Yesterday: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/2-19-max-amps-406-puking-again-help.210932/ Better pre-shot number! Max got his 5.5 units, his Zobaline and had some breakfast. I heard him drinking water as well. He REALLY likes the FF and Rachael Ray classic broth packets. I'll need to keep some on hand for when he's feeling picky. Anyone know carb content on those? No more vomit last night and only a small bit of bile this morning. Full abdominal ultrasound at 6pm today. Fingers and paws crossed for good news! I'll keep you guys updated!
I'm so glad you posted as I have been wondering how Max is doing and why all the vomiting. Please post when you get the results of the U/S I don't know the content of the Rachel Ray, maybe it's listed in the food chart. I know the FF are all listed. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/dr-pierson-new-food-chart.174147/
No Rachael Ray and no FF broth packets. It looks like they don't have any of the supplemental stuff, only actual food. =[
You can try calling the companies and requested a breakdown. Make sure you write down exactly how they say it, ie: dry matter or as fed. I could never wrap my mind around how to calculate carbs but there are peeps here that know how to do it. One of which is Marje and Gracie. After you find out you can post and tag her to help you.
Max looks very close to my Olive. Glad to hear he is keeping food down. Prayers for ultrasound. Did they say if he has to be fasting? Some require it, some don't
Good luck with the ultrasound, I hope it provides the answers you need. Scritches for Max. Jones always had to fast for an ultrasound.
Well, Max was having a pretty good day until just now. He had an extra smelly poop in the box and keeps going in and out. I scooped up a fecal sample to bring to the vet later. He vomited, and now he's walking around complaining like he does when something is wrong. Heck, if he keeps it up I maybe just bring him in sooner.
Max is 85 @ +6, I gave him a little beef+gravy....he's acting pretty weird. Think I'm gonna brave the roads and bring him in here in a little bit. He's still wanting to go in and out of the litter box. Had a big pee this morning so I'm pretty sure he's not blocked. I think it's something with his stomach.
He's quiet and resting right now. Gonna let him rest for as long as he'll rest before stressing him out with the car ride and hospital visit. The temperature is supposed to continue to rise outside as well, so hopefully the roads will only get better and better. I still think I'm going to bring him in early and see if they can give him some fluids, wipe off his bottom and let him chill out in a cage until ultrasound time.
He's had an awful day today. Just miserable with the vomiting and the diarrhea. I suspect colitis or inflammation somewhere other than the pancreas (suspect pancreatitis too). I hope it's nothing to do with the liver or kidneys because that's really scary stuff. I dropped him off early so he could get settled. They cleaned up his messy bottom, gave him some subQ fluids and are running a stool sample. They're also doing another round of the blood work they did nine or ten days ago just to see if anything got worse. I didn't ask for any specific p-titis testing since they're going to be doing a full body ultrasound and possibly some biopsies. I'll keep you posted with results!
Max, you're such a good, brave kittyman! I hope the doctor figures out what to do to help you so that you're feeline all better really soon.
Vet just called. Max's blood work came back the same as last time, so nothing got worse. Kidneys, liver, colon, intestines all look relatively normal. Right side of the pancreas looks normal. Left is all messed up they said. Totally out of shape and inflamed. They said it could either be focalized pancreatitis or the start of pancreatic cancer. They're going to treat heavily for symptoms with more Cerenia, buprenex, fluids to give me at home and some medicine for diarrhea. They want to do another ultrasound in 4-6 weeks to see if the pancreas has gotten worse and shows signs of cancer (in which case they'll do an asipirate to be sure) or if the problem has resolved, which should happen if it's only focalized pancreatitis. They said a biopsy at this point is not recommended because it could actually make things worse. So the real nerve-wracking test will be in a month or so. Let's hope it's just a bad flare of pancreatitis!!
I agree with Wendy, strange to wish for pancreatitis, but that would be better than the alternative. It will be a long month for you. I hope everything they gave Max has him feeling better soon!
Oh, gosh. Of course I wish he didn't have it. Poor guy is miserable. They just gave me two likely possibilites: pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer. I'm hoping for the lesser of the two evils. They're giving me anti-nausea and pain medicine to help alleviate his symptoms while it (hopefully) resolves.
I just realized I misread both your comments, haha. I thought you were saying I was strange for wanting it to be pancreatitis. I was thinking....well I have to pick one! Lol, oops.
I hope it's just pancreatitis too. Hopefully the treatments get Max feeling better soon. Sending prayers.
If the drugs you were given don’t stop the vomiting ask for an RX for ondansetron. I wouldn’t wait too long either. I hope he feels better quickly.
Cerenia seemed to work really well for him last time. I just ran out and couldn't get anymore, but they're stocking me up this time.
I’m glad you got the ultrasound. You are doing so well for Max. Hope he just gets better from here. Out of curiosity, what medication was Max prescribed for diarrhea?
I'm just catching up - so sorry to hear you and Max had a rough day yesterday. I hope the meds are helping him feel better. Sending you vines and hugs...that's tough....
What dose of Cerenia is prescribed? You can now get it through Chewy Pharmacy. I always got it through KV Supply (it was the best pricing I found) If you put the tablet (unsealed in the foil) in the freezer for 10-20 min they cut better (won't crumble quite as bad) Prayer I hate pancreatitis. Such a cruel disease.
