101. Missed green by 2 points. Feeding smaller breakfast than usual so I can feed 4 equal meals throughout the day. We'll be back at +3.
Her last insulin shot was Sunday morning. Does that mean the clock started running her OTJ trial on Sunday evening?
Yes, it certainly does! Go Lola Go! Stay low Lola, stay low! Here are Deb's cheering pics, for day 5 and day 6. I'm late to the happenings around here. Yeah Lola!!!!!!
PMBG +3.5 = 92 I'd have been happier if she'd stayed in the green at PMBG, but at least she's found her way back by bedtime.
10/24: AMBG 84. I cannot believe the change in Lola in just 2 weeks. Her coat is silky, her demeanor is playful, and her appetite is great.
I'd be dancing, too, except that I would disturb Lola's slumber. (She has any number of places to sleep - big, soft bed, snugly kitty bed, her perch in the cat tree - but she chooses to sleep in the hard, cold, porcelain sink. Cats!)
She's being a CAT!!!! Cooling off in the sink. A cat on day 7 if her OTJ trial. Don't scrap the trial yet. But do try to get that test in the +3 to +4 hour timeframe, as that tells you if the pancreas is working if the BG number is lower. Remember meter variance too. So the number you got for PMBG of 110 could be 15% lower. 110 - 15% = 93. I'm still rooting for you and Lola.
I have a theory about her higher PM numbers these last two days: Before starting on the trial Lo had been allowed to graze all day, and I made sure that she ate something an hour before the start of her 2-hour PS fast (roughly +9 both in the morning and the afternoon). After starting the trial I've tried to space out her meals more evenly, so roughly every 6 hours. I don't remember what time her pre-fast snack was yesterday afternoon, but I know she didn't have a pre-fast snack this afternoon. (She always has that snack in the morning because she demands it first thing when I get up.) I'm going to make sure she gets a snack at +9 tomorrow afternoon. If my hunch is correct, then her PMBG number will be back in the green tomorrow.
Here's hoping your hunch is true. Even some kitties that are on really small doses of insulin (0.1U or a drop or two), and not quite ready for an OTJ trial, we suggest that +9 feeding to even out the BG levels.
82 at AMBG I'm relieved to hear this. I was worried that I might be 'gaming the system' for her OTJ trial by manipulating her feeding schedule.
Oh yes! I like that saying! Lola is doing really well with that +9 snack. "Day nine and all is fine."
No more hairball means there is more room for food! At least, that's the way I look at it. Day 10 funny for you. Hope I got this correct for the right state.
Day 11 on OTJ trial! Here goes: Just don't let Lola get into the bag, as it would spike her BG levels.
10/29 AMBG 80. Yesterday I started augmenting her post-fast Friskies pate meals with ~1 tbsp of Dr. Elsey's chicken dry food - well hydrated (read soggy) because I think she needs to gain a little weight. She's absolutely bugnuts for the Dr. Elsey's kibble and the resulting soaking broth, which I stir into the pate. Also, I've been a little worried that she's still drinking a lot of water given that she's been on a canned food only diet, so I tried to measure the amount of water she consumed yesterday. As best as I can determine using my Pyrex measuring cup, she consumed just shy of 8 oz of water yesterday. Is that worrisome?
A cat that is drinking more water than expected, can be because of several reasons, diabetes being only one of them. I think it's something to contact your vet about. My cat has early kidney disease, and between what I add to her food and what she drinks from her water dish, she drinks about 3 to 3.5 cups of water each 24 hour period. (8 oz times 3 = 24 ounces; 8 oz times 3.5 = 28 ounces) I'm forever scooping the litter box with all the subsequent peeing she does. Hyperthyroidism can also cause increased water consumption. There are probably other reasons for more water being drunk by your cat. Such as if it's really hot where you live.
Thanks. That confirms what I was thinking. (In all other respect, she looks great!) Fortunately, my vet is finally back from medical leave next week. I'll bet! We have 5 cats -- I wait for litter to go on sale and buy it 240 lbs at a time. My poor overloaded little sedan wallows down the street.....
I forgot Lola's cheering picture, for day 12 of her OTJ trial! Here it is: I've been ordering the Frisco litter from Chewy.com. Less expensive than the Dr. Elsey's and it gets delivered right to my doorstep. Couldn't take the dust levels from the Tidy Cat litter anymore and stopped using it several years ago. The Frisco litter and the Dr. Elsey's make me cough less, but there is still dust as there will be with any clay litter. I should just wear a mask when I scoop! My civie Dancer pees enough for 5 cats! I mix the litter with Cedarific (like sawdust but made of pine and ceder), so it doesn't stick like cement to the litter box. And I use spray cooking oil several times a week after cleaning up the "stickier" favorite spots with some water and drying with a paper towel, for the litter box sides. Also use the spray cooking oil on my metal litter box scoop, to cut down on the sticking. I know that some people like to use wood pellets, like you would use to burn in a pellet stove, in the litter box. Really inexpensive at places like Tractor Supply. Never tried them myself.
That's in my neck of the woods! Hmmmm. That and the cedar chips sounds interesting. They would smell good and cut down on the dust cloud. I'm going to have to give that some thought.
Lola! Such a good job you are doing for your OTJ trial! Day 13, WOW! p.s. That MN sign being in your neck of the woods was pure chance.
When I lived in SD, us 12 ran right through my 'neck of the woods" too! I used to live in Minnesota and vacation there quite a bit! Where do you live? Congrats LOLA!!! I wish my Tucker can get there!!
We're in Minnetonka, a western suburb of Minneapolis. Lola's AMBG was 110 this morning. I don't think it scuppers her remission, but it does earn her a few extra ear pricks this morning. It amazes me to think that if I hadn't found FDMB (assuming she survived the crisis that brought me here in the first place 3 weeks ago), I'd still be shooting 1u blindly until she became sick.
