So at Biscuits last post he had had dental work, then he seemed to be going up again. Took him back for a recheck and they told us he was healing fine. Still continued drooling and over next few weeks began slower eating. Took him back in Monday 6/22. They said he either has an abscess or maybe cancer in the mouth. They prescribed clindamycin 1 ml every 12 hours and Bupe 0.18 ml every 12 hours for pain.

So now it's thursday night, and his eating is still sluggish except for lunch today where he ate a full 3oz can (normally we feed him 4 times a day 1/2 a can at a time - but when he ate the first 1.5 really fast I gave him the rest and he ate 95% of it).... But his preshots have been trending down. and where normally I'd shot a 79 no problem, know he would eat some HC gravy if necessary.. I'm worried.

Should I do the full shot and hope he'll at least lick the gravy? I am also supposed to do his next pain meds and I worry those lower BG too. Right now I am right at shot time.

    Thoughts?

Waited a short bit for a reply. Gave his pain meds and antibiotics. He ate about 0.75 oz (1/2 of 1/2 can) - mixed in a small tsp of HC with rest of food to maybe offset. (we have some 8 and 11% but he's not a huge fan of those so I don't use them when he's not eating well) Went ahead and gave his shot 45 mins late. I'll test in an hour to see where we are at.

Sorry no one got to you sooner. I would definitely get a +1 and a +2 to see what the BG is doing.
You can always feed some higher carb food to bring the BG up higher if it drops early on in the cycle as you need a bit of a safety net with the numbers not dropping too low early in the cycle.

I hope his mouth heals up soon.. poor fellow. Must be miserable for him

I hope the fact that he ate means he has an infection that is responding to the antibiotic.

Me too. I keep praying that the reduced BG numbers mean he’s getting better on the antibiotic. We go back for a recheck in a week.
