Link to old thread as requested. Don't mind the traffic cop, I find long threads annoying lol

So she's on 2.50U now and today is a good day. For her at least. I've been longing for sleep since I got up this morning. She dropped and PMPS yellow, close to blue. My guess is I won't get a good night's sleep.
I'm already anxious. But blue is great and the best thing for her. I keep reminding myself. I'll get up at +3 possibly +4, depending on her BG I'll test in the PM cycle later.

This time I won't decrease dosage on my own, I've promised Mauer that.

I'm expecting that the prozinc lower her BG for a time during the cycle, and then I expect a rise towards the next shot. But some days she's holding her BG quite long. Is that normal? I'm not complaining just wondering and eager to learn :D

I still have a small hope that she can go otj - awesome expression btw! - is that totally unreachable?

Thank you again. I don't know anyone who puts in so much effort to other peoples pets quality of life. It's simply amazing. :bighug:

Deep breath, hold, release, deep breath, hold, release.
Go do something fun for a bit, to help relieve your stress and anxiety. Connecting with nature helps me immensely.

Next best thing to blue is to see some greens for Mauer. Those are good too. Blues should not be scary for you. Blue is a great color, especially for a diabetic cat. Much better than those "raging reds" or the "stinky pinks" or the "screaming yellows". Blues and greens are cool, calming colors.

OTJ (off-the-juice, insulin being the juice) is achievable for many cats. So yes, it's reachable for Mauer.

Darn, Mauer is still bouncing up to those pink BG levels. Come on down Mauer!

p.s. Off to comet watch. Too many trees around my home to have any chance of seeing comet Neowise from home.

Nature is wonderful. Fun fact; today I'm painting a wall in my living room dark deep warm green. Green is calming.

The logical part of my brain knows blue is great. If we switch the pink out with blue her SS would be amazing!
    And she bounced last night.

I really hope we get there some day. Not that I mind or she mind the shots and poking, its actually so easy and every morning she jumps up the window for her BG test and raw food. But I would like to have time, and not being locked down on a schedule.
My best friend just gave birth to twins and I want to help her, and not having such a tight schedule so I can be there for her and the kids.

Hope you got to see the comet! Its a once in a lifetime chance.

Yes, I did get to see the comet.

Take just an hour or two for yourself, so you can help your best friend with her twins.

Edit: I jinxed it. We'll try again tomorrow!

I think it's time for a dose of 2.75U for Mauer. Numbers are still much too high.

    Anti-jink vibes being sent.

I've increased to 2.75U right away.

Blue! Mauer got some blue this cycle!
Now don't be surprised if Mauer jumps back up to higher numbers.
His body isn't used to those blues and needs time to adjust.

So not entirely there yet, but have seen blue!!
Her nadir must be quite late? I expected the prozinc to peak +3,4-ish.

I'm not as anxious as I thought I'd be. It's going well.
No news is good news :D

I have a feeling that Deb wants a increase to 3U, is that correct?

I've been painting with a friend, both living room and bedroom so possibly a bit more stress than usual for her.

Not all bad, her brother who has FIC spontaneously ate raw food! He's had absolutely no interest the past few months and suddenly he just ate.
I hope he keeps eating - he's actually gotten Mauers behavior, test in bedroom window then raw food and then shot. He follows her every move. So funny!
Point being: if he continues to eat raw like Mauer, I'll throw the dryfood as far away as possible! They both have free access to dry, Mauer eats almost noting. I fill hers every 10 days or so. He is a big dryfood eater. But sensitive to change so one tiny baby step at a time. I hope! Fingers crossed!

Nadirs with Prozinc are usually in the +5 to +7 hour timeframe. Some cats have a "double dip" and dip low later in the cycle, as well as at the earlier time.

Yes, I think an increase to 3U is warranted for Mauer.

More water in her FIC brother cats diet would be a good thing for the cystitis. Plus no dry food around, means Mauer can't sneak any when you aren't watching.

We had someone at the beginning of this year, that insisted their diabetic cat could not reach or be eating the other cats food. They got a camera, trained it on the high carb food location, and found out that yes, their diabetic cat WAS getting into the "contraband."

Of course a cat eats what he wants. Like walking on the kitchen table. Lol

But my cats have their own surefeeder with chip, so I'm actually a 100% sure that is not happening :D

I have a water fountain so plenty of fluids. I would mix it in the canned food but then he won't eat at all, but Mauer thinks extra fluids are heaven!
He is thankfully asymptomatic and have been for a long time, then he got constipated so I'm taking it slow.

I'll increase. And hold on to my hat and hope she doesn't die :nailbiting:

    Oh dear.
    PMPS 9,3-167 BLUE!
I'm so scared. Got violently nauseous when I decided to give her the full 3U dose, instead of being a chicken.
I shot her in the neck not shoulder as usual. Just because I'm a tiny bit chicken.
And I'm not sure if she should have had the full 3U.
I'll get absolutely no sleep. Fingers crossed and hope she doesn't die on me.

As long as you are there to test, you are in control and can feed Mauer some food to bring the BG levels up if you need to.
Remember to start with the regular low carb food first, only a teaspoon or so if Mauer drops into the low green numbers.

Yes, shooting on that blue pre-shot BG level was scary. But you and Mauer did just fine, not even getting down into the blue numbers during the PM cycle or down into the green numbers. All is safe with Mauer.

You did great Sasha! And the 3U dose was the right call for the evening (PM) cycle.

We almost hit blue again after the usual bounce at +2

I'm glad you think it was the right call.

She's also gaining weight. Seems like it's different from day to day

Thank you so much Deb! Don't know what I'd do without you.

    Houston we have blue!!!
    Three times in a row!

What stops a BG from flooring of insulin? Only the right dose?
Why don't we use short and long working insulin in cats on the same time?
She's been tired today. Just as me.

I'm so glad she didn't plummeted to the light green. Pheeew!
This is our first blue three times in a row!:D

There are some insulins that contain both a long and short acting component. Not sure they work all that well in cats. Most of them drop the BG levels too quickly and too fast as they onset. It's like there is too much of the fast acting component for a cat. Dogs may do better on these insulin types. I don't know of any of them that are recommended by the AAHA Guidelines for cats.

What do you mean by "flooring"?

I think you mean what keeps the BG from dropping too low, into those neon green BG levels. Sometimes, it's the dose, sometimes it's the intersection of the food with the insulin to balance out the onset of the insulin. Sometimes its a cat being less or more active. Sometimes it's the tiniest bit of difference in the amount of insulin that is drawn into the syringe and given to your cat.

It can be really hard to tell, what is going on.

Blue, blue, blue and then the dreaded bounce to a high number at pre-shot. Be patient and let's see how long it takes the bounce to clear.

p.s. I could use a nap too! These hot days working outside in my garden are very draining. But on the other hand, they keep me energized and centered and less worried about what is going on in the world.

Those questions were to calm my nerves, not raising my BP :nailbiting::eek:

Why the bounce? And the double dip? Is the two dips a sign of the pancreas is kicking in?

Yeah, the joy didn't last long. Totally surprising. Every single time I think we're there, it's been a good day, finally lowered without big jumps, or BG simply just going down slowly...she bounces.

I got a 3h nap, and then I couldn't sleep last night. :banghead:
Sounds like wonderful weather! Here it's been raining for weeks.
I hope you and your loved ones are safe. Where are you from?

Sorry, didn't mean to raise your BP.

Should I try to answer this, or are you contemplating and analyzing again? Putting your brain to work to try and figure out what is going on?

Patience. Wait out the bounce. It will probably take another cycle or two for Mauer's BG levels to adjust to the lows from the other day and to adjust to the dose increase.

I'm on the northeast coast of the US, in Massachusetts. We're in a moderate drought, so please tell your rain to move along and visit my gardens. :)

Since I'm from the US, I wouldn't even be allowed to visit Denmark. Safer for Europe if you keep people from the US out right now.
No national strategy here, means the virus is flaring up and is very serious in many states here.:(

I'm sure trying to analyze and understand what's going on.
It seems odd to me that the insulin is kicking in and then suddenly not, then working again. I'm a neard, I want to know everything :banghead:

I'll send my rain right away!!!
This July has been the one with most rain since...I don't know, 100 years maybe.
Would be awesome to get some sunshine for a change!:D

I know. Danish people is advised to stay home during the summer, and most are. It wouldn't have gone this far if people stayed home, or in their own countries.

We closed down pretty quickly and now on the final step to re-open everything. Today we've had as many new infected since the "big breakout" its nothing compared to yours. So my fear is we're closing down again. People start forgetting the guidelines with distance and is still going to work with a "cold".
I believe we're on of the few countries that don't require a face mask when we're in public. So I don't believe we've seen the worst yet.

I'm so sorry you're kinda left on your own. That your government didn't take it seriously and took precautions.
Glad to her you're safe and your loved ones too! :bighug:

Just read the sticky on bounces.
So a bounce is when her BG drops as usual, and the bounce is when it kicks back up, before the prozincs duration is up? So she's been high for so long, her body is hanging on to the sugar, cause it thinks her BG is too low?
I just don't understand why she's bouncing SO much. She's had more bouncing episodes than "normal" days. So bouncing is what is standing in my way to get her regulated and in the blues during cycle?
Is there anything I can do? How long does it usually take before a cat stops bouncing like a rollercoaster?

I won't fill her surefeeder with dryfood again. We're totally of dryfood now. Not that it's showing :banghead: shes been eating so little I'm not actually expecting it so show in her SS.
Raw and canned food only. And snacks.

I'm afraid its time for a dose increase?
    3.25U?

I'm buying you a beer, when its Mauers time to go otj, Deb. I promise!
Not if, when! I'm patient but she will get there.

Some cats bounce forever. All the way to remission.
Some cats never do become diet controlled.

The main goal, in my mind at least, is to get your cat feeling better and reduce the symptoms of diabetes. Less peeing, normal poops, playing again, purring again, preening (grooming) themselves again and a good appetite. Reducing any signs of diabetic neuropathy if that is present. Making sure your cat is eating enough so they don't burn body fat and muscle to produce energy (and have that lead to ketones and DKA).

Could I have glass of fruit juice instead?;)

    Seriously? Oh my..

She's gained weight and is fat again, pooping like always, pee depends on how low the prozinc can push her down that day, she's awake, always been purring as normal, and she cleans herself nicely as usual.
Shes been getting a little greasy tail the last few weeks though.

The only signs of the diabetes was a lot of peeing, and lots of sleeping and when I woke her, she seemed far away. And she wouldn't eat dryfood but that was because she had a bad tooth.

You can sure get a glass of fruit juice! Then I'll have a pepsi max with ice, yuuuum!

Should I increase to 3,25 or give her more time on the 3U?
I've seen a lot more blue, but now I understand the bouncing I see that when we don't reach blue its a bounce. And if a higher dose don't get her out of it, then it could be dangerous to keep increasing, right?

    How awful!
We're pulling back with the opening, we were at step 3 out of 4, now we got just as many infected as in the beginning pr day.
Maskes are recommended in public transport during rush-hour not elsewhere.
This might go really bad quite fast!!

@Deb & Wink I just bought a new vial of pzi so it might be more potent than the old one, right? So maybe clever to stick with the 3U a few more days?

Yes, stick with the 3U dose for a couple of cycles, to see if it makes a difference in the BG levels.
If not, then time for an increase.

I would not hold the 3U dose for too long, since Mauer needs to get back down to those blues and greens.

Massachusetts is in phase 3, but threatening to rollback a phase, because folks are out partying and spreading the virus. Lifeguards down on Cape Cod were the source of a major cluster outbreak just this past week. Careless, and we will all pay the price for their foolishness.

Not enough contact tracing happening, and the case numbers are creeping up again steadily.

    Exactly.
My hope was that people in general learns to stay home when they aren't feeling well. Even influenza kills, maybe not the young and healthy, but the weak and old ones. To go to work and infect the workplace is disrespectful to everyone, slows the healing process and the general efficiency on the workplace. Better to stay home, for everyone. That paycheck isn't more important than peoples lives.
This crisis only shows how selfish people are.

It seems to me that the younger generation doesn't seem to understand that it might not be them who gets sick and dies, and the reason for them to stay home isn't for their own sake but for their grandparents, parents, cronic ill people, their own loved ones.

My friends mom has been ind and out from the hospital for 2 months and tested negative, they thought it was her asthma. On Tuesday she got hospitalized again, cause she couldn't breathe. Positive, and doctors believe she's been positive the whole time. Since she was negative she's been living her life and seeing her family and friends...

Just breathe.... I remember my first greens. I nearly had a heat attack. Eventually you will get used to them and learn how to shoot on low PS numbers as well. I promise it gets easier. Low numbers can be scary but ultimately what we want and what she needs. . Hopefully she won’t bounce

I usually press ALT & Enter at the same time. Drops me down to the next line within the cell.

79! Going back up. Dear God.
Should I give the full new dose of 3.25U tonight? I won't be awake to test her all night like I've done today...

    You're doing a fantastic job!!

If @Deb & Wink is not around to advise any different follow the protocol.

    Your spreadsheet indicates SLGS:
"If kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L) decrease the dose by 0.25 unit immediately."

That will also depend on your PMPS number too. Mauer seems to be lovin' those greens right now. What's your no shoot number?

I dont have a no shoot number!!!
What is my no shoot number?!
I'm not at all comfortable with giving 3,25. I just raised dose today by 0.25. She's been laying in bed all day, literally not been out of bed since the AMPS shot. So considering night time drops, and she's more active during the night... I won't close an eye......

I don't have the guts to keep her on 3.25 without specific instruction from Deb, specially during night time.
So I go back up to 3U and then I'll decide on a no shoot number.

No insulin, she ate as usual.

I'll get up a do a test later tonight.
Now I need sleep. I have a pounding migraine and my pills aren't working as they're supposed to.
    What a day!
Thanks for all the help during the day!
And sorry for the long read, Deb!

I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts about today's numbers!

Green is good Sasha! :D:D:DVery good! It's what you want to see at the nadir, during the middle of the 12 hour cycle. Greens are how you get your cat OTJ. Greens are what give the pancreas time to rest and heal.

Welcome to the club! The "wary of greens", the "unsettled by greens", the "don't like these greens" club. The nail biting greens.:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting: I don't even have to bite my nails anymore, I'm breaking them off with the gardening I'm doing for myself and my friend.

You had a great group of people helping you, guiding you and you did just fine Sasha. Nervous, stressed about those good green numbers, but you made it through. That was an excellent, a stupendous job of getting Mauer to "surf" or "hold onto the wave" of greens. Surf away Mauer sweetie!

With that BG number of 70, Sasha earned an automatic 0.25U dose reduction. So, yes, back to the 3U dose in the AM for 8/8/20.

Our protocols suggest 150 mg/dL as the decision point pre-shot test. (Sometimes called the shoot/no shoot threshold). It's really to make you stop and think about your next step for the cycle, and if you should stall and not feed and retest, give a token dose, or skip the shot.

With time, that decision point pre-shot test BG threshold can and should be lowered.

p.s. Looks to me like the new bottle of Prozinc is working very well!:joyful:
No apologies needed Sasha. Sometimes, even I have to go take care of my friends garden, go grocery shopping, do laundry, empty the dishwasher and take a break to feed my own cat!

Hope your migraine gets better fast. Sinus headache slowing me down this AM, but it was better by later this afternoon.

p.p.s New thread in the morning please and thank you.
