    @Critter Mom @tiffmaxee

    Good morning everyone,

This morning Blaze is the lowest he has ever been at a AMPS.

As soon as I saw that number my gut told me to feed but not shoot. I really feel his pancreas is starting to work a bit...fingers crossed. I am home all day today and can monitor though.

My thought is when I skipped yesterday and the day before, he stayed pretty flat, flatter than when I gave him the drop at PM time yesterday...

Should I SKIP again this cycle?

How's this for a speedy response! Your ESP must have been working.

Morning, Paola! Will look at SS and BRB...

    Beautiful blue AMPS!

Not sure why the pause on feeding, but not shooting...guess I missed something on this one.

    Have a great day!

Was just about to ask. :)

How are you fixed for monitoring today? Blaze kept you busy last night. How tired are you?

    Awww! (((Blaze)))

From the early morning cuddles am I correct in deducing that Blaze's behaviour was normal last night?

    Next question:

    * Do you have Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers foods and any high carb treats in the house? (I've a feeling I asked you this recently but I can't remember the answer. I know you've got test strips and meter batteries!)

    Considerations:

    * Last night on drop dose was safe cycle. Good numbers.
    * Blaze's behaviour last night and this AM normal.
    * Would be better for Blaze to spend a bit more time in safe, lower part of reference range.
    * You're well positioned to monitor.
    * Well-stocked with testing and hypo kit supplies.
    * Assistance available at FDMB.
    * Not clearing a bounce.
    * Difference between PMPS and PM nadir last night was less than 1mmol (<18mg/dL).

I think you should be OK today. If it was my cat I would give the drop dose.

What do you think, Paola? You hold the syringe. Your call.

    Finest.

Sorry for delaying you but I wanted to think things through properly. Safety first.

You need to check at +1. If Blaze were to get quite hungry of a sudden, check sooner (unlikely, but something to be aware of as a precaution).

You can move the time of the dose back by 15 minutes on every cycle, or by 30 minutes on every second cycle.

Assuming it is safe to give insulin again tonight, you can do your PMPS 15 minutes early and then you'll be pretty much back on schedule.

Check back with you at +1. Don't go back to sleep (or make sure BF stays up just in case you might accidentally doze off).

    Hi Paola,

Just saw the 5.8 on the SS.

    Questions:

    * How much did Blaze eat this morning, and what carb %?

    * How long is it (HH:MM) since he finished eating his brekkie?

He ate over 1/4 of a small FF can. Carb % is 4%.
Breakkie: Exctely 2 hours. He ate at 06:50 am.

As an extra precaution, I'd suggest testing in 30 minutes (+1.5). It's been a while since he's eaten, and his SS data shows he typically has early onset.

    Is that OK with you?

    Yep.

Looks like he might be starting to drop a little with dose onset now (making a bit of an allowance for meter reading variance here).

The reason I asked about when Blaze last ate and to get the additional test was that there was no strong evidence of a food rise at +1 (again, taking meter variance into consideration).

Since it had been two hours since he ate I thought it prudent to do the extra +1.5 test because this is the first time you've given insulin in this BG range and Blaze typically has quite an early dose onset: I wanted you to get 'ahead of the curve'. (Sorry 'bout the pun. )

    See you at +2. :bighug:

Oops! Forgot to suggest you grab a test at +2.5.

I'm trying to help you see where Blaze is going early in the cycle when he doesn't eat in the couple of hours after the dose was administered, but I don't want to make any assumptions about where his numbers might go, and I want you to be ready to steer the curve if required. For that reason I'd prefer you checked before +3.

    Elise, you're a star! :bighug:

Are you happy with the plan outlined above? I was thinking of the following (subject to change at a moment's notice depending on BG readings and Blaze wanting to be fed at any time):

+2.5 - Check BG. If numbers safe, don't feed.
    +3.0 - Check BG. Feed a little.
+3.5 - Check BG for any drop after the food. Feed if required.
    +4.0 - Ditto.
    +4.5 - Ditto.
+5.0 - Check BG. Feed. (Most typical time for nadir, BTW.)

BG tests / feeds later in cycle as readings and Blaze's appetite dictates.

If you can think of a better plan, I'm all ears.

    Suggestion for tonight:

Test at +11 and then again at PMPS. It might show whether Blaze's BG is rising or falling prior to making tonight's dosing decision.

Paola, I’m not going to be around as much tonight and neither will Kel or Mogs. I will be around at shot time but can’t guarantee when after your +1. And in the morning your shot time is 4:00 a.m. here so I can’t be here. So I’m not sure who will be available to help. Maybe Susanne if you need extra eyes tonight and we aren’t around at the time you need help. . @JaxBenji Will you be around tonight? Dosing suggestions will be already decided to if she shoots it would just be guiding food and tests.

Eastern time, right? 7:30ish PMPS? I should be around until at least 11PM Eastern...so till +4ish. If I need to stay on longer, I will try - I didn't know what Jax was doing last night so I didn't sleep well (spoiler, he did nothing but hang out in the 60s longer than usual lol).

Not sure...hd has been eating the same flavour of FF since I changed the food 3 weeks ago...maybe the tuna? I have occasionally sprinkled some water on his food when he wasn't eating or when i really need him to eat but not often

I guess anything is possible. Did he eat grass or just the nip?

He had a couple of leaves of the nip, but he has had it many times before and it never upsets him. He hardly ate any grass today, he was chasing crickets. When he eats it he just throws it up, never diarrhea

I am going to try to have a nap, I am exhausted. Blaze was being aggressive to Ash (usually Ash is the instigator) so I tested to see if he was low or something, but he is blue actually at +9. Gonna lay down for a bit and I hope I can have a short nap. I suffer from anxiety and everything that is happening is taking a toll on me. I have 1 little pouch of the feline flora powder to sprinkle on the food when they have upset stomachs, I am gonna give it to him tonight and I hope he eats the food with that in it.

Sorry to hear about Blaze's tummy upset, Paola. (((Blaze)))

Did you notice anything else odd or a bit different in him today (good things or not-so-good things - both can be helpful), even if it's something as simple as his eating more than usual. For example, did he eat much more than usual for brekkie today?

I worry about both of you tonight. I think you need to get sleep and gear up for the week. If he has an upset tummy that will be near impossible.

The better numbers might be boosting his appetite.

I would be very much inclined to agree.

I also think, Paola, that you really need a good night's rest. It has been quite an intense 24 hours.

    What say you, Paola?

This has echoes of Blaze's two fretty nights (plus none of us tend to be a joy to have around when we've got an upset tum).

He's on the tiniest of doses. He's come so far. In my humble opinion it will be best for both of you to skip tonight and unless sky high which I bet my condo on he won't be, I would not shoot in the morning either. Even if sky high I wouldn't shoot in the morning and go to work because it could be a bounce. Maybe all the food was too much and if he hadn't eaten as much he would have dropped lower. Too many variables for me.
