Our first hypo: (cross posted from FB group)
This group saved my cat's life last night by encouraging me to home test.
A test of 59, out of the clear blue sky for a cat who has rarely tested below 200 since diagnosis in late February. I used the tools I learned about here: karo syrup, high carb food (prayer!) and got her back up to 107 before I had to leave her at midnight until 9:00 am this morning.
I hope I won't have this happen again. I have no idea what caused it. But she didn't appear "off" in the way her number would have suggested. If I had given her normal injection, I would probably have killed her.
Thank you everyone who has put together such a valuable resource on this page! Peaches and I say thank you!

Good catch last night. Was she showing any hypo symptoms? 59 on a Contour is a normal blood sugar number, not one we'd call low or that would cause hypo symptoms in most cats. But good that you were testing to know it would be safe to shoot. However, it does mean that 5 units is probably too high a dose. Have you looked at the Dosing Methods Sticky Notes over in the Prozinc forum?

Contour is a human blood glucose meter. Below 50 is the number where we really don't want them to go.

I agree with Wendy about 5 units might be too high of a dose

She earned a reduction anyway right? Or you mean even lower than 4.75?

I see you shot 5 units again this morning. Your kitty is bouncing from those greens last night. You need to reduce the dose of Prozinc if she drops under 90. As you have been going up in 1/2 unit increments I would reduce the dose to 4.5 units next dose otherwise you risk a repeat of last night.
