10-9 (Yesterday). Good morning. I hope everyone had a safe and level evening! Kitties...you be good for your parents today! Have lots of beach fun and safely paddle in the lagoon! Your parents love and only want the best for you.
I'm trying a slight increase on Ittle beginning today. I tell ya, these older eyes may be wiser but, they sure don't see as well these days! 1.1 units is a challenging measurement even with the 10x optical loop I use. We did it though!
Moey's in the same ole same ole boat! I will be increasing him shortly. Maybe .6 unit for him or back to the .75 unit. He didn't do bad on the .75 unit, I just panicked a little with some lower PS values.
Anywho, I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I love your spreadsheets and notes. I am still in awe of the handling of two FD kitties.
BTW, I bought some of Dr. Elseys Clean Protein wet turkey and ALL six of my cats love it! I caught a sale on Chewy too!
Just adding a thought . . . When I tried my first reduction, after Tina going under 90, it didn't stick. I have gotten used to those lower numbers and they aren't as scary. The reduction numbers on TR have worked. You can also choose a modified reduction number, and make note of what you are doing (you could pick 60, 70 or 80, instead of 90, for example). I'm repeating what I was told!

Thank you for the compliments. I'm still trying to get the hang of the SS. It's a WIP(work in progress).
I'm very fortunate to have 2 wonderfully patient cats. They are both bottle babies so, they're very trusting of just about anything I do. They complain sometimes but, what cat doesn't!:cat:
Isn't it wonderful Dr. Elsey's is on sale!?! I'm going to stock up on a few of the LC formulas. They also have HC, which we need to get as well. Wouldn't it be lovely, to not have to use the HC! But, when we play the sugar dance, we have to be prepared for all the sudden moves! I'm thrilled your kitties love the Dr. Elsey's. It's really a decent food.
I plan on "modifying" one of the protocols. I would love to get their numbers between 68ish to 80-85. Here's hoping for a simple downward trend. Thanks for the advice! I'll get more confidence shooting the lower numbers eventually. Looking at everyone's SS I see it's very doable...just a lil frightening at first.
I hope you and "Ms. Blue eyes" have a wonderful day! Safe paddling!:)

    :joyful: Wouldn't we all!

I'd like to recommend that you purchase some calipers - I could not live without them! Especially for fine tuning.

Also, I'm wondering not increase by .25 - after those cycles (higher numbers) it looks like he would do ok with an increase of .25. Maybe it's just because I've never had much luck with shaving/increasing by fractions. Don't want to rush you...but sooner is better with these numbers...you're testing enough to stay on top of any sudden drops...:bighug:

Sorry I didn't test more today. I had to run to town to get more test strips. I'm burning through them my goodness! The closest Walmart is about 2 hrs round trip. I live in the boonies:rolleyes:
I wussed out giving Ittle the whole .25u increase...especially since I was running low on test strips. I'll do the full increase after the 3 day cycle, if I see no improvement in #'s. There's always hope that the small increase will work but, I'm doubtful.
What do you mean by calipers? My DH has digital calipers that he uses for measuring bolts etc. I wouldn't think that's what you're referring to. Just call me clueless:facepalm: 1 more question...what do y'all consider MC food...10-15% carb? HC is 15% and above? Such newbish questions lol!

Thanks Sue. I hope you had a great day today. I sure hope Luci was a good girl for you!

It is not recommended you do any modifications until you know the onset, nadir, and duration, and have a good understanding of how kitty responds to various carbs. Seems a little early in your Lantus journey to make customizations.

Yes, you have the carb percentages right. :)

Here is a post on dosing with calipers. I got a pair from DH. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/dosing-with-calipers-updated-w-videos.79851/

The modification I was referring to was shooting the lower # with Moey on 10-5. In the SLGS I should have reduced the dose that evening since he had 2 consecutive #'s below 90..correct? His PMPS was below 200 that evening(181) so, I should have reduced the evening dose or stalled. Well I shot that 181 with his normal .75u which would kinda put us heading toward the TR protocol, as far as shooting lower #'s than the SLGS protocol? I probably misinterpreted something in the SLGS protocol, as usual.:banghead: You're absolutely right...I don't have enough Lantus experience to truly modify anything. I just felt comfortable shooting that lower # oddly enough. But, the following night PMPS I couldn't shoot the lower # and reduced poor Moey's dose and ruined his progress:arghh: I definitely have a lot to learn. I've been trying to study the SS's for a pattern. It's mind boggling. Different nadirs, onsets, and duration etc. And for 2 cats.. Absolutely puzzling the difference....ECD is the truth! I'm trying to take notice of the food influence as well. I'll get there. Don't worry about me "modifying" because that word is being used loosely. If anything, I'm not keeping the kitties #'s in check enough because of my hesitation.
I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow Wendy. Thanks so much for checking in on us and caring! You rock.

There are two parts of the shooting lower numbers section of SLGS. The second one starts “with experience”. Over time, and with lots of data to know it's OK to do so, SLGS users can shoot anything above 90.

I had thought you were talking about lowering the reduction number. Sorry. You did right with Moey’s reduction. As far as shooting 181, it could be argued you have lots of experience handling low numbers. Much more than someone new to the diabetes dance.

You may want to consider a mail order service to deliver your strips. Although Walmart is close for me, I got tired of constantly chasing those strips - so I signed up for the OneDrop service. They send 300 strips at a time. Whenever I open a box of 300, I order another box. I still have to go to Walmart for syringes but that's a lot less often - thankfully! I doubt I'd drive two hours to buy anything at Walmart..ouch!

Here's the url for OneDrop: https://onedrop.today/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwpbry4KU5QIVwxx9Ch2BZAe-EAAYAyAAEgIZW_D_BwE

I also love the service - anything iffy happens with the meter and they send a replacement free of charge.
