I can't figure this one out. Jester ate just over 1/2 can in the morning with his insulin.
Fasting +4 was around 250 and he still wasn't interested in eating.
PMPS was 155 - I waited for him to eat and he snarfed down more than a can of carby food before his dosage.
Finished off the rest of the second can not long after.
So imagine my surprise at an 88 +5.
I *was* about to go to bed.
Now I'm hovering around Jester because Sage is doing the same.

He bounced back up to 302 this morning and was still being a bit fussy about eating. I decided not to bother with lower carb stuff at all this time and went straight for the shreds.

While he did eat more than he had during weekday mornings this past week, it still wasn't more than half a can.

I'm starting to wonder if Jester is bouncing because of the food / fast situation.

    Pre-bed (+5 fasting for 3 hours) was 88, today's AMPS was 302, and his +5 (also 3 hour fast) was 115.

    Any thoughts?

Anyone think Jester might do better with 1.75U or even 1.5U instead of 2U

Greens make me happy. Although blue is one of my favorite colors. Not for the SS though.

My thoughts: The bounce is not caused by the fasting situation. Since he likes his food it would be nice if he could graze--so he wouldn't scarf down his food. But I would only recommend the grazing suggestion if it was Pate only;however, since he won't eat it then it really isn't a realistic option.

You won't know the outcome of the dose adjustment without suffice data to follow.
But let another vet give their opinion.

I know you've told us this before, but your evening test is 2 hours before you shoot, right? Or do you test/feed/shoot 2 hours early at night? That could be the cause of his being higher in the morning...if you test 2 hours early and then shoot at the normal time at night, that could also be the cause. You're getting a number that isn't the "true" preshot number since it's 2 hours before the actual daytime dose wearing off. So he might normally be higher at night.

I don't honestly think it's the food situation. I think it's more of a combo of he's a bouncy cat, and the schedule.

Yes, testing is earlier. But more like 90 minutes. Dosage is usually 12 hours apart.

Friday was accurate as I ran errands before coming home.

EDIT - Friday was indeed accurate, but after a PMPS of 133 and waiting a bit (including consulting here), his reduced dosage was late.

AMPS was 198 and Jester ate way more this morning, almost a full can - probably because I didn't try to push him into eating pate. He was much happier and more willing to eat because of that.

Also decided to take a chance on 1U instead of 2U even with a BG of nearly 200. I wish there was a way to check his BG long-distance during days like this.

    Here's a weird thing.
    Jester's AMPS was 198.
His +11 (instead of PMPS) was 198......

I know we all like those green numbers. But I do worry about Jester possibly going low when I'm not home if he won't eat enough before I leave. (Of course he *did* eat more today, but I'd already given him his AM dosage.)

He got his PM dosage of 2U just under 12 hours from his AM dose because I saw him heading to his favorite hard to reach snoozing place after he got a nice full belly.
Planning to check him at +5 and do the same all week long to see how this works out.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results today with the 1U / 2U dosing.

While Jester was just barely under 200 for both his morning and evening BGs, it was still under. And his +5 was 155.

    Weird thing #2:
    This morning's AMPS was 287.
    Tonight's +11 was 286.
Hmmm, I mused. Yesterday's AMPS and +11 were exactly the same- 198. This can't be right.
So I grabbed another strip, poked Jester's other ear and rechecked.
    This time it was 287.
Yep - exactly what his AMPS was.

"We're gettin' into a whole weird area, here."

@Djamila @Kris & Teasel @Rachel - have you ever seen anything like that before? If this happens again tomorrow, it'll be *very* strange indeed.

And here we go again. +5 with a three hour fast was 74. I double checked right away and the BG was almost exactly the same.
Gave Jester some carby stuff which he's slowly munching and keeping me stuck standing next to him so Sage can't eat it out from under his nose.
I *was* hoping to get to sleep before midnight.
    Not likely now....

Simple answer is it looks like the 1 u in the daytime is a little low and the 2 u at night is a bit high. You could try 1.25 u in the AM and 1.75 u in the PM. Food does influence BG but focusing on it a lot can create extra complexities in treating FD. Short of giving snacks to prop up a too low BG and removing food for 2 hours before the PS (to the extent possible within your schedule) try feeding him in your normal fashion and leave it at that. The BG tests we take when doing a curve, for example, are done within the normal day's routine and that includes the kitty's normal eating patterns.

And remember that your PMPS is early...so likely the number would be different if taken later. More evidence that he needs a tiny boost during the day!

I'm actually planning to try this over the weekend. Saturday I'm going to be out from about Noon until about 6:00PM so it'll be fairly close to what Jester goes through during the week, but I'll be on hand in the morning hours so I can check his BG.
If I can force myself to ignore his pleas for food after he eats his usual weekday amount on Saturday morning until I leave, while checking his BG at +3 and +5, that would give me a good idea of how he might do during the week on that dosage.

Morning meals have been a smidgen less frustrating since I stopped trying to get him to eat pates, btw - we go straight for the medium carb shreds and he eats about 5/6 of a can over the course of the morning before I leave. (He's still ravenous when I get home, though. I've been pushing very hard so his evening BG is +11.)

However my previous post was about the weird duplication of his BG two days in a row.
198 at both AMPS and +11 on Monday.
287 at both AMPS and +11 on Tuesday.

Actually, nowadays I check him with about a three hour fast. I just feel like it gives me a more accurate reading considering the carb content of the shreds and how long he goes without food after his morning dosage while I'm gone. Pre-bed / +5 every night this week.
But last night was the first green for that check all this week. The rest were in the mid-100s.

Okay. Jester's AMPS was 263, PMPS (yes, it was really a PMPS at the right time) was nearly 294, and back to the mid-100s tonight on his 3-hour fasting +5 / pre-bed test.

While I'm still thinking of increasing his AM dosage a smidge, overall his PM dosage seems good.

This weekend I'll give the new dosage a try and see what it does for him overall.

Kind of quiet so far. It's a small office and still very new - they're still working on getting clients. So I get to ease into everything pretty slowly and casually.

I hate being away from my babies though.
Co-workers are nice. I'm just not used to being around folks this much anymore. More used to hanging out with my kitties all day long. *g*

Jester's AMPS was 304 so I decided to take a chance on eyeballing 1.25 since he's been so good about eating nearly a full can of food all this week.

And, of course, today, instead of about 5/6 of the can he only ate about 3/4 of the can.

    ::::sigh::::

I had a choir rehearsal tonight at 6:00PM so we needed to shift things a bit after work.
Jester got a +10 instead of a PMPS - 247 - and I had to give him his insulin a little less than an hour early.

Good thing is that it looks like he was none the worse for wear on the extra .25 of insulin - at least what I eyeballed as 1.25.
