Okay, we did it. We shot the lowest number yet for Grandpa. He's dropped a bit at +1. It's tempting to break out the MC food, but he had a full breakfast an hour ago. We will keep an eye on him.

Vomiting and BG dropping. He's drinking a lot of water and seemed to want to poo but didn't produce much. Even though we've soaked the S&C nuggets in water, I wonder if they are dehydrating him. So now we're trying to get him to eat something to keep his numbers up.

Nice job shooting your lowest yet. The +1 is looking like this is going to be an active cycle so I hope he will eat some for you. I would give him a tsp or so of LC to see if he will surf for you and then get a +2

Thanks. Unfortunately he has had a couple episodes of vomiting this morning. After one of them, he was willing to lick some gravy. He dropped to 70 on the AT so I gave him a bit of HC. He wasn't too hungry, but it brought him up to 87. I'll keep testing.

Poor Grandpa! Is the vomiting due to the masses?

I am really hoping not, but it's probably related. The vomiting is what made me go to the vet back in June when they found the masses. It was about a month after trying to limit him to two meals a day. When we added snacks, the vomiting went away.

We've gone through a couple more episodes of vomiting/not eating/feeling lousy and each time we wonder if he's at the end, but he rallies and is back to his old self within a few days. He reminds me of a dog I had with hemangiosarcoma who had the exact same symptoms including a swollen abdomen during bad periods She rallied whenever the small tumors would burst and absorb.

With Grandpa we experiment with food, give fluids, and basically nurse him through the episode, hoping he wakes me up with his bright eyes and demanding food. Adding in insulin just makes things more interesting and challenging.

No interest in cat food, but cold pizza got his attention. He doesn't have the teeth to bite it off, but he tried. Trixie, the dog, got the piece he gummed. Never a dull moment.

First full day that I know of with all blues and greens. He's been dropping over the past couple hours and will only pick at his snacks so I'm going to set the alarm and check later. I'm hoping he will follow the pattern from this morning and start going up now that we're past +4. I hope his tummy feels better tomorrow!

    Goodnight!

Ugh. He's at 66 on the AlphaTrak 2. He had the rest of the juice from the Fussie Cat and ate some of the shredded meat in it.

Hi Beck, I see NS today. That was the safest thing to do since he is not eating right now for you.

Does he seem nauseous? If so do you have any thing to give him for that like Cerenia?

Hi. Thanks. We debated and debated what to do, but even if he eats enough to raise his numbers a little, he starts dropping again within 30 min.

We give him famotidine every morning, and we gave Cerenia last night. I plan to repeat that today. The local BBQ place has some beef they cooked without seasonings added. My roommate just went to pick some up for him to try.

He just doesn't feel well. Today is his last Baytril so maybe his stomach will settle. It breaks my heart.

UGH, I know how seeing one of our babies not feel well is so very hard. I hope he'll be interested in the beef. Hopefully, he has had beef before without issues. Bubba vomits it up within 20 minutes of eating it so it's off his list of proteins.

Oh no! Grandpa vomits chicken so I thought I'd try this. Last week he had roast beef a few times from a sandwich and loved it.

Maybe he'll do fine with it. Since he is vomiting proteins he usually eats right now, it might be hard for you to know if it is an issue for him. But, it's worth a try.

Have you seen the list helping kitties eat? It was a list that Jill complied and there are some really helpful ideas to try

-sometimes in order to get a cat to eat you even have to resort to dry it is more important that they eat. there are a couple low carb / grain free brands -- EVO and wellness core. * I have added Young Again Zero Carb
-making a buffet to give him choices
    sprinkle food with :
    - forta flora -- a probiotic you can get at vets or online. is very smelly and cats love the taste of it.
    - heating food
    - parm. cheese
    - smashed crumbles of dry food
    - bonito tuna flakes
    - halo chicken treats -- crumble into dust over food
    - poor a little water from tuna in water over food ( I use low sodium/no sodium added as other kinds in water has veg. broth in it and I assume that means onions, which are toxic to cats-- check labels)
-powdered oregano. yep sounds weird . but some cats like it and it will entice them to eat.
other ideas of foods to offer your kitty to stim appy:
    - trader joe tuna for cats
-baby food -- beechnut turkey and broth or chicken and broth. they have no onions or other additives. some babyfoods have onions . please read labels if you can't find beechnut.

My go to are baby food chicken or turkey, and sprinkling florti flora on top of the food or YA dry.

Thanks! We do several of these, but I haven't tried several others. Definitely worth a try. We have a couple pet food stores that carry large assortments of foods. I need to make a restock trip to one this weekend. My roommate has marked carb percentages on the tops of the foods we have so we can customize our buffet offerings.

Here's the current Grandpa market, not counting his hypo kit which is separate.

Well, he is a very lucky kitty to have such a well appointed pantry for all his needs and a well organized momma and roommate!

I hope something on the list I sent helps. :bighug:
