    Hi,

With a hour to go before our PM shot and Catman only going up 6 points from 70 at +9 (5pm) I'm a little worried about shooting green for the first time at night, even low blue would make me itchy. Just asking now so I don't have to stall.

    Thoughts?

Tagging some people more knowledgeable than me. I have shot this low, but I was further into the game. Looks like Catman is a bouncy boy & there's a change he will bounce up tonight, but then again, he could surprise us and decide to surf or go lower. You can stall, not feed and see if his #s go higher on their own. Or do a reduced dose (Big Chicken Shot) My feeling is better some insulin than none, but, that's me. Here's a link to read about dealing with low preshots: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...y-to-shoot-handle-lower-pre-shot-numbers.147/

His PMPS was 72... I'll test at 8:20.

How much after normal PS is 8:20? Are you following TR or SLGS?

I believe we're doing TR and we test, feed and shoot at 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET US so 8:20 is just 20 minutes later. He is at my feet ready to kill me if I don't put this food down on the floor...

    PMPS + 20min = 75
Just gave him half a can of fancy feast classic pate beef which is 3% carbs up from his normal 1% cod sole, shrimp or salmon feast.
I'm comfortable giving him 2.25 units at this point.

Since this was my first stall I have 2 questions.
Do I wait in the AM to shoot until 8:20 or is 8 ok?
Also since I fed him at 8:20p should I wait until 10:20p to test?
    Thanks!

Make sure you get a +1 and/or two. From your SS, it looks like the carbs will bring him up. If he continues to drop, you may have a PJ party tonight. You'll have to monitor a bit more this evening...especially if he goes down after the food spike at +4.... :)

8 should be OK.....when stalling, if, like an hour....you can get back to your usual time by moving in increments of 15 mins per shot....30 mins per day. Good Luck!!!!

Ok, I wasn't really clear.....if the food brings him up at the +1/2...he may start to drop at +4....(your SS indicates significant drop between +3-+6 in some instances) you'll have to monitor closely....if below, say 70's, test every half hour to hour. Use food to keep him at a good number (above 50).... feed a small amount (a couple of teaspoons) of food (I do LC--3=6%) because Nova is sensitive to carbs. If he continues to go lower, feed again and test in 20-30mins---perfectly OK to feed a higher carb (MC--10-12%) or gravy type food to bring him back up and/or surf those greens! Keep your hypo kit at the ready. If...he decides to bounce....at +5 test...you can get some sleep.

I hope that makes sense...I'm working on getting better at my responses....which I rarely do. ;)

If anyone else is watching...please chime in!

I'd see what he does tonight. Normally you can make up the schedule 15 minutes a shot, or 1/2 hour once per day.
No, I'd get a +1 to see if you need to intervene early.

That was very helpful! He was 102 at +1. I'll do a +2, +3 and probably feed the higher carb FF at 11 if it's still low since I have to take sleep meds...
We have 1%, 3%, 6%, 12%, 15%, and 20% carb cans at the ready, won't go too high.

Wait until you see the numbers before feeding the higher carb. Catman has been know to bounce before.

Thank you for taking the time to know my crazy bouncer (but it was probably me being reactive...). He was only 110 at +2.

So his +3 was only 112... Slowest bounce ever if it's happening. Will do one one at midnight (+4) but I went ahead and gave him MC FF (12%) for his 11p meal. The petsafe 5 rotates at 2a and 5a and in those bowls I put ½ can of 6% and 3% respectively but I can change that at midnight as they are frozen if the 5a should also be 6%. I have color coded baggies in the freezer.

I'm wondering if the cod/sole/shrimp classic pate at 1% carbs is the part of this. He's been on only salmon (also 1%) carb for days and we just switched.

It's called surfing, and you both are doing great. The food will help to keep him level through the night. If you normally feed the 1-3%, the 6 and 3% will be good. I, personally, don't like to give too high a carb if I don't have to.....raises them way up for a drop later...at least with Nova, that's the case. Hope you get some sleep tonight. I'll check in when I get up in a few hours. :bighug:

Many thanks, Wendy for the great advice.

And this morning (7/30) he was at 369 for his AMPS. He probably didn't need the MC (12%) option at 11p but I DID and part of this is self-care, right? ;)

I hope CO is lovely this time of year. CT has been in an >85 heatwave for the last week...

Self care is especially important. Can't take care of our sweeties if we're a mess. :)

We've had a heatwave as well this last month, but going under 90 for the next few days or so (but....its a dry heat!)...it's monsoon season now (I know, it's hilarious being land locked, but it is real) so we get some rainy afternoons, with a high humidity level of 20%.o_O Hope you have a good day, and the Catman's bounce ends quickly!

When you said your cat was really sensitive to carbohydrates I was not sure what you meant. Could it be that after giving him a meal of a FF 12% carb last night at 8pm when he was in the '70s that his +9 this afternoon is 469? I still don't really get bounces and surfing and depots but I'm sure at some point this will all sink in...

It is probably and most likely a bounce. Catman's body is still reacting to the low numbers. It happens. Usually you can see if the food has had an influence on their BG reading. Nova raises, after food, LC 4-6%, to around 100-150+ BG over from am/pm ps...so I assume she is carb sensitive, and her pancreas does not kick in to keep her level, meaning...she rises after her food and lowers later in the cycle.

With the 12% you fed, it's perfectly OK.. We have to take care of ourselves in order to take care of our kitties. The main thing, i think, that you want to look for is the =1 OR 2 to see if she drops or raises. And then if he drops after onset.....look at your spreadsheet...when he starts to drop, and his nadir---his lowest during the cycle. Nova always raises. I yearn for the day she is lower after am/pm ps, no matter if she goes too low (i.e.: under 50) later in the day. Food keeps her steady and MC raises her too much......at times. Time will tell for you.....get as much data as you can without neglecting yourself......it can be hard because we love our kitties so much...you are on a good path. I wish... :bighug: You are still early in the game...you are doing great. It's really hard & frustrating, but you can do this! :bighug: I see good thing in your future. :)

l suck at replying...when you see his numbers start to drop, feed LC and see what happens, if they dont rise in an hour..you have a choice...feed LC or MC to bring him up.

Thanks and your replies are fine! I ask questions not because you're not clear but because this subject matter is so dense!

Given his relatively low amps we are preparing for another low day in the greens and this time I won't overreact with HC.

 (I can't see what these tiny emojis are doing on my phone but hopefully this is some sort of thumbs up one.)
