My pumpkin is at 6 units twice a day. Numbers are still too high. Just got 361 this morning!!! The dose has been increased one unit at a time usually after 48 hrs on previous dose. Any advise is very welcome and needed. Seems like we are moving too fast......but haven't liked the 500 numbers.

Hmmmm..... Yes, that's much faster than we usually recommend (we generally go up by 0.25U, and not every 48hrs).

6U is a lot of insulin, but some cats do need a lot. It's hard to tell with the pace of increases you have had. It's possible you skipped over the right dose, and the high numbers you are seeing are a result of "bouncing"-- hitting the occasional low number, and then zooming back up in a prolonged reaction (bounces can last up to three days). That said, you tested a fair amount all week last week, and other than maybe the night of the 29th, I don't see many hints that he's coming off his plateau ever.

It's also possible he just needs a lot of insulin. There are several "high dose" conditions that can cause this. We've seen cats on 10, 20, even higher doses of insulin. Again, it's too soon to really say yet if Pumpkin is one of those cats or if he's just doing a lot of bouncing, but something to keep in mind.

What was his starting dose in the very beginning?

His starting dose was 2 units twice a day. He wouldn't come out of the 600-500+ range for quite a while.
I was encouraged when I saw 361 this morning............it felt like a ray of sunshine and hope!!!

Yes, pink is better than red/black for sure!

Let's see what he does today. I don't see a dose for this morning on the spreadsheet. Did you shoot?

Just saw that you posted on the Lantus board, which is great, I was going to suggest that! That's probably the best place to get this sorted out and get Pumpkin feeling better, there are tons of Lantus users with a lot of experience over there.

That is a lot of fast change in insulin dosage. I am not sure about Lantus, but on Prozinc you have to wait a week and do a curve before changing dose. Someone used to Lantus will prolly answer you soon. And welcome btw :) Don't give up <3 I also have a ginger cat, they are the best :p
