as an appetite stimulant. I have 15mg tablets and my bottle says give 1/2 pill every 3 days. I know this is not the right dose, because I gave it to Buddy 1 other time and he was weird, I know he will be meowszy but he should not be weird.

I have been giving him Cyproheptadine, but it is not working at this time. I started with 1/4 of a pill and it worked, then when 1/4 of a pill did not work I gave him 1/2. Now 1/2 of a pill is not working. At 1 time I tried the Mirtazapine and it worked, but I am sure I gave him 1/2 of a pill. I know that some of you use Mirtazapine with good results, so I would like to know correct dose. Thank you.

I want to say I used 1/4 of a tablet with Gizmo. Can you call your vet?

I got this from my vet and it says give 1/2 of a 15mg tablet every 3 days. I tried this in the past and it was a problem. My vet's office was open until noon today and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
What I can find says 1.88 mg, how to cut up 15mg to 1.88 and how long does this last.

@Larry and Kitties - I think that's where she got the information. Thanks for the info on the frequency. This article indicates that the 1.88 dose can be given as often as daily but other places seem to suggest every other day dosing, as Larry noted.

Do you have any blank gelcaps? You can cut the pill in half -- that's 7.5 mg. Cut the half in half -- that's 3.75 mg. I'd smash the 7.5 mg then divide it in half and put the halves into separate gelcaps.

You can get a pill cutter at any pharmacy and they are likely to have gelcaps there, as well.

I have various sizes of gelcaps and lots of pill splitters and at least 1 pill smasher. My boy Buddy has taken more than his fare share of medicine and he has needed it cut up and smashed and lots of ways, but I must say it is tricky to cut up a pill into that any pieces.
