I see the spreadsheet is missing some preshot values, as well as some night cycle tests a few days back. If you can continue with getting all preshots and at least one other each cycle, I think you can increase.

As for the second question, a cat's dose needs can change over time for many reasons. Plus with some cycles missing data, it's hard to say he didn't go lower then and you just spotted the bouncing.

Good luck with the increase. You don’t need to post the SS link each day. You just need to link the previous condo no matter when it was.

condo = threat or post. We call them condo's, cause that's where our cats hang out. :)

Haha that is too cute also while im here. I found a article saying that shooting a dropping number is a good opportunity for the overlap? What would that mean exactly? Because today Garfields alleged nadir was his pre shot and now at +3 he is at half his preshoot number so I fed him a spoonfull of food to avoid him dropping to fast. Ill be testing again at +5 but will have to go to bed after that

    • Open the previous day’s condo
    • Copy the browser address
    • Start a new condo
    • Put your cursor In the first text box, type a title like “yesterday” or the date and highlight it
    • Click on the hyperlink icon (looks like a paper clip) above the text box
    • Paste the browser address you copied into the box that opens
    • Click “insert”.

Yes, once you understand the difference between a dropping number and a second dip and you know your cat’s onset, nadir, and duration.

A dropping number is when the BG drops all during the cycle, often due to a bounce clearing, so the nadir is at +12. Overlap is where duration from the previous cycle extends into the next. Overlap can result in numbers staying flat or dropping more. A second dip is when the nadir occurs during the cycle, then the BG comes up towards the end but then dips back down +11/+12 but not lower than the nadir.

Good to feed some LC and retest if he’s dropping at +3.

Garfield looks like he's breaking a bounce today. That can get downward momentum, even into the cycle tonight.

The goal with Lantus (and Basaglar and Levemir) is to ultimately get nice flat cycles. If a kitty is flat or even dropping into preshot, the ideal is that the numbers will stay that way until onset of the next cycle. Thus providing nice flat cycles. OK, Marge described it in more detail above.
    • Carryover - insulin effects lasting past the insulin's official duration
    • Overlap - the period of time when the effect of one insulin shot is diminishing and the next insulin shot is taking effect

I'll re-read all that tomorrow. I find it a bit complicated and hard to understand. You are all so smart and knowledgeable about this stuff! I definitely understand wanting a flat cycle though

Clearly the 1.50 hit him hard for him to go from 15 pre shoot to 2.9 at +6? I thought it would take until like tomorrow for the extra .25 to kick in

Have you given him some food to bring him up a bit. Some low carb should probably be enough carbs as it's +6 and test again in 30 mins.

Hello Bron! I freaked out and fed him something a bit higher carb. In 40mins he went up to 4.2. Why is he going so low so fast :( and why did the extra .25 kick in so fast?

If I understand correctly his preshot was a dropping number is this why he went low so fast?

It looks as if he has come off the bounce and when cats do that, they often drop quite fast.
He is quite safe, just keep testing until he rises a bit further.

The 7.4@+3 was a heads up that it was going to be an active cycle and luckily you tested further which was the correct thing to do.
That's why it's always a good idea to get a +2 or a before bed test, as that will give you a heads up ....if the +2 or the before bed test is much the same or lower than the preshot, then you know that the cycle will most likely be an active on and you need to test further.
    Does that make sense?

Yes completely! I was affraid that without feeding him he would go even lower then 2.9. Im testing again in 15mins if its higher then 4.2 ill be going to bed. I just wish at some point his numbers would be somewhat stable :( his bouncing is really hard to deal with.

you must feed him if he is dropping like he did to 2.9. You did the correct thing. Clearing bounces cycles often play out like this one.
I would get a couple of more tests in as they are food influenced at the moment.

I don’t know what happened with that last post, repeating what I already posted. My iPad is playing up and the internet is still not great.

Please don’t worry about it. It’s all a learning curve. When I first had to deal with a low number like that, I had the whole house awake at 1am to move cars out of the driveway so I could go to the ER! Fortunately Sheba decided she would go back up.
I think with it at 7.2 you are fine to go to bed!

If you start getting a +2 and or a before bed test you will be able to see how he goes at night.
He bounces a bit but not for long so you can be on the lookout for breaking bounces cycles. A lot of cats bounce especially when first diagnosed.
Hang in there. You are doing really well.

Yes I can imagine how scared you must of been :(. He has been diabetic for 8 years and still bounces allot haha but to be honest we didnt test at home I had no idea how important it was. At this point not even hoping for remission just hoping for stable numbers and a healthy cat ❤️

Should I have fed him more than a spoonfull at +3? Maybe then he wouldn't have dropped as fast?

If I don't answer it's because I doze off but will answer and update you in the morning. Thank you very much for your help! :)

If you look at the SS from about 22/11, you will see that each time Garfield has dropped to green numbers, he has shot up and bounced. On 2 occasions he bounced for 3 cycles and for one he bounced for 1 1/2 cycles before dropping down again. He also bounces from the blue numbers.
Watch the cycles (especially the second and third cycles of a bounce) and if you can see he is dropping down (if you get a +2 or a before bed test this will help you see what the cycle may be like) and if you think he is dropping low, then check more frequently and give some low carb food to "feed the curve" and let him come down more gently.
If you can help stop the fast drops, that will help stop the bouncing.
Some cats are bouncers. Sheba was a real bouncer and diver. Some cats bounce all the way to remission.
You are just new to testing, even though he is not a new diabetic, you are just now seeing what the BG levels do.
The more he can get into the lower numbers, the more his body will get used to these lower numbers and hopefully the bouncing will ease off or stop.
