Once again, it's been awhile since I posted. Ms. Freckles is doing fine. Unfortunately, I was dealing with my very ill dog of 14 years of age, Sadie (Border Collie). Sadie succumbed to very aggressive lung cancer (10 days from first onset of symptoms to when she was euthanized in our our home). We had 3 different vets give their opinion and all said the same thing - most likely lung cancer- less likely blastomycosis - both Dx have poor prognosis. It was a very, very sad day in our home. You couldn't ask for a more loyal, loving, faithful dog.

Still hard to believe that she is gone. Sadie is on the right. Lucie is on the left.

Yes, Sonia. Even with her breathing struggles, she followed me from room to room on her very last day. Such a loyal buddy.

Thank you Wendy. Yes, she was my heart dog. Sadie was born with full blown cataracts and at 6 months of age, she had the cataracts removed. She has repaid me 1000 times over for her to get her sight. I will never forget the day after the surgery... we were in Calgary going for a short walk up a hill. At the top of the hill, she looked over the ravine and then looked at me and back over the ravine as if to say, "Where the heck did this all come from?" :)

A month ago, she was running behind the quad and playing like normal. I felt very helpless for Sadie at the end. A close friend who lives quite a distance away is a vet and she told me to look at humane euthanasia as a medical treatment. When you have to and there are no other options, you go with the best treatment available. Even though it was terribly hard to do, it was the last kind thing I could do for my little girl. :(

As for Freckles' 38 - these critters certainly don't let you wallow in grief for any amount of time. There always seems to be somebody who needs my attention around here...

Thank you all for the kind words. It doesn't get any easier losing pets, regardless of how many you lose. Sadie was extra special to me as we went through a lot together - some not very good times but others were great. I sure miss her.
