06/26/2020 Morning! Nice start for Melly Moo today! he has been really tired lately, no doubt dealing with the pain from his dental surgery. I am struggling giving him his antibiotics, they prescribed 'antirobe aquadrops' and they taste really bad and make him salivate a lot, I always make sure before I give them to him that his food is already prepared so he can get the taste out of his mouth quickly but honestly.. I feel more cruel giving him these drops than a pill :O Fingers crossed our boy gets some energy back soon! Have a great week folks

Can you put the drops in the Delectable Squeeze Up treats. It would only be a small dab. Or can't they be mixed with food?
Poor Mowgli. I hate having to give bad tasting liquid. I hope he continues to recover quickly. Sending prayers.
That's something i could try, but if he doesn't like it i don't really have enough drops to waste, I know he wont eat it mixed with food because it is so bitter That's what I thought too... I mixed it in with his favorite liquid treat (tiki cat) but he wouldnt go near it! it's just too bitter... I didnt think of mixing it like Joy recommended and THEN putting it in a syringe to take some of the edge off... might be worth trying I know it's so awful... i give it to him and its so bitter he starts shaking his head and salivating everywhere... they warned me it would be like that but ... I would rather crush a pill into a treat and know he's going to eat it! I hope he continues to recover quickly too! Im hoping all the extra sleep means he's healing well... yesterday was his last day of pain meds so hopefully he isnt in too much pain today :|
So sorry you are dealing with this, Amanda! I really hope he's back to his old self very soon. And I hope you find a way to give his antibiotic that's less upsetting for both of you. Phoebe Squeak is getting her third type of antibiotic for her paw infection now -- first one she was OK with, second one she really didn't like the taste, and this 3rd one is labeled "cherry banana flavored" -- I guess it's supposed to be for kids. I wasn't sure what to expect, but to my surprise, she LOVES this one! Cats.
OMG JJ!! Phoebe Squeak is the BEST! of COURSE cherry banana is her favorite... who can blame her right!?
Poor Mowgli! I feel so bad when the vet says a medication tastes bad for the kitties. I wish they could flavor all of them! Mowgli is looking awesome today though!!
Antirobe/clindamycin is available as a pill as well. Maybe ask the vet about that. Are you giving probiotics too? Clindamycin (Antirobe) is hard on tummy flora - just had to take it myself. Give probiotics a couple hours apart from the Antirobe.
Yes, The vet prescribed fortiflora, so I am giving him that 1x/day and I already chatted with the vet to get more, he will be on antibiotics for 7 days (ending the morning of the 2nd), and then the vet originally wanted to keep him on the probiotics for 3 days past that for 10 days total... but I chatted with her and we decided to keep him going for a few days even past that... she said that antirobe is an awesome antibiotic but that it REALLY wipes everything out so she agreed that it would be a good idea to continue the fortiflora for a while past that. Thanks to everyone for your ideas... for now I am just torturing him by squirting it down his throat... always with a yummy liquid treat to wash it down .... I hope he doesnt develop a complex :O I feel guilty but I'd rather be cruel with antibiotics than for him to get an infection Thanks!! Im hoping these extractions will put him in a place where we might dream of the R word
Fortiflora isn't the best probiotic. It's a single strain. The more the merrier. https://www.ibdkitties.net/supplements/probiotics/
I have two toothless cats, Blaze being one of them, so I totally understand the struggle of trying to help your kitty after extractions. If gets easier! And Mowgli will be back to his normal self soon!
