You need to learn to shoot these numbers and he’s on the way up. I’d shoot 2.75u and get a +1 and +2.

I’m glad you started a new thread. I linked the previous one in your first post. Let’s stay with this thread now and you can edit the subject title to something less scary like “Brady’s PZ Dosing 2” or whatever you wish. Thanks!

You’ll do great and I’m around. Just be sure you have plenty of HC food/gravy and some karo or honey although that is just a precaution that everyone should do. It doesn’t mean you’ll need it.

And you have plenty of testing supplies, yes?

Lastly, I want to remind you that you’ve shot dropping blue numbers before so this should not scare you.:woot:

Marje's right, you do need to learn to shoot those lower pre-shots, scary as they are. Plus, the PMPS was rising from the AM +9 and +10 tests.

If Brady drops lower than that 180 at pre-shot, don't reach for that 25% carb food first thing (or the honey or corn syrup). You need to start with his regular low carb food first, to bring the numbers up slowly and safely.

If you resort to high carb food at the first sign of low numbers, he's going to bounce harder and faster with the high carb food.

Know you are really scared of hypo's Pat. But you need to get Brady into better healing numbers, in the greens (<99 mg/dL) for his pancreas to heal.

p.s. Just catching myself up now. Been busy all morning and afternoon with other things.

I just want to clarify this. HC food does not cause bouncing. What “can” happen is it can cause the brakes to be quickly applied on duration. When that happens, the BG shoots up quickly (many mistake this for a bounce when it is loss of duration). Subsequently, kitty may very well bounce on top of the loss of duration and so the bounce can look even worse.

If I even get a glass of wine, it won’t be a long night for me :p:D:D I’ll be out like a light :woot:

I’d suggest that you get the +1 and post first before you do anything else. Then we can help you with what to feed. You got this!

I was wondering where you were hiding...…..

If he falls below that 180, at what point would you start to feed him his regular carb food...and that question came from my wife, lol, needless to say she is worried too, haha....so can you give us a point where food would be given, this is new water for us?

This is why I’d like you to post after the +1. It depends on whether he has a food spike at +1, how much, etc. I’m assuming you fed him his regular LC food at PMPS, yes?

That would be so much better than one neighbor we have now!

Sounds good. This might be a nonevent. That’s a pretty decent food spike but we’ll see once he onsets.

Why is he always hungry???? I mean he just ate about a 5.5 ounce can of food and he is looking for more again....he does this a lot?

Do you think im feeding him enough? He was a 19lb cat not so long ago and now about 16.5, does that play a role in his hunger, do I feed him calories for what he is now or what he was before he was diagnosed? I just feel like he is always wanting food?

I can and I’m not trying to play games but this term is in the stickys and we’ve discussed it before in term of onset, nadir, duration. Does that help?

This is something I need you to learn about Brady.
For what he is now unless he is really thin. If he’s at his ideal weight and 19 lb was chunky, then you want to feed him for his ideal weight and maintain him there. Here is Dr. Lisa’s formula:

Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70

Using that, if he’s at his optimal lean body weight, he needs roughly 294 cal/day. To find out if that is too much or too little, weigh him, feed him that for about ten days, weigh him again (same conditions as in same time of day, before breakfast, etc). If he lost weight and didn’t need to, give him more calories. If he gained weight and didn’t need to, cut the calories down by a small amount and try again until he’s holding his weight.

There are conditions that can cause a cat to be ravenous but I don’t want to go there yet with him as we have no indication we need to. But.....I will say my little, tiny Livia feels like she is “underfed” although she’s not always begging for food or tearing anything up trying to get to it like we’ve seen some cats here. Liv is at a perfect weight. My vet said, “well, I’m hungry all the time, too, but if I ate to assuage my hunger, I’d be a blimp”.

Ok...I found it...honestly I thought that is what you meant by onset...Hey, I know one thing there is a lot of terminology and trust me im trying to keep track of it all but sometimes I don't know if you are using the terminology from the forum or trying to explain something else to me, sorry I really am trying to keep track of all of this.....still really new even if it has been over 2 months....and I don't mind you letting me have it when I forget something, its how I can learn...thank you

I do my absolute best to only use terminology from the forum. If not, I’ll definitely explain it.

Yes, I could have easily defined it for you but we also have to teach because one day, we all have to spread those wings! I’m not saying anytime soon but it does happen. Or, Deb might be off the site for a bit and I might be traveling when things get back to normal because it is typical for us to be gone a couple times a year for a month. I need to be sure you know where to find information.

I still have clipped wings and cant fly, just saying.....but im getting there...I actually look at other peoples questions and see if I can answer them before I actually read what someone responds with when giving advice...I get close on some and others not so close....

Well he is at 262, still climbing a little...going to check at +4 when he gets his 1/4 before bed.....hope it goes well.....

And Deb can't be on 24/7, as much as that may grieve people. :(

I take care of everything around my home myself, all the home maintenance except for really big projects like replacing the roof and do all my own landscaping. I'm an avid gardener, and it's that time of year where my 2 page to-do list from last year needs to be attended to. Plus, I do all my own shopping, cooking and cleaning. No take out meals for me, even before the virus. Plus take care of my own cat and feed the birds, and take the trash and recycles to the transfer station, and those hundreds of other things that are part of life's responsibilities and joys.

Takes longer when there isn't a second person to lend a hand with things every day. Imagine if you were doing everything your wife did, plus all that you do Pat, plus taking care of Brady. Where would you find the time, you might start asking yourself.

    I completely agree.

Just stick with LC food for now. It’s not even time to put on the coffee!

    Yep. Great job.

Can you please change the subject title so people don’t think you still need help? Anything...like “Brady PZ Thread 2” or whatever but it’s usually courteous to always take down a “help” in a thread title once you’ve gotten help. Thank you!
