoirse in your prayers and thoughts. Sorry I can't write more just now. I'm really scared again. It's so hard having to do all the baby steps to get Saoirse back onto her maintenance regimen because the process is so slow. After all the ups and downs I'm petrified of doing anything for fear of doing something wrong. :(

Sending scritches for all kitties and :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: for all beans.

If a little vomit and some constipation are the worst of your concerns at the moment given everything that you've just gone through, I'd say you're doing pretty darn fantastic :) Continued positive thoughts, get well wishes, and anti-jinx wards!

:facepalm:The constipation and vomiting might be more to stress than anything else now. ;) At least I hope that's all it is, Mogs. :bighug::bighug::bighug: Is Saoirse well enough you can ease up, just a little, on anything that goes into her belly? Sometimes there's a pendulum reaction, as a living body swings back and forth, trying to find 'normal' again, and symptoms might vacillate.. all her gut might need is a little rest from everything, good meds included. A mini-fast, with just enough food to keep her balanced with insulin. It's up to you, since you know Saoirse better than anyone in the world. :)

I'm glad to hear her BG numbers are almost normal..they're certainly way better than they were a week or so ago. And how's Saoirse's eye? Is the swelling down? Or can't you say, since the jinx-monster may be lurking about? If so, just don't say anything...to us, no news will become good news:p There's more than one way to skin a jinx-monster. We are all so anxious for Saoirse and you.

And how are you? Are your 'numbers' more normal?...that is, are you able to get a bit of deep sleep, and enjoy eating something instead of just going through the motions? Is the sun out in your world, there across the pond? We've had abnormally Spring-y weather here in Lower Slobbovia, (also known as Western New York State).....so perhaps it's pleasant for you in The Shire, as well. Get those windows open if the temperature allows, to get fresh air in, and let the bad air demons out! Perhaps that jinx-monster will take a wrong turn and ooze out through the mesh of a window screen, and leave your family alone!

If the weather IS nice, try to get outside for at least ten minutes a day, to get some sunlight into your eyes. Your body clock may be in danger of stalling out, making you tired and anxious. I know if I don't get a bit of sun in my eyes...I become a giant version of a slug..just putting one foot in front of the other is a monumental task. Or... If you have a full spectrum bulb at home, park yourself in front of it for a few minutes each day, about three feet away. You don't need to stare into that light...just read a book for a few minutes, so the light will bounce off the page and be a tiny bit diluted.

You're in everyone's prayers, gifts of light, and healing vines. By now you must be surrounded by so many healing vines that the next gift you'll need is a machete, :Dso you can clear paths to the front door and windows! Here's a couple more hugs to add to all the clutter:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: We all love ya!

Thinking of you and Saoirse. Hope she is feeling a bit less under the weather and able to go to the bathroom a little bit easier. Thank you for always being there for me and Shaak. It means a lot to us. We all have to pray together and I am still praying the Novena as well.

I know how you feel Mogs, I still feel like I let my little Mouse down. But the doc says I did everything I could and more than most people would have. I guess it's just human nature to feel like we should be able to do SOMETHING MORE!

Considering your own problems, I (and everyone else on this board) feel that you've gone "above and beyond" the call of duty. Saoirse is very lucky/blessed to have you for her bean! :bighug::cat::bighug::cat::bighug::cat:

    Dear Mogs,
I've been following this thread and reading about your struggles and I have to say that you've impressed me so much with your dedication to your beloved kitties.
I'm going to continue following it and sending you very positive vines and hopefully supporting you.
Many of wonderful people here have really hard time looking after sick cats and it is very difficult.
My share of troubles with Rocky almost sent me to mental hospital as I have to cope with other problems as well and it feels like the whole world is trying to ground me.
I really feel for you, I hope you've got somebody who could wrap their arms around you and tell you everything is going to be all right.
I am sending prayers and lots of love and hugs.
Please share your struggles with us if it is helping you.
    Take care :cat::cat::cat::bighug::bighug::bighug:

PS. Rocky is doing quite well at the moment so I feel better:)

Mogs, you know that I, and everyone else here, are thinking only good thoughts for you and Saoirse. You are doing a great job - Saoirse has made it through all this serious medical turmoil! She may still be recovering, but it sounds like the worse is over. I'll assume her eye is healing now. Her glucose is in better control. All good news! Now please take care of yourself. Eat better. Try to sleep better. Take a few deep breaths. We care about you, too!

    Dear Mogs,
I haven't been on the Board in quite a awhile and am just catching up. Wow, you have been thru the wringer lately!! (That may be the understatement of the century.)

Mogs...we can only do so much for anything or anyone. We have to remember that we're humans, not gods.
We have to remember that even with all of the knowledge in the world, even those fully trained and with all of the equipment and staff available, they can only do so much too.
Most of all, it's important to remember that a lot of what goes on, in spite of all our research and knowledge, isn't necessarily all in our control.
What is meant to be, will be. What isn't, won't.

I know what it's like to be afraid and not be able to make everything "all better" for someone or a much loved pet.
Sometimes, it's just love and what we *can* do that makes the difference. Waiting is the hardest part. Sometimes, it's pure torture.

One thing is for sure. Saoirse is loved, cared for and you are doing FAR more than a lot of people would do. She's one lucky kitty to have you as her mom.

I know that it gets us down to see our fur babies not well but, I know, with all that's in me, you are doing the very best that you can to help her get well...and, you're doing a beautiful job! Trust in that. Even when you're feeling down, tired, scared, anxious and need some time for yourself or, don't feel that you can do what you think you should do, you ARE doing all that's needed, really and need to pat yourself on the back for your dedication and love for her.

Please know that there's not one of us in here who don't somehow doubt that what we're doing for them is enough. We ALL feel that way. We ALL feel helpless at times and we ALL feel as though we *should* be doing more...even when we've been told that we're doing all that is necessary. We ALL keep thinking..."there must be MORE that I can do!" We have ALL felt...."if only I could....(fill in the blank)" or....."I wish that I could....(fill in the blank)". Most of all, we ALL fear, "losing" our furry children if we don't "do the right things". Every single one of us, understands that. Heck, I panic if my babies don't eat enough in a day even when they're doing everything else ok. LOL

So, bottom line to what I'm saying here, Mogs is.....

LIGHTEN UP ON YOURSELF!!!!!!! GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK FROM THE BEATING YOU'RE GIVING YOURSELF. IT'S NOT ALL UP TO YOU AND NOT ALL IS IN YOUR POWER!!!

Ok, I've said it. Easier said than done but, necessary to not crack up. Heck....I'm put together some days with duct tape! LOL ;)

Vine for you and Saoirse :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::kiss::kiss:

    Hi Mogs,

I had to drop by to say hello and let you know I think of you and the kitties often. Did someone say Saoirse had been playing?!?!! Wow, that's awesome!!! I'd love to see a current pic of her someday when you are up to it...I enjoy those a great deal. Saoirse in her little tent and that sweet pic of Lùnasa in her hammock actually made me lol...too cute for words.

Peek-a-Boo had a bath today. I wash him with my WEN hair cleansing conditioner. Sure the heck does nothing outstanding for my hair...so it's his shampoo. This cat absolutely dreads getting his claws clipped, ears cleaned, paws soaked from stepping in his pee clumps...you name it. But he LOVES being submerged in water. Isn't that bizarre?! A blind cat loving a bath...I don't even have to hold him in the wash tub. My mother jokes with me (lovingly, of course) and says he loves water so much because he looks like something that came from a swamp...ha, mom...not funny!!:p

How has the weather been over there? We had some Spring like days last week and I had Peeks outside for a short time. The warm weather also brings out the motorcycles, and it never fails that one will go by when he is out. I carry him around the yard and let him smell the trees and bushes. When he was smelling the bird feeder, he got a sunflower seed hull stuck on his tongue...silly cat.

Hugs to you Mogs :bighug::bighug::bighug: and lots of scritches to the kitties.

    Dawn
