Today is our 6th day on this diabetes roller coaster. I haven't had any trouble giving the shot and have had no wet fur. Today I did the shot as normal, or so I thought, but her fur was wet after. What do I do? Just wait til tonight for the next shot, right? Do I monitor her today? I feel bad. I don't know what in the world I did wrong.

Yep, just gotta wait till next time since you have no idea how much insulin did get in. It happens; you can still check because it's possible he did get most of it (or none at all) and if the numbers are climbing and indicating fur shot you can not bother with extra tests.

In your SS you'll want to write fur shot along with your dosage today.

Call it a fur shot and wait until tonight.
The reason why you never reshoot is that you don't know how much insulin actually went in. Shooting again is like double dosing.

Some people put a dollar in a jar for every fur shot.

I believe it has happened to everyone at one point or another. I did it. Chalk it up to a learning experience.;)

No one is immune to fur shots. I once saw my vet with a squirming/don't want to be here/I hate you so much cat and whoosh! The vaccine shot clear across the room.

She must have gotten something. She was 287 for AMPS and when I tested +2 she was 208. It was actually a little past +2, but forgot at the right time and decided to go ahead and test before I have to leave, just to see where she's at.

Trying hard not to be condescending.
No matter what you think never reshoot after a fur shot. It's happened here before, just once, with near disastrous results. Missing a shot is not the end of the world.

I think the going rate is $5....after all, 2020 is half over...if you want to buy kitty something special for Christmas out of the furshot jar money, it's getting late in the year....LOL

I didn't reshoot? Do you think I did?
I posted because I was pretty sure that you DON'T reshoot in that case, but I wanted to make sure. You know, the 6 day in part.... I know it's not the end of the world. I just need some confirmation that what I thought was right.

Sorry for that, that's why I included "Trying hard not to be condescending." Assuming someone made a blatant mistake is an even bigger mistake. With very few exceptions no one here is wiser than anyone else and certainly not me. Can we start again?

Sissy has the cutest most adorable girly face!!!

just want to add my tip for never doing a fur shot. Use light. Either a lamp aimed at the spot or what I do, which is hold a small flashlight in my mouth. This helps me actually see the spot and the needle going in and out. Have never had a fur shot since! Being able to see the needle go in and out makes all the difference :)

Yeap, anytime. I do the same thing when I’m pricking her ear with the lancet for testing btw. Even if she’s outside under the sun, I still do it. Kinda like taking a pic outdoors with the flash on :cat:
