Hello everyone! I meant to do this a few days ago but things have been a bit stressful and busy this week :banghead: I've been keeping Jonas's SS updated and trying to get tests in when I can, but still not as many as I would have liked. Of course he has been up for hours this morning but when I got free from a meeting to poke him, he's sound asleep and I don't have it in me to disturb him!!

I thought we were entering a better stretch but he's been in the 300s most of the last two days :( I'm planning to hold him at 3.75U a little bit longer but I think we might be going up to 4 soon. He's a bit constipated today but I'm trying not to worry (what a joke, all I do is worry :p) too much since he had a normal BM yesterday. Besides that he's been super playful with his toys, had a great appetite, and watched birds outside for quite a while from his favorite window spot.

316 at +6.5, I am more than ready for more yellows and eventually blues! I thought he was going to sleep some more but he's carrying toys around and meowing, and currently enjoying a bath from one of his sisters.

393 at PMPS :( Sometimes it's like 3.75U is no different than 3 was.

On a good note: he had a small BM so I'm feeling a bit better about that, and this boy has literally played ALL. DAY. LONG. I don't know how he hasn't exhausted himself, he was finally sleeping (and snoring) when I got him for his PMPS. Hopefully he will go back to napping, he needs it :)

Jonas is ready for an increase now. There is no reason to hold that 3.75U dose. You need to get him into better numbers, so he feels better.
My suggestion would be to bump him up to 4U next cycle, and monitor.

Do you add any plain canned pumpkin to his food? That can help with the constipation. Or a tiny dose of Miralax (or generic) starting with 1/8 teaspoon. Or some psyllium husk fiber can help with constipation.

Great, I'm glad you think it's okay to go ahead and do an increase <3 I hated to wait out the whole week. We'll do that in the morning and at least it's a Saturday so monitoring will be much easier.

I don't have any on me, but my dad is going to be doing a grocery run tomorrow and drop some things off for me so I'll have him pick up some pumpkin to try. Do they generally eat it pretty easily?

Some cats really like the pumpkin, some don't. You want your dad to pick you up some plain canned pumpkin, not the pie filling, no sugar or sweeteners or spices.
You can freeze what you won't use right away in ice cube trays, pop the cubes of pumpkin out into a ziploc bag once frozen, and pull out what you need for a few days.

Try the pumpkin alone to start. I think the dose starts with 1 teaspoon and goes up from there, but it's been so long, I can't remember exactly. You may need to mix it with a bit of food to get Jonas to eat it.

The pumpkin can also help firm up more loose stools. Works for both constipation and diarrhea.

Thank you SO much for the advice!! I’ll make sure he gets the plain pumpkin and we’ll give it a shot, one of his brothers has IBS so maybe it’ll help him too :) Jonas did have a bigger BM last night that was a little soft so either way I’d like to try it.

He was 394 at AMPS so officially trying him on 4U! He was on this before (blindly of course :banghead:) so I’m hoping he’ll do well on it again.

141 at +10!!! I'm so proud of him!!! He seems to have fairly late nadirs for the most part. I'm a little unsure of how much to give him come time for his shot, but we have a couple hours to go still.

    Down into the mid-range blues!
Never count your chickens before they hatch. Or never anticipate the pre-shot test before it happens. Unless your or my crystal ball is working.

Betting that the pre-shot will be yellow, which is what Jonas tends to do when he drops to the blues.

you are so right... my crystal ball is NEVER working because I always think the worst is going to happen and, generally (thankfully!) it doesn’t.

If he does end up in the yellows, what would your advice be? Before I’ve generally stalled for an hour until I was sure he was rising well. I’m definitely more comfortable shooting in the morning but I’ve got to get past that.

In the yellows? Shoot the full dose.
If you aren't quite sure, test him 30 minutes BEFORE pre-shot, at +11.5 and then again at pre-shot test time.
Yes, but it's super scary to shoot those low numbers. You can always get a +2, to see how Jonas's BG numbers are trending, and then maybe set an alarm if you need to test him later.

He’s at 131  AWESOME number but not at all what I expected at shot time... shouldn’t he have gone back up some?

So sorry for the disappearance Deb, my mom had some issues with her own health condition and I was tending to her. I didn't see your message in time but I will do that the next time he's in lower pre-shot numbers. I went off the SLGS dosing guidelines I printed out and even though he wasn't a little under the 150-200 mark, I went with feeding as usual and retesting. He was at 256 at +13 so I gave him a slightly lowered dose... I am probably a big chicken for not doing more, LOL. I hope it won't set him back too much after his awesome day. He has slept and generally chilled a lot today since he was all over the place yesterday so he hasn't had as many mid-day snacks as usual either, so I wonder if that could've been keeping him lower as well. I am trying my best to learn him and how he reacts under different circumstances.

Thanks so much Deb, I appreciate it <3 She's better now and Joe had a great day despite some not great numbers, I'm afraid because of my chicken shot :banghead: But I'm hoping he'll be back on track soon. He was 358 at PMPS and I went ahead and gave him 4U. I'm a little nervous since this is the first time giving him 4U at night but I'm going to be able to get a +2 and +4 before bed for sure and I'll set an alarm during the night if it's needed.

Glad to hear your mom is better.

I'm sure that Jonas will get back on track. A not so playful day today, but all of the other 5 P's sound good. (Purring, preening, peeing, pooping, playing). Those 5 things plus the appetite give you a good idea of how Jonas is doing.

Sometimes, we focus on the numbers and forget to ask how the cat and caregiver are feeling. How are YOU doing Whitney?

Good idea to get at least one ketone test a day, since Jonas's appetite is not always the best and the ketones have been increasing slightly.

He seemed to perk up a lot today from how lazy he was yesterday :) He got all 5 P's in today so I am trying to focus on that! He has also eaten more like himself today which I hope will keep the ketones at bay. I was very distraught to see the rise since last time but he didn't drink or eat as much yesterday combined with going a bit higher last night. He's done much better today and I'll definitely retest him for them tomorrow so I can keep a close eye on them. He ate some ocean whitefish purebites and got a nice drink after his +2 check just now.

I'm trying my best <3 I appreciate you asking. My anxiety has been super bad, I am constantly checking on him... seeing issues that aren't there and worrying too much as always, lol. Seeing him act more like himself today helped a lot. I was super worried yesterday but he was literally up for hours on Friday without taking a single nap, and did a lot of playing during that time. So it's logical he was more tired yesterday... but my brain still runs away with illogical thoughts all the time. I'm a bit nervous having given him 4U at night for the first time, but surely he couldn't go hypo? He's 313 at +2 and I'll stay up until +4 to see where we're at.

286 at +4! I think he'll be fine but I'll probably set an alarm for a +7, hopefully that would be a good indicator? His sometimes-late nadirs kinda confuse me

AMPS was 472 :( My mom thinks he could've gotten into some contraband that belonged to one of his siblings that she forgot to put up before she went to bed. He's acting GREAT though, he woke me up playing last night and he's eaten much more, he absolutely devoured breakfast. I'll check his ketones when I get a short break between meetings in a bit (Mondays are absolutely a disaster ugh) and pray they're going down!

KETONES WENT BACK TO .2!!!! :cat: So they aren't rising. I'm so relieved. I was holding my breath while the 10 seconds counted down.

Ketones going back DOWN, Down, down! is a good sign.

Contraband will spike the BG levels, as will those bounces.

I'm still not very versed in bounces but I definitely think he's experiencing one from his pretty blues on Saturday, 428 at PMPS :banghead: But he's had an absolutely wonderful, active, playful day and has eaten well and pottied well, so I can't complain about that at least <3
