Just got switched by a new vet from novolin N to prozinc. He gets massive doses of novolin, 12 twice a day and 5 when needed. Anyone have any advice on what to expect? The vet told me it might be more effective and last longer, but she has me only giving him 2 units twice a day. I'm afraid this will be wayyyy to little and he already has pretty bad neuropathy in his hind legs. My poor guy....

Hi again, i answered your welcome thread and I see you had some answers in your acro thread. The best thing you can do to help us advise you is to set up the spreadsheet. Here’s the link again, if you need help just ask and we’ll do it for you http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/
A drop to 2u from 12 is a lot, please be sure to check Smokey for ketones. Have you started the prozinc yet? What kind of numbers are you seeing? Are you getting both Preshot and midcycle tests?

Hello and welcome.while I cannot comment on what the difference in dosing would be between Novolin and Prozinc I can say that Zobaline seems to help with neuropathy. You can buy it direct from ilifelink.com. Worth a try....

I will look into the spreadsheet! I am pleasantly surprised at his glucose levels so far. He is staying around mid 200's to mid 300s. I am seeing my vet again this week and will have to increase his dose. Considering he was getting 24+ units of novolin every 24hrs and he was around 250 with high spikes here and there, I am very impressed with prozinc. He is only getting 4 units a day and he isn't spiking like he used to on novolin! I do realize that U-40 is a lot more per unit. 2 units of it equals about 6 units of U-100. But it's working well so far. I'm not going to get too excited cuz it's still early. Thanks for ur insight. I need to spend some time and get his ketones tested, the acro blood test done, the spreadsheet, etc etc. I dont have a lot of money or free time right now, but my boy is very important to me so I am going to figure something out! Thanks again for ur help!

Thanks so much. I think that's what other people suggested for neuropathy, unless there is another one that works well... I will look for the other post, but pretty sure that's what they said cured 99 percent of their cats neuropathy.

    Hi everyone,
My cat Tanner is 12 years old and is diabetic. I give him insulin 2x a day as told by his vet and changed his food to Purina DM. He has been walking on his hocks and it has become worse. When he uses the litter he sits and gets the urine and poop all over his backside. I clean him constantly and even give him baths so he can feel and look clean. Lately, he does not let me clean him and hisses at me whenever I touch his butt to clean him, I think he might be irritated or in pain. I am trying everything I can to make him comfortable so he can feel better. I saw a forum on Zobaline and it said that it works for this condition. Can someone please tell me if this is true and has anyone personally experienced where their cat can't walk and this medicine has helped?

Hi @Claudia Cruz welcome! You will draw more attention to your questions if you start your own thread. As for the Zobaline, it does help, but getting Tanners glucose under control is the most important thing. We have many tips and tricks to help you do that while saving money. Please start a thread either here (if you use Prozinc) or in the Main Health Forum so we can help you get Tanner to feeling better.

Hello, my boy smokey is also on his haunches. He used to have horrible diarrhea and would mess all over himself as well. I started giving him a half pill of imodium (1mg) every 3 days or so. No more diarrhea all over him. If he has normal poop then I wouldn't suggest doing this. If its soft, try a smaller dose of imodium to make things less messy. Also keep the litter level high in the box. Too low and the urine will "pool" more and be more likely to get on ur cat. These changes have made a HUGE difference for my cat who is in the same boat as ur kittie. If u can, talk to a vet about the imodium dosing, but it's very safe in cats, it can cause some excitability when first starting his regime, but it's very minimal if at all. And tanner is probably just tired of u cleaning him all the time. Might be telling u to back off! But could be some pain also. The less stress for him the better. Please try what I have suggested, and givet the zobaline a try.

I also wanted to suggest a high quality litter. Purina tidy cats works well. I have used cheaper litter and it seems to make the urine spread more while he is peeing, and would seem to stick more readily to his fur. I dont miss the days of having to cut out litter from his haunches/ or trying to clean off wet litter. Not fun!!! For him especially!!!!

    Hello,
My apologies for writing on this thread. I just joined yesterday and don’t know how to create my own thread yet. I’m just looking for help from someone that might have experienced what tanner is going through. Tanners glucose is under control I monitor and give him insulin twice a day. Someone did respond to my concern and gave me helpful information.

    Thanks
