These three weeks of work are AWFUL (60-70 hours/week) for me so I will probably fall behind on updates. Buddy seems to be back to normal. I have not restarted insulin because his numbers are still really low for him and are pretty good.

I should probably start him back on a really low dose of insulin (.1 ??) but my concern is my long hours and lack of ability to properly monitor for the next two weeks. Any thoughts?

On top of all the Buddy drama, two weeks ago I was able to trap a dog that had been running loose ALL OVER TOWN since the beginning of March but nobody, including me, could ever touch her - much less catch her. Over several feedings, I was able to lure her into my sunroom and shut the door on her last Sunday.

As my luck would have it (and as I suspected), she was pregnant. Friday afternoon I came home to four adorable (and VERY large puppies). I have always altered my pets so I've never gone through any type of litter. It's pretty darn amazing and sweet! With that said, she is the perfect reason why spaying/neutering is so important. The last thing I need to care for right now is 4 puppies but taking her to the shelter and having her spayed (and babies terminated) was not an option I would even consider. I'm a sucker - which is why I have way too many pets.

Not a cat pic but thought I'd share my "newborns" and their sweet momma. 20190504_162737 (2).jpg Puppies 2.jpg 20190504_141832.jpg

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

OMG Kelly!!! they are adorable!!! even if they are not kittens.:joyful:

Momma is lucky you took her in. I hope you manage to find homes for the puppies.... or are they staying with you?

All things considered and given that all the tests you've gotten lately are in decent numbers, (below 120) I would probably continue as you are doing. Keep monitoring his BG daily and if you see it creep up reassess.

Thanks, Gill! I am committed to keeping the puppies for the recommended 8 weeks but then I will have to find them GREAT homes. The shelter said they could easily place puppies but I hope to do that on my own (so I can be very picky about who gets them). I will probably keep end up keeping momma dog ("Luna") because she's clearly had enough trauma in her life. If the right home came along, I would let her go but it would have to be a home that would pamper her. :)

I wish I could keep all the puppies, lol, but I already have 2 dogs, 7 indoor cats, 1 outdoor feral, and 2 feral kittens that I trapped at work last Fall. I brought them home to handle/socialize them and guess how that turned out??? They will likely be permanent residents in my house (bringing me up to 9 cats; YIKES, I AM the crazy cat lady). This is why Buddy always has access to "no-no" food...dog food, puppy food (for Luna), cat food, and kitten food. It is a real challenge to keep him away from 10 other food bowls. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'm with you on staying the course on insulin. Hoping he can ride this out but, if not, I will be on summer break in 3 weeks so I'll have more time to be home and monitor BG levels if insulin is restarted.

LOL I have 6 cats (4 indoor, two outdoor that neighbour abandoned them when they moved) and two dogs. Keeping BFG away from no go food is challenging, I totally get your pain. Usually it's not too bad as the indoor cats are on LC (but not Low P), and the dogs live outside in their kennels, or in the office with DH, with BFG's advancing years he doesn't often venture out though we have had a couple of kibble raids over the years.

Luna looks sweet, she seems like an old girl, she's lucky she found you. I get you wanting to vet new homes, wishing you the best of luck in finding forever homes for them. With all the other civies, they should be well socialized by the time it comes to finding the new homes.

Hi Kelly! First, I am so happy to be reading the good news about Buddy. I missed your last post and it is so amazing his turn around!

Second: You are amazing with you love and devotion to Buddy and then taking on a pregnant dog and puppies. Luna found his savior that day! The puppies are so adorable! Something about puppies! I hope Luna will be an amazing companion to you and your family. And I hope that your work hours diminish soon.

Something related, there was a dog in our area that was a stray for years and all the local animal lovers knew of her but no one could catch her. They finally did and she ended up with my mom who loved her dearly and turned out to be a really good dog, she just needed someone to be patient with her until she could trust someone. Hopefully will be the same with Luna. I think they want to have someone to take care of them, just unfortunate if they have had a hard time and are skittish. You will get there.:bighug:

Are you keeping the momma dog?

I agree! What kinda person doesn't neuter her then tosses her out when she gets pregnant!:arghh:

I have a new neighbor that puts her cat out every night. It comes in my yard & pees on my patio door (he's not neutered) My cats go nuts meowing & all agitated at 2AM. I told her, her cat might get hit by a car or a coyote might kill it. She replied, that's OK I'll just get another one!o_O

Kelly, you're an angel for taking her in. She would have been out there, no food, no water and brand new puppies... She's so lucky you found each other. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
