Hi guys im back for some advice. @MrWorfMen's Mom @Rachel @Djamila @Elizabeth and Bertie Hope your kitties are all doing well. Sox has been doing so well the last few months with no insulin since end of December. We've had a few ups and downs with his blood sugar levels since but he's brought them back down on his own. He's averaged at a weight of 6kg in that time too, but have noticed over the past week his weight has dropped from 6kg to 5.6kg. No change to his diet (still the same food and same amounts) His bloods sugars were also 7.1 this morning. Now that wouldn't really have bothered me too much as he's done that in the past but because it's come at the same time as him loosing weight that concerns me a little. Where's best to go from here? Monitor f weight and bloods for a few days? My bottle of insulin is 9 months old, so that will be no good now will it for if I need to start using it again? Thanks guys
I wouldn't panic about a 7.1. If he continues to lose wait a trip to the vet might tell about other things like kidneys, teeth issues, or other issues that can effect weight.
@JanetNJ yeah the 7.1 doesn't really bother me too much as we've done this in the past with the higher spike now and then. It was just that mixed with the quick weight loss which worried me abit. The weather here has been warm recently and wondered if that could affect him.
He's still eating the same amount of food. So that's why I'm suprised he's lost weight. Maybe keep a check on his weight over the next week?
If your concerned and want to have it checked go for it. When was the last time he had blood work done?
No increased appetite? I know you said he is eating the same, but is he acting hungry and wanting more? Any increased thirst/urination? If these symptoms are present but the glucose is fine, I always thing hyperthyroidism first and would want to get a blood test to rule that out.
No more than usual... He's always been a greedy cat though either way. Hard really to notice the drinking and peeing cause we have 3 other cats too
