    Yesterday's thread: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/2-21-max-amps-580-3-441-w-photo.211001/

Why so low?! I expected him to be high for a few days because of the missed shot on Wednesday. Should I be worried? I have to work today so I chickened out and gave him only 5 units (chicken, sorry!) and left out some MC with his LC. I might come home and check on my lunch if they'll let me. Wish I could stall or get a +2!

Maybe he is feeling better/not in as much pain?! Nice to see the blue.

Can you get a +1 before you head out?

Hope you have a good day.

Oh...it's so nice to see him in that nice blue jacket! I'm hoping this is a sign that either his meds are working or he's just feeling better! Either way - it's good news. Somehow you're going to have to be brave and find a way to be comfortable with leaving him when getting lower numbers....I hope he'll level off and surf safely today...or just hang out at the beach with Luci...they can have some of Bella's cattini's..those are always good :) Just think he'll be chillaxin on the beach while you're working...in Bella's Tiki Hut. @Bellasmom - have you got a pic of Bella's tiki hut to show Sarah? I think you may have posted that before she and Max joined us here on the boards... Thanks :)

Have a good day Sarah...hope they'll let you check on him around mid-day.:bighug:

Olive is on duty at the hut this morning. Max being new gets a free one today, so Max put down your favorite towel or box and stay awhile.

Ugh, he's pretty high now. I need to start being braver when he starts off with lower numbers. It's just so nerve-wracking when I have to leave!

Did you retest the AMPS. Whenever you get an usually lower number or higher, it's a good idea to retest right away as it could have been a wonky number . If that AMPS was correct, it could be that he was nadiring really late ( the end of the cycle) . Without any test last night it's a guess.

The reduction this AM from 5.5 to 5 is probably not responsible for the higher number at +5. The depot is still at play and often a reduction like that doesn't show until later on. Looks like he's bouncing from hitting a blue. Glad you didn't skip the shot because the 168 is a nice safe number, but I do understand your concern since you had to leave for work. It is great that you are able to come home at lunchtime if it's needed.

This dose is looking good so far even though the depot hasn't filled in again from the NS. See on 2/20 AM cycle how he hit those nice lower blues on the 6th cycle which is when we expect a dose to be stable. Since the NS he got 2 cycles of 5.5 and made it back to a blue again so that is great news!

Maybe you can get some more tests in tonight and this weekend so this dose can show what it can do.

I'm not one of those people who get weekends off. My two days off can be any day of the week--it always changes and they're not usually together. =[

I hope you can get Max's BG down. When Ravan got diagnosed with Diabetes a year ago he was in High BG a LOT. Just like you I was afraid he might drop too low when i wasn't home or asleep.
Five months later he was diagnosed with Kidney disease. Even now when he bounces he leaks urine when his BG goes high. I think letting him be in High #'s too long damaged his kidneys. I found this information on the internet:
"The higher the blood sugar, the more sugar comes out in the urine. If your kidneys are normal, this usually isn't a problem, but if you have diabetes, too much sugar can cause kidney damage. ... Uncontrolled diabetes can damage the blood vessels of the kidney and destroy the kidney's filters."

I guess not every cat will develop Kidney disease from diabetes but I wish now I would have been more aggressive & got his BG down a lot sooner.

He's dropped to the 40's quite a few times & I just give him a spoon of 5 or 8% carbs & his Bg comes up. He's gone down into 30's & then I get out the 15% FF . Now days I'm more worried about the Kidney disease.:(

(You can check out his SS from 2018)

Paying for individual doses of bupe is robbery. See if you can get a prescription and get it done at a compounding pharmacy. That’s how I got chicken flavour. Canadian prices probably not relevant, but in line with what Paula paid,

Ask them if they made a mistake on the price. That's insane.

No they didnt. When she was giving me the estimate we talked about it and I asked her if there were any other options and she said "not really". @Wendy&Neko, it isn't in individual doses, just four small plastic vials they made up themselves.

I'm supposed to give him 0.17 mls every 8-12 hrs for 4-6 weeks for pain. Is that too long to be giving it? They did say they were going to "treat heavily" for symptoms until his next ultrasound. He seems to be responding pretty well to it but I don't want to put any stress on his liver or anything.

You can give bupe indefinitely. How can 2 mLs last you 4 to 6 weeks?? That's just 11 doses if I'm correct and 5 days worth if you dose every 12 hours. If Max is in pain, then every 8 hours is best.

If you need to buy it again, I'd ask for a prescription and call a compounding pharmacy. It may be cheaper. That is ridiculous.

The amount they gave me is only enough for 2 weeks, ha! I couldn't believe the price either. It was LITERALLY almost half the entire bill. I'll definitely be looking at other places. What are some compound pharmacies I can look into?

    Compound Pharmacy

Diamondback - use to get Smokey's there. I don't remember the cost it was years ago. Dr ordered 60 ml at a time for me.

    Stokes- never got bupre there

Wedgwood - I get other meds there but not bupre

    Allivet

    Pet care Rx

    1800petmeds

    Pet health pharmacy

    Valley Vet pharmacy

And chewy but I don't think they will have bupre.

I agree with @Bobbie And Bubba the 0.5u reduction in the dose is unlikely to have resulted in the higher numbers you came back to. It's more likely that what you are seeing is a bounce from the drop into the blue.
The depot on a 5.5u dose is pretty hefty and would have kept him swimming along.
