I made a post asking some questions about Adequan a few weeks ago, I have been using Cosequin and Omega 3 fish oil for my civie for weeks with no effect. I've asked my vet twice now about prescribing him Adequan and they basically hemmed and hawed about it and said they would get back with me (they haven't).

I found it available on my vet's online shop and I'd like to purchase it, but I kinda don't feel like my vet will be very helpful in how to use.

Are there standard dosing instructions or does it depend on the cat?
It says injections are intramuscular but I'm seeing others do it sub Q. Which is it?
What syringes do you use? I have both U-40 and U-100s, would either of those work?

Yes it's sub q. Originally it was intermuscular but can be done either way. The dose is based on the cats weight. I believe you can use u100

Thank you! If I purchase Adequan via my vet's online store is this something I could use without going in to see my vet about it (ie just read the bottle/instructions)? I'd obviously go in if I need actual veterinary advice before use, I'm just tired of the run-around from them.

You'll need to get him to approve the perscription. The dosage is double the weight. If
    your cat is 10 pounds-
you double the weight so you have 20
she would get 0.20 on a 1ml syringe

    I have 1mL U-40s, if dose was .20 would that be 20u?

    No, for a U40 syringe 0.2 ml would be (20/2.5) 8 units on a U40 Syringe

No that's only for u100. To save confusion I would get some of the properly sized syringes.

Thank you, I always get thrown for a loop when math is involved, sorry. So my boy is 11 lbs, meaning 0.22 mL = 8.8u on a U-40? My U-100s are 3/10 cc so I would need 1cc instead right? My vet approved the Adequan purchase but there's no syringes listed for them. If there's a different type of syringe I should just get instead please let me know!

Im sorry I am just checking this--yes you can give the shot at home I have been doing it for years. As long as you know the dose and adjust if gain or loses weight
I would make sure you have the syringe and needles you are comfortable with.
If you need either or many other things this company has many items that you won't need a script for.

Thanks so much! We just received our Adequan yesterday - it was $85 for one 5mL vial but I used a coupon that put it at $65 which seems to be standard price for one.

One place was saying every four days for a month, another says 2x a week for a month. I think it ultimately ends up the same? And then 1x a week for another month, and then 1x a month?
The instructions on my vial says not to puncture more than ten times and then throw away the vial but I haven't seen anyone mention that limitation here, do I literally need to toss the bottle after 10 injections or is it fine?

I puncture my vials a lot more than 10 times each.

I did a shot every 4 days for 8 shots then 1x a month and as they aged every 3 weeks-2 weeks and now as true seniors weekly even 4 days apart in the winter.
